Ok, I just tried it from my Vista RC2 installation, just to make sure it isn't some misconfiguration with XP (you never know...).
Doesn't work either.
May try later with a Linux Live CD but I have little hope.

Bâshrat the Sneaky, please try to get a workaround for us T-Online users (which is, btw, the largest ISP of Germany).

For the time being, I will just dl the testing DriverPacks (just finished getting the latest ones) and well, start testing on them wink
It's merely a minor inconvenience for me since I'd get the testing DriverPacks anyway, but I can see how big a trouble this must be for the average user!

Are the other online with T-Online???

Yes!
*raises hand*

However, I'm not using their proxy or anything.
Maybe I should and try if that works, huh?

maddriver wrote:

Already merged the drivers with nLite and it worked. Awesome software, don't you think?

Definately quite handy indeed.

jtdoom wrote:

hehe, You should use CDRW or DVDRW..

Yeah, absolutely.
That and maybe even use a Virtual Machine to test basic CD functionallity before installing it anywhere.
Doesn't catch any specific hardware related problems but shows you any mayor global problems (for instance with nLite).

The last nightly available is identical to this final indeed. But make sure you downloaded it after muiz' last update (check the nightly topic for that).

Yes, I got that one.
However, I need to redo the DVD (yes, finally, the first time ever, lol) anyway, because this WMP11 addon doesn't seem to work (not DP related, though).

But I wonder why this happens... Are you sure you aren't using any referer-blocking software?

No, I even disabled my DL manager (GetRight), which was working all the time before, though.
I have used it to dl every single DP off the net and never gave me probs.

Anyway, it does also not work without it and I did not change any browser or proxy settings (not using any).

Really out of clue here.

Forbidden
You don't have permission to access /DriverPacks/DP_Graphics_A_wnt5_x86-32_611.7z on this server.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

No idea why, it's the first time it happens for me.

Are there any last-minute changes compared to the last testing version of the DriverPack Graphics A?
I'm asking because I was just about to slipstream the DriverPacks when the UpdateChecker didn't complain about the pack not being official wink
If not, then I won't bother DL'ing this one.

However, I fear this will also affect others...

Jimbo wrote:

This is a big problem if you are assembling a band new computer or just bought a new hard drive (and are using the on-board SATA) and don't have an existing Windows XP installation to fall back on.

As a matter of fact, I just did assemble a brand-new system with an Intel board and Intel SATA-RAID (installing the OS on a RAID-0 array) and did not encounter any issues whatsoever installing on that machine with my UWXPCD.

Maybe it only affects specific Intel boards?

Just came across this article:
http://www.itwire.com.au/content/view/7246/52/

Might be an interesting read regarding the situation.

Anyway, keep in mind that the DriverPacks are still an excellent solution for either adding uodated drivers to the source or drivers for HW realeased after the RTM of Vista.
So while it may offer superior support to its predecessors it will not make the DriverPacks obsolete in any case.

EDIT:
Sorry, lieblingsbesuch, didn't follow your link...

No, I was actually about to test that very CATALYST 6.11 (hence I was so glad muiz managed to include it that fast!).
However, if required, I can also install in on my test system (which currently lacks a HDD as I am testing Vista on that one in my main righ...), which features an nVidia card.
It's only a GF2MX, but it always got the latest drivers and CP installed despite not being officially supported.
Since 3DMark 2001 ran flawlessly, I think I can conclude it is a falid testing environment even for the latest FW drivers. wink

Yes, as a matter of fact, I will be reinstalling my main system (NOT testing rig!, hence more modern HW) tomorrow with all the new nightly packs (the new G pack arrived just in time I might say wink).

So, stay tuned!

That must be one of the longest non-initial release changelogs I have come across the recent years smile

Do both the CCC and the CP fail?

I'm sure we've had this question again, if you could do a search on it, there's an answer from Bâshrat the Sneaky explaining what lines to delete/comment out from the finisher.ini

I have used driver detective and it informs me that I need to update my usb drivers but i can not find them anywhere.

What do you mean, you need to update them?
Do the USB ports work?
When using Mass Storage devices on USB (USB sticks, memory card reader, external HDD/ODD) is the speed according to what can be expected?

If so, and you do not experience any abnormal behaviour/crashes I would bother searching for any updated drivers.
If you're using WinXP SP2 you should already have the latest ones.

Just a sidenote on these driver utilities:
I'm using an five-years-old Intel board (i850E) and Driver Genius is telling me I need some ULI SB chipset driver...
Yeah right, because there is anything but Intel chips on it.
Don't always believe what these tools are telling you.
For instance, it also wants me to install the latest Intel INF drivers, however, those do not support my chipset anymore (it's been the case for over a year now I think).

Usually, if the manufacturer does not have any newer drivers on their support pages, you are good to use what you have in 90% of all cases.

Can't speak for RyanVM, but I'm using a similar update pack and it's working fine.
You can also use nLite on your source, and even both.

Just make sure slipstreaming the DriverPacks as the last step before creating the ISO (which program you use for is up to you, personally, I use nLite).

Debugger wrote:

lightsout, Helmi

Sorry, I was wrong...

Well, not necessarily.

IIRC, I had to point it to the USB printer host file in the Win dir.
I suppose it was a supplied-with file hence (else, it should have been included in the driver, right?).

My take is it's somewhat similar to the HDA hotfix you need to install.

