Topic: BSOD on installing new Nvidia drivers

when updating to nvidias 162.18 i got a BSOD after reboot, i tryed the normal installer and extracting the drivers and using the devicemaniger to update the grafic card - same thing.

the windows i installed was XP sp2 with all the driver packs intergrated, graphic A 7.06.

the grafic card in my machine is a GF8800GTS, is this a know issue and is there a way to solve it with out reinstalling windows?

Try the Graphics_A 7.08test1 DP here:

Re: BSOD on installing new Nvidia drivers

would that not requre me to re install windows and make a new install disk?
I was able to revert to the 7.06 drivers buy using the las good known configurations from the winxp boot up menu and I would like to avoide re installing windows every time I have to update my drivers.
(updating my sound card and nvidia chip set worked fine)
I will gladly test the new pack on a temp disk once I get this issue solved.

Yes, that's the whole point of the DriverPacks.

If you currently have a running config that you want to preserve ("never change a running system!"), I advise you to create an image of the HDD using one of the numerous programmes for the task (Norton Ghost or Acronis TrueImage being two good ones of them) that you store away on a DVD or a HDD not adjected to this system, then wipe, reinstall with the newly slipstreamed XPCD containing the newer drivers and see how that works out.

If it doesn't the image you created is quickly restored and so is your old setup.

Re: BSOD on installing new Nvidia drivers

Either what Helmi said, or just use a spare HDD (I keep several around for just such an occasion.)

Re: BSOD on installing new Nvidia drivers

yeah that is how I plan on testing the latest driver pack smile
plus I don't think that I want to throw some 4+ dvd's on testing a driver
I have a lot of work related stuff set up on my current installed system so I rely want to solve the issue rather then plan on how to start over.
