Microsoft said they were going to make a "Major announcement" regarding Windows 7.
If you have Business, Ultimate or Enterprise versions you can download a "Virtual XP" file(s) and run XP under Windows 7.

The links below explain it better and have screenshots.

http://www.neowin.net/news/main/09/04/2 … -windows-7

http://community.winsupersite.com/blogs … ows-7.aspx

p.s. File compatibility was one of the main issues in Vista, this would certainly answer that problem.
Several users of the new 7100 RC are saying it boots faster than 7077 and runs faster.
Maybe they compiled for speed rather than test mode stability.

Anyone having problems downloading files.

Get to 99% and getting "Server reset" errors.

Win7 64 7077

Happens with Firefox and IE8

You should learn to use Google. Took all of 30 seconds.
It's a 9XX series chip.

Next time please create your disc using DriverPacks. Look for the tutorials.
We are not here to help unless you use our Packs.

Very nicely phrased, you were more polite that I would have been, that's why I stayed out of it.

I get tired of people bringing race, religion etc. into an argument.

If our friend is not happy he can do things the American way. LEAVE.

If he something to offer then he should post some code.

He is obviously some juvenile dickead.

Well thank you kind sir.

Windows 7 build 7077 64 bit.
(Activates until March 2010, same with 7068)

A couple of interesting thing using Live Mail:

When you import Messages it puts the old Mail into a folder called - Storage Folder. I had to copy the old Inbox to my main Inbox
Import your Address List ONLY from a .Wab file or you lose all your Groups.

Firefox 3.1 Beta 3 OK.

Stardock Fences OK

Webshots OK

Eset 4.0 Suite OK

Klite Mega Codecs OK

Quickbooks 2009 OK

Nvidia Win 7 64 bit drivers OK

If you have any other "finds" please post to help others.

Thanks for your hard work, will try it tomorrow and try to post back.

Nice to see someone giving back to the Forum. Way to go

Download worked for me !!!!

ScryingHawk:

Do you get an error message saying something like:

      Invalid system disk ??

Does your motherboard have an Nvidia Chipset.

The page you posted is indeed Google and almost all the listings are for Torrents.

Please read:

WE DO NOT SUPPORT WAREZ AND MOST TORRENTS ARE WAREZ.

As was mentioned in earlier posts, we do not have time to work on XP 64. You will have to find some other site or create them yourself.

Please do not force your opinions down our throats.

Thank you and goodbye. Have a nice day.

"Hint: You can leave nLite open at the create ISO page while you run DriverPacks."

Thanks, never thought of that. Will save some time.

As Windows 7 is about to hit RC1 status, bug fixes only from this point I would appreciate comments on the following:

We create a new Windows 7 Forum in the Vista Forum and sub Forums under that.

Discussion of which vendors are shipping Win 7 drivers (ATI and Nvidia have sections already).

The myriad of other stuff we can find and share.

I think the days of Vista are numbered and MS wants to forget it as soon as possible.

32 and 64 bit drivers, hopefully the vendors will issue unified drivers for both (dreaming).

Don't know what the keepers of the gate at the Vista Forum would think ???

Stu

Just my 2 cents.

Wow, you certainly are keen on whether its call a "program" or an "OS"

XP 64 is an OS, OK.

If you wish to write your own DriverPacks for XP 64 (OS) then please do so, I and others would be glad to help you test in their spare time.

You are not going to change the minds of the people on this Forum who consider XP 64 as being to small a usage level as far as we are concerned to spend a great deal of time for a handful of users.

With the download level this Forum has for 32 bit, it only makes sense to spend the majority of our time working on that.
This may change with Win 7 ???

I agree, there are drivers for video, sound etc., but a lot of other drivers are not true 64 bit but work with 64 bit.
If you working with Server 2003 64 then I would say there are drivers for everything inside the box.

Glad to be of help.

Stu

Children, children, XP 64 is a great program even though very few people use it and drivers are scarce.
The vast majority of users are 32 bit based because of the driver issue. I tried XP 64 and had to drop it because of driver issues.
Many components (re: printer, scanner etc.) drivers are not supported in a true 64 bit version, Vista and Win 7 are.

Windows 7 32/64 bit versions have had the multicore scheduler re-written and optimized, it will work better than XP 32/64 with multicore CPU's, this was also partially true with Vista.
The memory management in Win 7 64 bit is better than XP 64. Microsoft has been through a learning process over the last few years (Vista being the exception).
Win 7 now only loads components that are required for the OS to operate with other DLL's etc. loading when requested, drivers load in parallel, something XP 64 does not do.

