Hi !

I have come across a serious problem with the AMD PCI Express (3GIO) Filter Driver that is included with the Chipset pack x86.

If this driver is integrated into the Win7 image, it will cause some devices to fail with the following error message:

This device cannot find enough free resources that it can use (Code12)

I have seen this problem on two PCs so far.

The first PC can be easily reproduced by anyone of you who has access to a HyperV Server. If you install Windows7 with this driver integrated into a HyperV virtual machine with a legacy network card configured it will not have any network access because the network adapter driver for the "Intel 21140 Bades PCI Fast Ethernet Adapter" cannot be started. In addition the "Microsoft Emulated S3 Device Cap" System device will also fail to start. Installing the Integration services (drivers for HyperV) will not help and the ATI driver cannot be uninstalled (at least I did not find it) so the machine is more or less broken.

Here are some pics:

(I have no idea why they do not show like the one below even with the "img" Tag)

The second PC where I have found this problem is on a small Asus eepc Netbook (I don´t have the details anymore because the pc did not belong to me but I can find this out again)

Here the device was the
Mobile Intel 945 Express Chipset Family driver:

I don´t have the Hardware IDs for this right now but I can get it next week if needed.

I would suggest that you drop that driver from the pack, who knows what other device it conflicts with ...
Took me at least 12 hours to find the culprit for those problems ... :-(

Bye
Alex

Hi !

Here are a two links for HECI/AMT (SOL) drivers that are on some Dell Clients. According to Dell they are from march 2010.
Would you mind adding them to the chipset packs ? (XP and Win7)

Hi !

Is there a reason why this driver is missing in the packs (Vista/Win7 + WinXP)
Unfortunately I did not find a generic driver from the manufacturer but a driver is available from the dell site:

Win Vista/7:

WinXP:

Hi Razormoon,

would it be too much to ask to modify your app to accept the driverpath on the commandline instead of using that ini file ? I´d like to keep my scripts totally independent of location in the filesystem so I query the current path whenever possible and then use that in a variable.

Just do it if it is easy to implement, thanks !

Hi Razormoon,

thanks, seems to work fine now. I especially like that the tool also works silently if the driverdir has been specified once. I guess there is no problem running the tool on a driverdir with already expanded drivers ?

Hi Razormoon,

you script does not work for me. I have thought about it quite some time and I think I know why.
The file DRVEXP.TXT only contains entries like this after running your script:

Z:\Installation\AIW

I did not know why it did not contain the correct path to the driverfiles and I think I know why. The path to my driverfiles looks like this:

Z:\Installation\AIW_Base\AIW5\AIW5_Source\Drivers_Source

Do you see the underscore in the foldernames ?
I guess thats why your script does not work for me.

Any ideas ? :-)
Thanks,
Alex

Hi guys,

sorry, I did not want to piss of anyone, I was just a bit annoyed by the fact that numerous people have posted for the last few weeks that drivers have to be expanded in order for dism on Windows 7 to work correctly and muiz still keeps on saying that it works for him so there is no need to change anything.

@Razormoon, thanks for the script, will try it out.
@Overflow: I have just been using the Vista driverpacks available, added the W7 drivers, muiz left out (Ati, Nvidia) and expanded all the compress files. Nothing more so I could post them but there is nothing magic in there ....

As for the future: I don´t know about you, but for me the driverpacks integrator or whatever the tool will be called has to be scriptable otherwise I would keep using DISM. I have made a script that builds all my windows editions, integrates drivers, applications, WPI and creates ISOS or updates the WDS Server. So it would be a step backwards to use a tool that can only be operated manally (like Vista Tool or the Old driverpacks Integrator for Windows XP).

IF that could be arranged that would be fine. In general, I have the feeling that driverpacks development/updates are far to slow to really be very useful. Usually if a new driver comes out, integrating that into a new pack should not take more than 5 minutes (just replace the driver inside, expand the driver files, create a new pack by script, bingo). At least thats what I have been doing with the Vista driverpacks.

At least for the Vista/W7 driverpacks that should be the case. It is probably much more complicated for XP, I know.

If you need any help for things like that I can gladly help out.

Bye,
Alex
