remember, it is a preview.. it was intended to just explain the basics.

To answer your question, most packs will have an INI soon enough.
At the moment, only a few have an INI.
When the New Base version comes out, most packs will have it.

In one of my trials, I had done the manual upgrade and install removal, and some other things.

I just checked, with only manual upgrade and install removal, and setup.ex_ missing was apparently triggered by another Nlite option. I cannot recall anyone ever reporting this error (save me.. I did mention it in a report on a  nightly.) so I reckon it is very uncommon.
Nevertheless, I will try find back that option that dood it to it.
(like in, "The butler dood it." hehehe)

yes, Base did not alter OEMpreinstall=YES line.

Hi

in NLite, there are two settings wich will kill the process.

UNattended setting > OEM Preinstall >> defaults to enabled, and should be DISABLED
Therefore, check WINNT.SIF
the line has to say this, OemPreinstall=No.
If it says "YES", method 2 textmode is not going to work.

another option in Nlite, will cause DPs_Base to throw error, SETUP.EX_ not found
This is caused by this one
Operating system options > Manual Install and Upgrade
If you remove this, building a method 2 cannot work.

hi
if you want to modify a driverpack, you do that in a separate folder, because you have to repack it along with its INI. ( you will also have to look at the INI, because if you remove folders what got referenced in the INI, finisher would throw an error)

DPs_base uses the packs, not the extracted folders.

Don't merge the packs into a single archive.

Hi Erik,
I did that because of this topic, and then went to bed.
There were a few minor other edits as well.
I'll email the file. hehehe, a V7 is in the making.

Helmi, I've edited the preview of tutorial a bit to make that somewhat more clear.

can you post your base INI and base LOG files?

OH yes, you need textmode for "live" machines.
here is a preview of a tutorial

I hope that the articles and tips given by the gentlebeings here helped.

smile

thanks for the feedback.

Hi
current public release for mass storage is 711.
if you are trying to get to older packs, that could explain your error.

when you look in the mass storage forum, you can find testing versions for still newer interim ''not yet released'' versions.

Hi
which versions of base and DriverPacks are you using?

hi
on my way home I thought about this one.
It occured to me that the driver would be present in the system since the chip is on that mobo what runs the system.

now that you installed the driver, you can clone, and see what happens when you pull old drive and boot from new one.
good luck.
This entire discussion was "kinda" off topic, for it is not what the DriverPacks and base is normally used for.

Hi BJ

the newest tute ( a fairly recent collaboration by Erik, Martin and I)
http://users.pandora.be/jtdoom/basetute/Eng_tut6b.htm

a topic on how to put packs into a existing system
http://forum.driverpacks.net/viewtopic.php?id=960

I read an article on acronis or ghost, where a clone operation like you propose is performed.
I think you have to know about VOLid change tool (sysinternals, at Microsoft)
I'll try find back that article, it is quite interesting.

EDIT:
hmmm, if memory serves me well, it was another one, but it was pretty much like this article
http://www.acronis.com/homecomputing/co … image.html
--------
you will have to look at the driver that is actually needed for win2000 or win2003, and I hope that what Bâshrat the Sneaky says makes sense to you.

Helmi had some good suggestions too.
yep, it was teamwork..

Hi BJ

do I know you from VDr?

Hi
and that is what this test version is about.
in this 70319nightly version the INI file was edited, The alfanumerical order in the Silicon Image section of the INI looks a mess now, but ALL silicon image raid mode drivers precede non raid mode drivers, so that textmode loads them before NON-raid mode.

to all people using this version,
Most important.. We need to know what happens when NON-raid drives on Silicon Image chips are used.
We also want to know if your RAID array was a problem, and if this version fixed it.

If this version gets setup to NOT see single hard drives on all Silicon Image, then we have to really bang our heads together. Silicon has been a problem for so long, and so often, see..
Anyway, the purpose of the INI is that one can now fairly easily change things.

hi
I can do that, and will.

like Ophielx says..
well, posts like this are easy to implement (takes some verification, and a minor update to changelog or supported HW list, and viola.)

I would still like to get the original driver download, for making true verification possible.

Hi
if clevo users find this, and hit the obsolete rapidshare link, they need not leave yet.

the update for clevo is in the 3rd party modem pack.
(if they use it, they can still let us know wether it did the trick)

note
this post was eddited, the load order in 70319 is same as as in 70322
70322 has a change in marvel, aimed at intel iastor/marvel conflicts, the below report about silicon image is still valid smile

I noticed several downloads, I hope one of them has the 6120, or 6140, or 6141 HWid

if that works as well, I'll be satisfied.
please post results

COOL
thanks.

hi
I was at this site yesterday since I was looking something up for a server 2003 version, and just looked again

hehe, I am glad i did.
they finally got 64 bit drivers for my cards. and even Vista 64..
I am looking at the versions you mention too.

Hi Erik

http://Eng_tut3b was removed

I used notepad as html editor, and made some edits in this, and gave it a higher revision number
that was /Eng_tut4b.htm which had to be corrected.

revision to 4 and 5 got done and got pulled.

If people need clarification or spot errors, they can suggest changes.
