when finisher launches KTD process, the machine should already run the drive in enhanced mode (DMA etc), which is why I wonder what hardware your tests run on..

Strangely enough I have come across enough (older) machines that need to have DMA enabled manually after installation., which is quite annoying for any unattended installations obviously.

It's a laptop HDD, jtdoom wink That's the reason why. I've also seen that when you copy large files from one location on the HDD to another one on the same HDD, that everything gets very slow. It's still LONG though.

Quite normal, as it has to read and write simultaneously.
Using two drives on the same IDE channel gets you better reults since one drive only has to read while the other only has to write, however, since the IDE bus isn't full-duplex capable, it still cannot do both tasks at the same time.

Yeah right...
It never did , its something that happens since the finisher.
And i dont have the time to sit back and relax.
Some people have to work u know.
We not all as lazy as you are.

Woha, now that is completely uncalled for! mad
I don't think personal attacks help solving the matter or bringing the discussion any further.

Besides, the point of an unattended instalation is that you, well, don't have to attend it.
In that regard it does not matter if it takes a bit longer or not, as you are supposed to do some other work in the meantime!

If you're doing this professionally, you probably have several systems to install on.
The overall time for one machine is negligible, since you can just start it on one machine, then move to the next, while it installs automatically.

I fail to see how this has anything to do with lazyness and if you conclude that my joke of "having a drink in the meantime" means I am lazy, then you completely misunderstood what I said...!
Get a sense of humour before coming back to me.

Sure, NP, but if you compare the date of my OP and the bump, you will notice it has been a week since, so I considered this a fair amount of time to remind you about it smile

How come the new version is more than 10MB smaller than the previous one?

Did those updated drivers got shrinked considerably by the manufacturers?

*bump*, too, because should you update the DP CS, I could include a new DP LAN as well smile

*bump*

Any ETA on this one?

Just wondering, because I currently have it included in a 3rd Party DP, which obviously isn't working as great as for the officialone, and I'm about to create a new CD-R (non-RW), so I'd like it "final" smile

muiz3 wrote:

On some computers it takes a looooooong time , i can confirm that.

Indeed.

That is why you make all the effords to get it unattended anyway - so you can lean back and let it work, do something else, have a drink, take walk etc big_smile

Well, doesn't Finisher imply it sort of does a last polish kind of job that obviously has to be done last, aka near the finish?

Why would you want to launch it any earlier?

I guess your question is merely academic, but I'm wondering where you'd see a possible advantage in doing it different than it's handled now.

I concur! smile
Took a while to get there (don't ask how many beta version I tried with different settings and all wink, but it was worth all the efford.

That said, it's time to move on with new features, eh? big_smile

What exactly got fixed?

the last step is putting your own DriverPack in the "DriverPacks" directory of the DriverPacks BASE.

Just to be 100% sure, 3rd party driver packs are no longer to be in "3rd party DriverPacks" directory, but together with regular DriverPacks in the "DriverPacks" directory?

No, the only thing that has changed is the file structure within the DP archive.

They are included with the BASE, aren't they?

Hah, was just going to post this, great find!

Bâsh, please include smile

Oh, I see smile

Well, in any case, since the author specifically points this out, it is quite possible one or another card is not yet supported so best would be to get in contact with him when you encounter a card not working as expected.

I know I'm repeating myself here as I posted this in many other threads so far, but to easily modify the INF file to get the ordinray rivers from ATi's page to support mobile devices, use http://www.driverheaven.net/patje
If yor card is not supported yet, do not hesitate to contact the author so he can add it to the list.
This modified driver could then be included in a 3rd Party DP (or Bâshrat the Sneaky could add it to the official packs maybe?) so you get both a current driver (not these totally outdated ones from your laptop manufacturer) and proper support for your res and more.

Hm, that is very strange.
I take it the driver installs properly (eg no error messages)?

How do you verify there is no D3D?
Did you run dxdiag tests?

Err, in wise foreseeing wink, I posted the links to both the driver as well as an (optional) update right in my inital post smile

I'd happily mail them to you, however, the first link weights in at some 66MB (as it's multi-language) and I can't send such large mails (ok, I could upload them but that kind of defeats the purpose...).

Please, if possible, get it from these links.
If it fails or the DL is too large for you, I could send you only one specific language (~2.5MB), of course!

I know it worked back when I installed on my laptop (don't ask me which DP version that was, I think it was around March) with a Mobility X700.

In any case, you can use the official drivers on virtually any Mobility card using this tool:

No, this driver basically works for EVERY DVD-RAM drive, which is why I even bothered to publically post this so others can profit from the solution, too smile

(15 replies, posted in 3rd Party DriverPacks)

Alright, thanks Bâsh, I will try that later (need to make a new CD with 6.08.6 anyway smile)!

So far, that will work out for me as I only have one DVD-RAM capable drive in my machines.
I guess I can extend it so far as to support a second or maybe thrid drive I may buy and since I'm not using the packs commercially the amount of PCs I would install on is sall enough.

However, as you're requiring a specific ID this is far from being a universal solution.
I guess, trying to read out the capability list of the ODD is beyond what can be done with a script.
The way I see it, one would have to make use of Nero CD/DVD speed to get this information but that is WAY beyond my capabilities to implement.

I think KTD is almost exactly what you are looking for.
It will copy all drivers to your HDD and tell Windows to search for drivers in that folder when new HW is found.

Unless you want to create this directory on an already installed Windows...

Alright, I did that.

It's not too large to paste though (at least, my log file were even larger sometime wink) so I will just post it here if you don't mind.

Thanks for your help so far!

Nope, that won't work as it doesn't show up at least in Driver Genius.
Will try the other tools, too, but I don't think that will do much.

It's not so much a driver per se, more like enabling Windows to read/write UDF format.
Well, that might still be a driver if you are specific but it is not listed, unlike, for instance, the special driver for BlindWrite.

Very strange.

Hmm, that might be a possibility, however, since a special formatting tool is needed to be installed (it will provide the context menu formatting option for Windows Explorer just as for FDDs and HDDs), I'll have to see whether it will capture than and also properly install it...

Will try later and report back!

Heya folks.

Since my laptop contains a DVD RAM-cabale multi-format DVD burner and I'm making good use of DVD-RAMs as backup media (they are far more secure than DVD±RWs!), I'd like to integrate the necessary drivers (WinXP can write them without any special drivers, HOWEVER it will use the antiquated FAT32 FS instead of the way superior UDF).

I got a working-for-all driver (usually they are company-bound, which obviously sucks for a UWXPCD, so you'd have to hack them first) from here: http://askiris.toshiba.com/ToshibaSuppo … %204820627

An update for this version can be obtained here: http://www.bhacorp.com/download/utilities/dvdram.html

So far, so great.

Problem is, they don't contain any INF files, so you have to run the setup.EXE to make them install.
A silent installation apparently works with the "-s" switch.

Question is, how would I properly incorporate this as a 3rd Party DP or would I even have to rely on nLite to make it work (no biggie, I use them both anyway so either version is good as long as it works).

The real problem lies in how to detect a DVD-RAM writer in the system so it gets installed only on those machines compatible.

Any help really appreciated!

It's not the control panel wich is affected by the security brech.
It's the driver!

So it's really recommended to update it, or somebody may execute programcode with SYSTEM Privileges..!

Apparently you didn't read the post I liked.

This is NOT the "Take controll of other person's laptop due to faulty driver using buffer underrun" kind of hack but a MEMORY LEAK found in the latest version which is supposed to fix the BUFFER UNDERRUN problem.

Entirely differnt problem and in contrast to the one you posted it IS related to the control panel, not the driver.