Win 7 32/64 will have far more drivers within 6 months than XP 64 will ever have.

I realize you have your views as well as others on this Forum and I/we respect them. I agree that XP 32/64 will remain for many years to come as will Windows 2000 and 98SE.
Still have clients running Windows 3.11. Some claim that is the best OS, others claim 98SE is the best thing since sliced bread, all personal viewpoints.

Many people on the Forum who have testing knowledge of Win 7 believe it has the basis of a great OS possibly as great as XP.

Go in peace children and fight no more.

Enjoy your weekend.

Stu

Thanks for the info.

Looks as if 64 bit is finally becoming a mainstream standard, it seems to run a little faster than 32 bit.

As for a leaner version, cast your minds back to the beta versions of Vista, they ran FASTER than the shipping version.

Win 7 already installed on my test rig (wooden base, can change parts really quick) in 32 and 64 bit versions so I am ready to test.

Stu

Just ordered an Asus 10" netbook with Atom 1.66 and 1 gig (ordered a 2 gig chip), will reload the OS with DP and let you know.

Also going to add Windows 7 - 7048 on a spare HD and try with 1 gig and then add the 2 gig.

Are you using 32 or 64 bit Win 7 ??? What CPU/Memory etc.

Stu

p.s. Everything I try with the latest nightlies is working just fine.

Does it help to post "success" installs or only when I have a problem.

When installing from CD I got the following error:

Access violation at address 004EA1E2 in module DOInstaller_WSED.exe. 'read of address 00000000

Cannot create file "D:\dp\cmdfile". Access is denied.

Worked OK when I copied to a flash drive and ran from there.

Let me know if there is anything I can do to help.

Stu

Need to ask a question:

Does your program require .NET of any kind to be able to run properly.

Just did a base install from an original XP CD and the program will not run correctly.
(No drivers loaded during or after install)

DPInst also does not run.

Just interested.

Stu

p.s. Thanks for the great work.

Can we have one that says "Tester" please, please please please.

This really shows the diversified talent we have on the Forum.
From coding to Web design. An amazing bunch of people.

Everyone I know who was running XP-64 jumped ship to Vista as soon as it was available (out of sheer frustration).
I'm with JakeLD, as soon as Win7 is final, I'm onboard!  Vista is history.  XP-32 is still my recommended OS for older hardware though, and I still run it on my two notebooks.

I to tried XP/64 and removed it within 2 days. Then tried Vista 64 and had a lot of problems with my scanner and NEC 1800 laser printer, Netgear SC100 NAS, removed within a week. Now running Win 7 64 in a removable drive bay and am almost at the point of adopting it for my primary OS, very stable even in Beta form. IE8 seems to have some problems, but as I use Firefox all the time it's not a problem.

Most of the Vista drivers seem to run without problem as Microsoft promised.

Just my 2 cents worth.

(I think Australia was first at 6:00am PST - not certain???)

Another day comes and goes and DriverPacks keeps going.

A silent round of applause for the people who do this amazing work in their "spare time".

I wish everyone a Happy New Year and many more to come.

From all the DriverPack team (hope everyone agrees)

I am amazed at the no snow reports. When I was living in England (25+ years ago) we had snow at Christmas every year and the same in Europe. Probably not many of you were even born then.

It was always nice to look out on Christmas morning and see several inches of snow.

Times and the climate has changed.

I edited the first post to make the wishes come from the entire DriverPacks Team, I'm sure that's the message you wanted to convey in the first place, wasn't it.

It certainly was.

I assume you have snow in Europe, as an ex Brit. I really miss it at the holidays.
(Nice to look at, horrible to drive in).

As you are 8 hours ahead of us in the USA, if you get a Santa sighting please post, I'm hoping for a 1366 pin quad core (some hopes).

I wish everyone on this forum:

A very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Please drive carefully, we want you back next year.

Depends on the PC you are using. I use an Intel quad core with 4 gigs and it takes 7 minutes 30 seconds.
15 minutes is not excessive.

AMD MB's seem to run faster at slipsteaming.

My bad. I should have said - INTEL - appears to have dropped support for Windows 2000 & Server 2000 from their ICH10R drivers.

Sorry for the confusion.