Also, XP never had proper USB support until SP2, so...

moofaah wrote:

Is this because VMW doesnt support drivers at all? Should the drivers have been installed? Do they only install on a normal (not virual) install?

No.
I have successfully installed a complete UWXPCD on both VMWare as well as Virtual PC numerous (countless even!) times with great success, working the same way as on a real PC (with different devices, of course).

I do, however, have a problem with VMWare getting the audio driver installed although I am using 3rd party DriverPack VMWare.
Aparat from that, the installation is working successfully in so far as I am not receiving any error messages.

Your problem must be a different one...

i wrote several time how i make my xp cd didn´t i?
here again :-(
1. clean german xp sp2 source home or pro
2. then update with sereby´s updatepack with no addon´s only with option delete kb*.cat
3. then i make from this xp-base with nlite the konfiguration
4. now i supply the driverpack.
5. burn cd

get the desktop.ini issue

Yeah, looks like I mistake your base for the DP BASE, sorry about that.

Anyway, why don't you just give it a try and slipstream the UpdatePack using nLite?
Just for testing purposes...

It certainly can't hurt and should it indeed fix it for you you sort of have achieved your goal, no?

lightsout wrote:

WinXP certainly DOES need drivers for some HP USB printers, we've just deployment some recently....

Yes, I can confirm that.

I run into heavy torubles when I tried to add my HP LaserJet 1000 as a 3rd party DriverPack because of said required USB driver.
For some reason or another, although chosing the German version of the driver, the English version of the USB driver got installed, which XP didn't like and therefore my printer got not installed.
I had to manually point to the German USB file to make it work hmm

Anyway, nice to see this pack!
Thanks a lot, maxximum smile

mikelm wrote:

what is so hard to understand ?  why i should every time slipstream the updatepack to test some funktions in nlite ?  so i have a  base allready slipstreamd with the updatepack and now it is faster for testing new things , because i didn´t slipstream the updatepack again and again ...

Ok, now I see your point.

Anyway, since you are experiencing problems, I can only urge you to try a completely new, fresh source for bug-tracking.
Everything else is just negligent.

Also, you are making a mistake:
The BASE should always be slipstreamed last, just before creating the ISO.

Do not touch your source with nLite (apart from ISO creating) after that!
At best, only do some minor manual tweaks of which you can be absolutely sure they don't break anything.

mikelm wrote:

for doing this in 2 steps reason is simple: for testing nlite ist saves much time  to integrate the updatepack bevor  so i have a ready base to start with nlite ..

Huh?

Why does it save time at all?
Doing two steps takes more time (=user input) than doing it in one step.

Since nLite only calls the UpdatePack.exe I doubt the standalone slipstream would be any faster.

mikelm wrote:

best are both ...
i integrate serebys´by his own program, than i make konfig with nlite , and then i submit driverpack ,and always get the desktop.ini  issue .

Also, it is completely beyond me why anyone who uses nLite would NOT use it to integrate the Update Packs.
That makes it two steps in one, much more convenient.
You should at least giove it a try to see if that helps any.

please look if you  have also a desktop.ini in the startupmenues of the current user..
today i recognize that there are also visible desktop.ini files in PROGRAMME, STARTMENU and so  on...
all the time we have our eys ion the desktop.ini in th autostart but there are also in the other folders.
seems to be a problem during KTD setup

Can't check because, as I wrote numerous times already, I am no longer getting the error.
And since I always use RWs to test, the old versions giving the error are long overwritten.

I think I've said it several times before, but I always use nLite to intergate everything, including Sereby's Update Pack.

Which configs do you need, btw?
That of nlite or of the DriverPacks?

I will post them later today.

Yes, however, AFTER extracting that, you need to copy the DL'ed DriverPacks (non-extracted!) into the DriverPacks folder...

@helmi: you are testing on a virtual pc , i test on a real machine.

No, in fact, the previous version was tested on three different machines of which only one happened to be a virtual PC.

It is true, though, that my current CD was only tested on the VPC, because my dedicated testing rig has its HDD stripped ATM.

I don't think this really matters, because when I got the INI problem with the previous CD, it happend on all three machines, of which two a real PCs.

So, it also happened on VPC, but with my latest CD, it did not happen on VPC.

I do not see a pattern in this that would exclude VPC for a valid testing environment (for this, the requirement would be the INI error never occured, while, with the same CD it did occur on a real PC).
I think you can agree on that smile

it seems that here many people couldn´t read and are blind.

If I were you I'd watch my tone because if you continue to flame everyone you won't receive any help...

wit ha xp pro sp2 without anything else  only base 6.10 it give the desktop issue
and with the base 6.086 not ..
why is this so hard to understand ?

Yes, that is you.
If you did carefully read our responses, you aren't the only one experiencing the problem.
Jtdoom and myself are having the same issue.

And we are just reporting ehat helped us curing this problem.
If you don't like this bit of additional information then chose to simply ignore our posts and live with that.
There is absolutely no need to get down on us the way you did!

We are exchanging information here, because that's what a forum is for.
This isn't your own private thread where everyone only has to present a solution to you.

While I'm sure there is enough people around that want to help, you cannot make any demands here.
If you can't live with that maybe you should stop using the DriverPacks...

and also with sereby´s pack  the same effekts ..

If you read my last post you'd know that I am also using Sereby's pack and with the latest edition I am no longer having this issue.
I'm not sure what it is due but it didn't happen anymore and that's fair enough for me ATM.
