I'm trying to get this to work and I'm not having any luck. I have machines which I deploy through RIS that install hardware with these driverpacks and it works flawlessly, however some machines (laptops) do not have a PXE compatible network card so I must install windows with a CD. I want to make a batch file that will copy over the drivers from my server, update the current drivers on the computer with the ones I just copied, and then wipe everything I copied off of it.. and I want all this automated if possible.

Here's what I have done so far by following your posts:

SET TAGFILE=\\RISSERVER\MSI\Driverpacks.net
SET LOCATION=\\RISSERVER\REMINST\SETUP\ENGLISH\IMAGES\WINDOWSXP\$OEM$\$1

%TAGFILE%\BIN\un7zip.exe %TAGFILE%\Driverpacks\DP*.7z "%SystemDrive%\"

COPY /Y %LOCATION%\DPsFnshr.ini %SystemDrive%\
start %LOCATION%\Mute.exe on
start %LOCATION%\DSPdsblr.exe
start %LOCATION%\DPsFnshr.exe
taskkill /f /im DSPdsblr.exe
%LOCATION%\Mute.exe off

exit

I'm using DP with my RIS installs, however I'm trying to make a driver pack finisher that will install updated drivers on computers that will not install through PXE (I have to use a CD for these). My variables point to the location of the needed apps, and %LOCATION% points to the OEM directory of one of my images that I have slipstreamed with DP_Base. I have ran this script, and from what I can tell it extracted all the drivers to the hard drive of the computer I ran the script on (good) but once it ran the finisher it deleted them all without updating the drivers on the actual machine. Is there a setting that I'm missing or a line that isn't in my script?

Use Driverpacks BASE to integrate the drivers and use these options:

1. Location of platform: i386 directory of your RIS image generally %drive%\RemoteInstall\Setup\English\Images and use disc platform
2. Select all the packs you want to integrate
3. You can use either method 1 or 2, the first one is simpler to integrate and it is the one I chose
4. Again I went with the first option, its up to you which one you want to use
5. KTD or KeepTheDrivers is optional, if you want the drivers to stay on your computer after install enable it. If not, disable it
6. Make sure you choose enable QSC, it will take a long time for the first image you integrate, but the next ones after will be a snap.

It is possible to use these packs with RIS to install the drivers using your legacy images.. that is what I have been doing and it works like a charm.

Hang on, uses the "disabler"? Here's what I have done:

I use RIS for deploying images and I have these driver packs integrated into my existing image.. I did not integrate them first then make an image out of it. This is why my answer file has DriverSigningPolicy=Ignore , and NonDriverSigningPolicy=Ignore. What can I do?

Hmmm thats always a possibility.. I'll swap sticks and try again to see if that solves the problem. What Rage card did you use?

EDIT: Swapped memory, still get errors. Used a Rage 128 Pro card instead of a regular Rage 128 and didn't work. Used a different machine and didn't work.

I have disabled the requirement of signed drivers in my answer file:

DriverSigningPolicy=Ignore
NonDriverSigningPolicy=Ignore

Also I'm using Windows 2000 so signed drivers shouldn't really be an issue.

Is there anything I can try so I can get it to work? Or are drivers missing in the pack?

Just slipstreamed that test pack into my install and tried it out.. doesn't work. I still get the same blue screen halting my installation. I deleted the old QSC and still doesn't help.

Just received a blue screen with a Rage 128 card in a machine. Is there anything I can use as a workaround until this is fixed? Or is there a spot where I can download the previous version of Driverpack Graphics B?

EDIT: Blue screen information

STOP: C0000263 {Driver entry point not found}

The \SystemRoot\System32\DRIVERS\ati2mtaa.sys device driver could not locate the entry point VideoPortAllocateCommonBuffer in driver Videoprt.sys.

HWID for video card is:

PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_5046&&SUBSYS_00081002&REV_00

Sounds like a failing hard drive to me.

The only way I found to pass that blue screen on my machines were to disable the onboard sound and continue with the installation.. then remove the fragments of drivers left over from the driverpacks once I was in windows. Also, refer to these two posts which helped me a lot and may be able to help you as well.

I've been trying to deploy Windows 2000 with ATI Rage 128 Pro cards and have been getting blue screens, may have something to do with this problem, I'm not sure.. I'll find out the HWID and post back either today or next week.

There are tools released by Microsoft that will let you create your own answer files and they are on CD.. I can't remember the file structure right now but try under tools or addons.. there's a cab file that contains all programs like that

Ok I tried commenting out what you suggested in the file and it still gives me blue screens during install.. portcls.sys

EDIT: Here's my method of doing it: Unpacked the 7.05 sound driver A pack, modified the INF file and commented out the line, repacked it using the original name (keeping a backup of the original) then used DP_Base to slipstream it into my image and pushed it out using RIS to a Vectra test machine. Its obvious that its not working this way, but should I have cleared my QSC for Sound pack A before I slipstreamed it using the modified file? Or will that not make a difference?

EDIT2: Ok I deleted the QSC and re-slipstreamed it into the package and that seemed to work. The machine is up and running with a proper driver installed. Thanks for all your help in this matter. smile

Well here's the thing: there are no drivers on the HP website that I could find for that machine so I wasn't really sure what the driver was until I got it working. When I get in tomorrow at work I'll try out what you suggested and get back to you.

The motherboard of the PC is an Intel board (I think).. I can't check right now because its at my work. The model of the computer is a HP Vectra VL400.

Here is the link for my log:

After playing with the machine a little bit, I managed to get the drivers to install.. however I never installed any software. I went into safe mode and un-installed the hardware, then rebooted into regular mode. The hardware "device" came up as a sound driver for the Intel 828011AA/AB

EDIT: Actually, I got it to work by installing the Realtek AC'97 software in safe mode, rebooting back into safe mode, uninstalling it, then rebooting into normal mode and the sound installed properly.

I cannot use the save_hwids program because all the links are dead. The HWID that I had found for that device I found through winmsd which I ran through the run box.

I get the same problem on a machine I'm working on right now, with a portcls.sys error. I've done some research and found that this is the device ID for the sound card of a similar machine:

PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2415&SUBSYS_1249103C&REV_02\3&61AAA01&0&FD

If I have the sound card enabled during windows install, it hangs with that error, if I disable it for the setup, then enable it afterwards, it will install partly as a realtek AC'97 device and crashes the system.

How do you "exclude HWID's" from .inf files? I'm getting BSOD's during installs on machines and would like to fix this problem asap.
