Thanks

There's no need to since you can simply exclude the file from being scanned.
This setting is saved so even on any consecutive slipstream processes it will never bother you again!

hi

I tried the two driver collection free tools, and noticed they do not include the CAT files in their backups.

In remove .CATs anyway because on my UWXPCD there are so many of them it gives me an error on installation.
Nlite has an option to both disable .CATs as well as truning off notification of unsigned drivers.

Can't say I had any problems so far, but then again I do not know how this setting affects the DriverPacks.
On my custom-made packs, the .CATs are still included since I do not remove anything.
Had some bad experience with missing .EXE files and stuff so I leave it all included.
Doesn't make that much of a different file size-wise anyway...

So, well, I had to do another DP because one of my comps started to give my sh*t sort of and I needed to include some drivers that aren't covered with the official DriverPacks yet...

Anyway, I waited until 10pm before I even turned the PC on so it was a small hours job but worked out fair enough.

Not only is it too hot during the day, I'd also rather spend my time outside than in the house wink

He's Belgian last time I checked big_smile

Anyway, yes, I'm aware of the fact the site is in German, but as I initially said, you can either translate it via Google (it does not contain any literary texts, just a simplel listing) or I will volunteer to translate any needed passages.

I would much prever an English driver news page for the sake of internationality of this project; unfortunately I do not any such a page sad

I agree that a script would be a good solution.
Maybe it could work somewhat like the wiki.
Only with fixed values so that the devices cannot be altered, however users can change the driver versions and links to the files.

New version online!

http://www.heise.de/newsticker/meldung/75798

Since this is weekly updated, I will (unless I forget to) post in here each week.
The problem is, this is like regular news on their page so there isn't an index just for the driver update news unfortunately...

@Bâshrat the Sneaky: Would it be possible to sticky this?
If anyone else knows similar news pages, they are most welcome to post them in here, so we have everything at a glance.

Better than having to manually scout fro updates and post lots of [REQ] threads, IMO smile

@ Helmi: Have you tried your driverpack pack yet?, Howd it go? and How big was it?

You make your DriverPacks manually right?

Funny you ask because I just finished it yesterday night. big_smile

Used Driver Genius Pro to find all the missing drivers on all the PCs in the house (five so far...) and slapped those into a manually-made pack.
Reason I did this was
a) because on one PC the printer service refused to work.
Died just during a prinitng session on page 4 of 6...
Couldn't fix it otherwise so it was time for a reinstall (been running for over a year anyway).
b) my previously created UWXPCD had troubles recognizing the OB SC and trying to manually install the drivers FUBAR'ed the system (either I would get sound with one version but the comp wouldn't restart/shutdown anymore or I wouldn't get any sound but it would shutdown properly...).
c) there haven't been any updates from Bash recently so I thought I'd cover that with my personal pack so far wink

Anyway, it went fine so far, on my test PC that is.
The one it's supposed to be for didn't like my RW it seems...
At least the fake install went surprisingly fast and it couldn't find finish.log...
Currently creating a CD-R to see if it likes that better.
The ODD is somehow dying I feel so no biggy...

The size is, uhm, 20MB 7-zipped.
Fair 'nough, still leaves about 12MB of free space on my CD smile

When time allows, I will post the proper [REQ] threads to the drivers I included (aka those still mising in Bash's packs so he can update them for the next time.
Alternatively, if someone is really interested in it, I could also upload it but since it only contains drivers for devices found on my five PCs it's far from comprehensive (it does contain some Intel and Via chipset drivers as well as Intel WLAN, Realtek Sound and LAN etc so it is somewhat broad).

also, i don't think the DP name scheme you posted will work.  i think it has to be "DP_NAME_wnt5_x86-32_VERSION.7z" not "DP_NAME_wnt5_x86-32.7z"  that's what it took for me to get it working at least.

Works for me so I dunno...

Fragbert wrote:

Probably the cmdow.exe is triggering the false positive. NAV and SACE both classify (wrongly) that cmdow.exe is a hacktool.hidewindow threat.

Well, the both riight about it in so far that it does indeed make use of the hidewindow feature (that's what it's being used for in the DriverPacks).

Problem is, although this is a completely harmless operation it is being abused by some malware/trojans/keyloggers so it got blacklisted.

A shame really, because if you go that way, one had to blacklist Windows as well, as it enables these malware to execute ;P

Anyway, last I heared is that NOD32 is supposed to be a good scanner.
Still using NAV and haven't checked out yet, but maybe you should smile

I just checked out this Driver Genius Pro and I haven't made my final verdict yet but so far it looks very promising and useful.

Your ideas sound very good, ricktendo64!
I still need to try both AutoIt and AutoImage to even better make creating a UWXPCD totally automatic smile

Anyway, just a question, why do you use WinRAR when 7Zip is completely free and does the task just as well (if not better, IMO).

Also, please post your log files found in root.

ok you lost me  there ??? How do i do that ???

After installation, there's a dps_fnsh.log file in your root, ususally C:\
Open it, copy the contents ([ctrl]+[a], [ctrl]+[c]) and paste it into your post.

Put code tags around it like this
(code)blahblah(/code), only using [ and ] for ( and ).

