Is this disc a hologrammed genuine MS disc?
If so, the drivers.CAB should be in its ususal place.

Were there any "file cannot be read" errors during installation?
Even if possible, you should not continue but abort the installation and seek the source of error.
On an original, unscratched disc, this can only mean either ODD failure (dirty lense) or RAM issues (check timings in BIOS and/or scan for defective bits).

Oh and that friend us yours didn't happen to also pass you a license with that copy, now did he, hum?

Thanks for understanding what a true "clean" source means (most users fail at this, unfortunately).

We couldn't care less whether it was warez or not (but MS does!) as long as you do not propagate it on the forum, HOWEVER, such "modded" sources are always a big source of errors of all and the most unusual types and will cause unnecessary support issues (stuff, we can't explain because it has never happened to us before etc.) which binds our time and resources and may even prevent legit users from getting legitimate help.

Another issue is the security aspect.
If you are using an OS that you got from dubious sources (and, yes, I consider your friend as such even though or because I do not know him) you no longer have to worry about virus and malware scanners because it most likely already has been compromised at its core.
If folks are "giving away" warez for free, there most be some revenue in for them - as is with any illegal activities.
A nice hidden rootkit with a trojan can be very valuable to certain groups or individuals.


That all is reason enough for us not to support it - or rather not to bother about it at all.
Saves us a lot of nerves and keeps the forum from getting swarmed with warez requests.

Very nice guide, I guess it's sticky time (has been a while wink)!

Anyhow, from what I know, you don't have to rename \Documents and Settings.
If you reinstall using even the same username, the new user dir will be named according to this scheme:
Username.Computername (as opposed to just Username).
No guaranties though as I haven't tried this myself.
Plus, renaming is definately the savest option (right after backup, hehe), just wanted to mention it (some folks may have been wonderig, dunno).

It will "hold onto them" if you enable the KTD feature.

However, you could as well create an SAD and have them installed with very few clicks from a DVD, network  or other source.
The advantage of SAD is that you can easily update the drivers with the latest packs so you will always be up to date whereas the KTD drivers will be from when you installed the system - your choice.

When you are using the DriverPacks, no one is going to ask for the make because they are universal, supporting all manufacturers!
That's the great thing about them, no more worries about what's actually inside the case wink

You just grab the DriverPacks and in 99% of all cases it will work, simply amazing big_smile

I'm also very positive they are included.
The listing on the page you referred to is not 100% accurate, complete or current...

I'm willing to be this was rather due to the MS hotfix KB888111 than the installation of the HDMI driver (of which the setup routine may have taken over the job of installing the hotfix).

Thankfully, it was included in SP3, as you've correctly pointed out.


Missing CAT files should not break driver function, juts WHQL signing (which isn't too much of a loss, actually).

As for hotkeys, you can use whatever you like in your translation (doesn't have to be identical with English and sometimes even would be impossible to achieve).
Just make sure that there's no overlapping on the same page.

That said, I need to check on my translation for this as I just used the "suggestion" from the English file...

Seeing as the topic has already been marked as SOLVD, not too big a loss, I guess (otherwise I'd have to play Mod and clean this up wink).

Oh, and no one's blaming you for not having put it up there, you may not know our rules too well already.
We use these "tags" to be able to easily and quickly differentiate between posts.

1) Old Radeons (you didn't say which one but I think the oldest AIW is X800?) are most likely covered by the DriverPack Graphics C, as they are already legacy, seeing as the Catalyst drivers are only being updated for cards of the Xyyy series an newer.

2) SAD = Stand Alon Drivers (Disc)
SoFI = Software First Installer (IIRC...)

The reason for the rename lay within the connotation of SAD (as in unhappy).
Or maybe it's too close to MAD, I dunno.

Anyway, it does just what the arctile describes on pg. #2, just within BASE, so no manual steps involved.
It's more newbie-friendly that way and causes less support issues for us (hopefully).

Yeah, just that they totally forgot to mention the BASE and it's nice and neat features that can make all of these manual steps as described in the article with a mere click on a button wink

The authors should read the tuts themselves first so they can give their reader a better advice, methinks smile
