Two years ago I downloaded the Driver Packs tutorial that stated it did not support 64-bit drivers - what changed and how would it work? Is there a new tutorial somewhere?

How to I download anything? I went to Simple CDN and and found no link to download - just comments about how great they are.

When "PC Magazine" and Computer Shopper" came as printed magazines they periodically had instructions on "How To Build Your Own" - I'll bet a search of their web sites would result in a listing of those articles. Google too.

The only pre-built system I bought was a Tandy 1000TL2 back in 1986 - since then it's been buy all the parts and build my own. I have no idea as to the glue you asking about. Further explanation is required.

Over at the MSFN forum there was a posting about AMD AHCI drivers - the file they posted is: 32bit ATI SB7xx textmode driver 9-8 WHQL.rar - hope this info helps.

The actual drivers are part of the Intel Matrix Storage Manager; latest is: Intel Matrix Storage Manager v8.90.1023

The Matrix manager is downloaded and the program is run with the -a to extract the files. Then you'll find two subdirectoreis: \Driver and \Driver64 with the appropriate drivers.

Was able to finally boot into XP Pro after I selected AHCI in the BIOS. I used the .REG file I mentioned above to see if it would work and, so far so good. I still don't have an indication of being able to boot from the CD/DVD drive - will have to check on that.

The HWIDS listing follows:

I'm still working the problem here. Was able to get XP Pro x64 to boot when AHCI was selected in the BIOS but not XP Pro or Win7 32- or 64-bit. Word on the MSFN forum is AHCI must be selected in the BIOS during the install of Win7 to get the drivers loaded. Have not checked this as I have SATA CD/DVD drives connected and if I switch the BIOS to AHCI they no longer appear as boot devices; that's a different problem I'll have to pursue.

I do not have RAID selected in the BIOS and I do not plan on trying that option because of the re-formatting issue.

Ran HWIDS from each XP Pro in IDE mode but the RAID Device was/is the same for both. Will have to try it from within XP Pro x64 next time I boot it using AHCI.

When I was troubleshooting to try to determine any connection between why one system would boot and not the other and comparing  the two .REG files I found; one posted on MSFN and the other at PC Perspectives forum, I did notice there were two driver listings in the registry of my XP Pro x64 system and minor differences between the .REG files.

I am also considering making a new .REG file that is a combination of the two .REG files I've been using and the listings/entries I did find in the registry themselves. My experience tells me that importing this information into the registry will not cause either XP Pro or XP Pro x64 to not boot if in IDE mode and to either give my a BSOD as I had previously when I switched to AHCI or to actually boot. Again, experience dictates that registry listings will be ignored if the item listed is not to be found and that listing just becomes redundant.

Obviously I'll create a restore point as a safety measure.

Monday Night Football kickoff and dinner time is fast approaching here in California so it will probably be tomorrow before I have any more information or answers.

Right now I'm using the information I found on MSFN and other places about installing AHCI support in XP - it is supposedly built-in for Vista and Win7 - so a report of any success and/or failures will probably be a day or two or more. Last night was a failure for XP Pro, XP Pro x64 and Win7 32-bit so I switched the BIOS back from AHCI to IDE and reviewed all instructions I had.

I looked around a bit and found no previous comments on AHCI, so here goes.

I have an AHCI capable motherboard. I've done a bit of reading on AHCI and I followed the instructions I found at MSFN on using nLite to integrate the drivers into an XP source. When nLite was finished there was a new folder: \i386\NLDRV\001 and in this folder the compressed AHCI files.

Now my issue is this: I would use the RyanVM integrator to update the above mentioned source with the latest update pack, addons, and DriverPacks, create an ISO, and burn a CD. So, knowing DriverPacks must be the last item called by the RyanVMi would it not object to or erase/delete the \NLDRV\001 folder created for the AHCI drivers?

Thanks for any help and if this is covered somewhere please point me in that direction.

I do know that when I went to the Creative web site and found this item as an update it installed to my D:\Program Files\Creative directory - so I would say C:\Program Files is not the required or default folder now.

I have an ATI/AMD video card and a Creative sound card; motherboard has built in RealTek audio.

ATI posts drivers as Vista and Win7 in their name.

Creative does not, or, at least, has not so far; so I would be careful.

RealTek has separate drivers for Win7 though 32 bit and 64 bit are together in the same download.

Will continue checking out the RCs till then.

quote from wikipedia "IDE emulation in the BIOS settings if it's available (usually labelled COMPATIBILITY or ACPI)." acpi ?i have acpi but that stands for power management

I just checked my motherboard manual (ABIT IX48 GT3) and under Integrated Peripherals > OnChip SATA Device > OnChip SATA Controller (Enabled) > -SATA Mode: there are three options - IDE, RAID, AHCI

So, I would say that if there is no mention of anything similar for your motherboard then you do not have that capability.

The sun was shining this morning in Southern California for the 120th Rose Parade.

Happy new Year to all those in the cold.

OK - separate drivers are acceptable.

Can I then assume that Sound_A will be updated with the ATI HDMI drivers if/when the Catalyst Control Center and/or the ATI video drivers are themselves updated? I ask because the last time I looked at the Sound_A drivers, unless I missed the listing somewhere, did not include the latest from Realtek or AMD/ATI.

Thanks for all the work keeping the driver packs a geat product.

Got a new motherboard and two each Radeon HD4870 video cards connected in CrossFireX.

The motherboard manual shows a Front Panel Audio Connection Header and an S/PDIF Output Connection Header.

In Device Manager > Sound, video and game controllers > there are two listings for ATI Function Driver for High Definition Audio - ATI AA01 and one listing for Realtek High Definition Audio.

Using this information I downloaded updated Realtek drivers and they installed with no problem.

When I went to the AMD/ATI site and checked for updated video drivers along with an updated Catalyst Control Center I noticed a posting for updated HDMI Audio drivers; which I downloaded and which installed successfully.

So, here's my question: when Driver Packs are updated for a new Catalyst Control Center does this also include the HDMI Audio drivers? I saw no listing in sound drivers for ATI HDMI Audio drivers so I'm assuming this may be a new set of drivers that should be included and updated; yes/no?

If these HDMI Audio drivers were included somewhere then please tell me where and forget my comments above.

13.3 is available at Station-Drivers - I'm downloading it right now: 2040 hours Wednesday in California

Went through just now - whatever the glitch was it was fixed.

I went to the PayPal site and logged in just fine using the same password as the one I attempted to use yesterday from this forum. Back to you.
