Topic: [SOLVED] Windows 2000 Setup Stalls (with Graphics DriverPack A or B)

Whenever I use Graphics DriverPack A&B (not sure which is the problem), setup freezes right after the monitor switches to 800x600 and a larger color-depth (during the "Installing Devices" part).  Any ideas?

Does that happen no matter what kind of video adapter or other hardware is in the computer?  Knowing what's in there might point to a culprit.

Re: [SOLVED] Windows 2000 Setup Stalls (with Graphics DriverPack A or B)

The graphics card is a 3d Prophet II MX Dual Display w/ 32mb of RAM.  I wouldn't normally try to make a problem, but I run a non-profit that refurbishes computers, and this slipstream needs to work with the shittyest computers out there (the ones that get donated).

I have to leave now, but if you need to know anything else about it, please post it here and I will try to find it out.

P.S. It is not a name-brand computer.  My brother custom built it.

Please post the HWID of that GPU (check my sig for a tool).

Sorry for the extremely late reply!

Did you generate this hwids.txt on a system that has been installed using the DriverPacks?

Yes, it was generated on the system that had the problem.

Re: [SOLVED] Windows 2000 Setup Stalls (with Graphics DriverPack A or B)

Well, the cause is simple. The driver for your device was not found and therefore not installed. Do you know by heart which nVidia GPU it is? I could look it up, but that takes again some time... It must be an nVidia GPU though. My guess is that you will have to include DriverPack Graphics C for your system!

OK, it doesn't matter very much.  I have used the GraphicsPack A&B for almost 100 different computers so far, and have not had the problem again.  It is not a very big deal anymore because I trashed the computer in question anyway.

Thanks for the support anyway.

That's great smile More than a 100 computers, and all flawlessly, I may hope? smile

And... THAT's the spirit... if the DriverPacks can't install it, then it must be crap, so let's just trash it big_smile

Superb smile

But I guess that was not exactly the case tongue

Re: [SOLVED] Windows 2000 Setup Stalls (with Graphics DriverPack A or B)

For some reason, it doesn't work on IBMs (gives a portclys.sys error), but thats OK, because all of the IBM drivers are included on the W2k CD.  And I would ask for support, but I don't want to have to re-burn 50 CDs wink

I am refurbishing director of a non-profit, so the DriverPacks are a god-send for all of the old computers we get (esp. the network drivers, those were a royal pain in the ass, esp. for Compaq (or as I call them, CrapPaqs) )

Thanks for you great product,
Brian

All you have to do is report it in the DriverPack Sound forum. Also mention the model name, because these OEMs tend to have their own driver series. I'll add it to the next update of DriverPacks-b! wink