It will then look like this:

Shouldn't matter, the QSC is only on the computer you create the slipstream disk with, not on the one you install it to AFAIK.

Enabled QSC will speed up the slipstreaming process, though.

That is an argument though.
Same temps and weather conditions over here and I wouldn't dare to start any slipstream processes now either ;P

Hey Helmi it a PCI-e card .....

Which card exactly?

Sorry man what i ment was when windows    Press any key to load from cd - Formats - installs - "restarts windows" - install windows (t13 etc) - "restarts windows" - finish install - ready to use

Its the  "restarts windows"  that won't restart ( reboot what ever u want to call it ) it just hangs there and i have to hit the rest button. The driver installs and nothin else for the ATI part every other driver is install correctly....

So it hangs on both of the restarts?

Have you tried using Save Settings in your BIOS compared to Performance ones?
Win setup is ususally very tricky if you use fast RAM timings.

For the ATi problem I can't help you any further if you cannot tell us the designation of the card.

Also, please post your log files found in root.
Use the code tags for the list, please.

Nice tut!

(I like them when they contain lotsa pics wink).

Though, as to the space issue:
If you use nLite, I find it very easy to shrink my XPCD with SP2 and all rollup packs included (RyanVM resp. Sereby) to a MERE 350~370mb without removing any relevant contents (if you look at it, there is so much garbage on it, staring with MSN Explorer (who needs that when you already got IE?!) and definately not ending with a bunch of language and keyboard packs that you will never ever use (frankly, which apart from your native tongue and maybe English would you use for your OS?).

That stuff removed, I can easily fit all the DriverPacks and all of the 3rd Party DriverPacks minus the printer ones (I could make them fit, but that takes a bit of instinctive feeling on what else to remove...).
On a CD that is.

Other than that, if you publish screen shots, make sure to show all file extensions in Explorer, else it doesn't look very professional wink tongue
(I hope you don't really work with them off!)

#1: Did the CP install though?
That's the problem I'm having despite selecting CCC in BASE.
What GFX card is that?

It's definately a known problem, though.

#2 So I assume it stalls/hangs during the installation, correct?
(or what do you mean by loading, the boot process? Please be more precise!).
At what state does it do this?
Still Textmode setup or after first reboot?
If so, what does the timer say (T minus #minutes)?

Running any virus scanner with auto-scan in the background?

#1 and #2 are already known problems expected getting fixed in the next version (whenever Bash finds the time).

#3 I'm not so sure of, how about you compare the driver version number yourself?

Wow, thanks you so much!

Looks very promising.
I'll be sure to try that out on my next CD (probably as soon as a new DP version comes out smile).

Me and others have already explained it in the other thread.

In future, it would be great if you'd only post any questions once, helps to keep the forum  ordered and keeping track of replies easy.

Having the same thread twice does not help anyone actually smile

Anyway, the method bober uses is what I'd suggest, too.

However, you could also slipstream RyanVM via nLite, which will also slipstream SP2 for you so it's one go.

After that (and you've done any nLite tweaking in the same rush), integrate the DriverPacks.

Then either use nLite again to create the ISO (too bad DriverPacks don't feature that yet, since they are the last step) or CDIMAGE.
You could also do this manually using CDRWIN and the boot.img file, but that's certainly more trouble than it's worth and definately not recommended for newbies.

Nlite first (along with RyanVM, ive never had any issues doing that), then driver packs using Bâshrat the Sneaky Base GUI.

Jup, whatever you do, DP BASE should be the last thing before creating the ISO.

If you don't want to use RyanVM via nLite (I don't see why, it's the most convenient way to get things done), use it first, then nLite.

I'm using the German version of Ryan's packs (created by Sereby) and I also always integrate them with nLite (along with other packs, such as .NET, DirectX update, Java etc.), never had an issue so far.

I have been following this site for quite some time now but never bothered to post it.
Dunno it's been done before, but I think it's worth it simply because it lists any new drivers that came out the previous week.

That way, it's much easier to keep track for Bâshrat the Sneaky than having to follow every single post of us reporting about new versions (not saying you shouldn't continue to do it, though wink).

http://www.heise.de/newsticker/meldung/75509

Unfortunately, it's in German, but driver versions are pretty universal I figure.
If you need any help, I'm willing to translate, or simply bother Google with it big_smile

If any one else knows of similar pages offering the same level of quality, don't hesitate to share!
Since Bash seems to be rather busy ATM I figure it's best if we help each other out in the meantime!

Best regards!

Were do I submit the updated drivers for Bâshrat the Sneaky to include in the next update?

In the respective forum dealing with the specific DP you'd like to see the driver included.

Make sure they are final drivers as no beta ones will be included.
Also, verify the version you want the DP to be updated too is not already included.
Just because your system is using an older version is not enough proof.

Check the read-me for the DP to see which driver versions are currently included.
You will find them on the DL page.

I'm not 100% sure but logic dictates they must be built in the hardware, else it would completely defeat their purpose.

How could you definately detect a specific hardware component if the code would vary from system to system.
The driver detection and installation is based on this (else, all drivers had be installed, whether the approriate device is present or not).

You may want to keep the log files, else they'd be completely useless if you have the script that creates them also delete them right away w/o giving you the chance to have a look at them.

Unless you really don't care...
