Topic: [SLVD] ATI Control Panel ATICCC.ins not installing

Hello Everyone,

I have a small issue with the ATI Control Panel not installing in my universal image.  I have tried on several different Dells with different ATI cards.
I am following the instructions posted in the Universal Image guide but it will not install.  Other than that it seems fine.  The guide tells me to place in the root of C: two files, one called ATICCC.ins, and the other called ATICCP.ins.  The DPsfnshr.exe file it suppose to pick up those files if it detects a Radeon card but seems to miss it.  Wondering if there is something I am missing.  Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks.

*Edited by mr_smartepants
I discovered that the ATICCC install bug was caused by an undocumented dependency on .NET 2.0 AND VC++ redistributable!  Installing both .NET/VC++ will solve the bug on ATI-based systems. smile

You need to have one or the other, but not both.
Can you post your DPsFnshr.log please?  It's big, so split it into two posts.

Hi,

I tried it again with ATICCC.ins on the root of C: and it still did not install the ATI Control Center.  Below is part of the DPsFnshr file:

Re: [SLVD] ATI Control Panel ATICCC.ins not installing

Is there a way to integrate .NET into the Windows XP CD/DVD ?

Re: [SLVD] ATI Control Panel ATICCC.ins not installing

RVM Integrator is good for updates
http://integrator.siginetsoftware.com/i … p?download

and some .Net installers here
http://www.doitrightconsulting.net/foru … &t=132
- although not recommended for servicepack setup i have used it with success.
- I integrate .net 2 So I can run WPI wink  I believe that is also sufficient for the ATI control panel wink
check out MSFN.org for more options

Re: [SLVD] ATI Control Panel ATICCC.ins not installing

Hi,

the latest .net is installed along with all microsoft updates.  I can install the CCC from the dell driver folder later but would rather have it do it after imaging.

Re: [SLVD] ATI Control Panel ATICCC.ins not installing

You need to make sure that the .net installer runs during the WinPE stage of setup... (between the first and second reboots)
that way the machine will reboot before the .net dependent app will be run.

there are three stages of setup: TextMode (Reboot), WinPE (Reboot), and finally GUI.

it may be possable to run the .net installer and then the CCC during GUI mode, but there is a higher chance of success if you install .net during the WinPE stage, and then call the DriverPacks Finisher during the GUI stage. (RunOnceEX, GUIRunOnce or similar)

Re: [SLVD] ATI Control Panel ATICCC.ins not installing

Was any problem ever determined here, because I think I'm having the same issue?  I have a Dell Latitute D600 (yes, it's old).

PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_4C66&SUBSYS_011D1028&REV_02\4&1BFA44D4&0&0008: ATI MOBILITY RADEON 9000

The driver successfully installs, and the ATI CCC seems to install, but it doesn't work.  To clarify, if I right-click on the desktop, it is a menu option.  It's also in my start menu programs group, but no matter what I choose in that folder, nothing happens.  The CCC never opens.

At first I though it was a .NET issue, so I've spent a bunch of time and I think I've eliminated that.  I did the following:

Clean XP SP3 CD.
RVM with only user_hidden's update pack.
RogueSpear's Runtimes V3.5.1 for .NET 2.0 installed during SVCPACK
DriverPacks with all the main packs and without any 3rd party packs.

This is about the simplest scenario I can come up with: .NET installed in SVCPACK so a nice reboot before the DP Finisher runs.

I put my DP log,Finisher,HWids in a zip file here if that helps.

Any ideas?  Thanks!

Re: [SLVD] ATI Control Panel ATICCC.ins not installing

Looks like you did everything right. neutral

The Radeon 9000 is an old card.  It's possible the new CCC isn't compatible with the older drivers anymore.
So does the ATI icon appear in the task bar after boot?
Do you get any errors when trying to open CCC?

Re: [SLVD] ATI Control Panel ATICCC.ins not installing

No ATI icon in the system tray.

I don't get any visible errors when I try to open CCC and don't see any errors in the event log.

Is there any repository of older CCC versions out there somewhere that I can use to attempt regressing CCC?

Other suggestions?  I feel like I last imaged this machine between 6 to 12 months ago and it worked fine.

Re: [SLVD] ATI Control Panel ATICCC.ins not installing

Tried 9.06, no good.  I guess I'd been using something earlier then that in the past.  Is there an older version somewhere?  Do you hack CCC to work with different drivers?  (Meaning, could I grab the old driver package from Dell's website, and just install the CCC from that, keeping the newer driver that's in the current driverpacks?)

Thanks for your help!!

Most all of our DriverPacks are available on the home page since the move to the new drupal based website... Click the "drivers" tab and select "Browse all releases" You may select any release you like... If you find one is missing let me know and i will see that it is made available big_smile.

Re: [SLVD] ATI Control Panel ATICCC.ins not installing

The standard CCC installer .msi files are modified to recognize the mobility (and any other) ATI drivers as valid.
I haven't had any problems using this method on my two ATI notebooks before.
I downloaded the new 9.9 catalyst and I'm now using the new Mobility Modder from DriverHeaven to see if that may fix your issue.

Stand by for a new beta...

Re: [SLVD] ATI Control Panel ATICCC.ins not installing

Thanks OverFlow and mr_smartepants!

I have some new testing results to report.  I found an older CD with A-8.10.2,B-8.10,C-8.10.1.  I tried this and now I get the ATI icon in the system tray.  I also get all of the ATI-specific tabs added to the advanced display settings.  Unfortunately, CCC is installed, but behaves just like before--it does nothing.

So I guess my success months ago was with something older.  I'll download something older and try that.

Thanks again.

I'm just looking to see if I can work back to a release that doesn't have my problem, so I can figure out where the issue occurred.  If I'm not crazy (which is possible smile ) I had CCC working on this Dell D600 in the past via driverpacks...I just can't seem to remember which packs worked.

mr_smartepants seems to be trying something for me, so I'm happy to wait and try that before turning back the wheel of time smile.

Re: [SLVD] ATI Control Panel ATICCC.ins not installing

Thanks!  I won't be able to test it again until next week, so please don't misinterpret my temporary silence.  I definitely will try them and report back. Your help is very much appreciated.

Re: [SLVD] ATI Control Panel ATICCC.ins not installing

Thanks again for all the help. I finally was able to run the test today and success!  Using the 804 packs (A+B+C) I successfully have the CCC on my D600/Radeon 9000.

Now how to solve this using a current driver pack is the question.  Do you think I could install the 9.06 packs, and then simply install this older CCC after the fact?  What do the experts recommend?

Again, many thanks!!

Re: [SLVD] ATI Control Panel ATICCC.ins not installing

I'm still working on this!  I have new DriverPacks in work but I haven't yet had time to test them myself due to real-life issues.
Once I finish them, you'll be asked to test them.

While it's possible to use an older CCC with newer drivers, you may not be successful.  ATI has changed their detection method.
