Re: e7221 intel driver for xp64 (8 replies, posted in Software)
post the drivers INF file in code tags and i'll mod it for ya to run a test with, if you like.
My best advise is to go to win7 it's quite nice and will unleash the power of your x64 processor as best as can be had with a windows OS. Simplest Easiest First...
More on 2k3 Workstation. You don't need to understand server to install 2k3 because you won't be useing any of the server features. in it's basic form it's not much different than XP. If you can repair XP then you fully understand 2k3 (Short of the server specific features that you won't need or use or install.) Before 2k3, server and workstation were the same OS (aside from any server specific features like DNS server etc...) IE windows 2000 server and windows 2000 workstation. MS does not provide a 2k3 workstation edition (xp64 was a half finished attempt to release "2k3 workstation")... however there is much documentation on how to hack 2k3 server into a viable 2k3 workstation (A working and better supported xp 64 solution). I think you would be amazed how similar XP and 2k3 are at least at the root level. The biggest downside is you would need a 2k3 server license, Since you work in a shop I am guessing you can get one without much trouble.
Again win7 is better and easier... i only suggested 2k3 workstation as a solution because i did not know if you had a specific reason to be married to XP. If there isn't one don't bother just get NT6 in your life!

Re: step-by-step DriverPacks making TUTORIAL videos Please !? :( (1 replies, posted in Feature Requests)
do you mean for updating the packs themselves?
If so, that is not possable... There are simply too many steps involved, and too many variables, and way to many exceptions to the rules. the video would be over 100 hours long .
If you mean for slipstreaming the packs... that was done by Carey Holzman and is posted in the FAQs.

Welcome Bob!
Thanks for the props! Music to our ears. That's certainly why we are here an what we are about.
Did you read any of our posts related to XP 64 and DriverPacks for it (Feature Requests has a very long thread about it)?
XP 64 bit has a handful of very enthusiastic followers. Unfortunately it is junk. It was a very shortlived MS experiment that was abandoned quickly in the shadow of Vista, both by MS and by hardware suppliers. I recomend you go to Win7, your hair will grow back out and that bruise on your forehead will heal . If you really hate the idea of moving to Win7 (IE as much as I hate Vista) then perhaps you should explore a Win 2k3 to workstation conversion instead of fighting with xp64. That will be a much more successful / productive investment of your time.
I know that is not what you wanted to hear and I am sorry for that because i was really impressed with your first post.
Welcome to DriverPacks and have an Awesome Day!
Jeff
PS did you try to force install the 2k3 drivers for your hardware? IE modify the the appropriate 2k3 drivers INF file?

Re: Drivers not installing (3 replies, posted in Installation Platforms)
OUTSTANDING first post Avatar... that is how it's done people!
Unfortunately SAD is based on the Microsoft redistributable file dpinst.exe.
We have had several reports in the past about failures related to dpinst. For some reason it does not work as well as slipstreaming the drivers and allowing setup to install them. We don't know exactly why.
perhaps with your feedback, and others like you, we can figure it out together. There must be a common denominator with the drivers that fail to install. Many drivers are very poorly written and that may be a contributing factor. Please continue to post your DriverPacks versions and HWIDs as you find failures. It may also be very helpful if you can find the related sections of your setupapi.log for the failed devices.
We will certainly be eager to help you to help us to help everyone else.
Again, I think the answers (or at least the clues) will be in the setupapi.log file(s). With HWIDs API log entries and pack versions we should be able to nail it down. The more examples we have the better the odds we can spot the problem. You may be correct about the signing issue, however it is my belief we have set the proper flags to allow unsigned drivers. perhaps a more aggressive approach to installing unsigned drivers will be the fix. Are all the drivers that fail having signing issues?
Thanks for helping us to help you.
Jeff
PS Welcome to DriverPacks!
PS Is it possable that you could have one of these problem machines for a few days for testing some ideas?

Re: driverpacks with unattended (11 replies, posted in Installation Platforms)
nope... i am CERTAIN that it did not work, and for the reasons stated previously, add to that your personal experience you just shared with us. The reason no other related posts are found is BECAUSE it won't work . Any driver that has a pack INI entry will fail to install from a KTD folder. This means that at least 20 percent of the drivers will fail to install, and once the max registry entry size is exceeded... then NONE of the drivers will install (100% failure).
I took over the authoring / programming of DriverPacks BASE before that was written...
I know a little about how installing drivers works
SAD will work for your needs with over 99% success.
Beat your head against the wall, or let me (or us) help... It's up to you .

Re: driverpacks with unattended (11 replies, posted in Installation Platforms)
those instructions are over three years old (june of 2007) and not accurate or useful.
because it is based on false assumtions about KTD.

Re: driverpacks with unattended (11 replies, posted in Installation Platforms)
that makes sense... the last update to autoimage was long before Vista hit the scene. (that version of AutoIt is not vista compatable) either run it from XP or use Win7 with XP support. (Vista is garbage)
Or you could just use SAD (What i would do) .
I updated my last post read the PS

Re: driverpacks with unattended (11 replies, posted in Installation Platforms)
Um looks like DriverPacks BASE ran normally... that's good.
I belive your network install is based on winnt32.exe ... (although i could not access the instructions you linked to)
DriverPacks is designed to be run from CD/DVD useing setup.exe localy... and has known issues with winnt32 installs.
the only way DriverPacks was ever supported with network installs was with RogueSpears AutoImage. RS has retired and is now a linux guy. however his app is still available. RS made DriverPacks compatable with winnt32 installs... at least for RIS installations. the best i can do is to suggest that you use autoimage to integrate DriverPacks into your source. I know that it will work with RIS if you do that. Im not sure how compatable that is with what you are doing but it is the best support that i personally have to offer you. Based on you trying to integrate all the packs with your network install.
Some of our crazy sysprep guys have other methods of integrating the packs for network installs the "universal imaging" forum here may also prove useful and those crazy's may also have some insight .
If I were you i would integrate Mass Storage textmode (Only the textmode drivers) and use the DriverPacks SAD (Stand Alone Drivers) method of updating the machine (post installation update or what MS calls a "Software First" install method).
Please ask whatever you like somebody will certainly have been in your shoes in the past.
here is a link to AutoImage in case you decide to try that route http://www.doitrightconsulting.net/forum/
RogueSpear is an old and dear friend of the DriverPacks and AutoImage and DriverPacks BASE were designed to work together.
We will see what we can do to help but network installation is not "technically" supported
PS there is absolutely NO reason to EVER use KTD ALL... that is insane and it won't do whatever you were hoping it would. Not only that but the path length of the full set of DriverPacks far exceeds the max size of a single registry entry, IE even if it might do what you were hoping ... it won't work. KTD is good for modems and monitors and USB devices etc... simple devices that might be attached to a fully installed and working machine. Complicated devices like printers or sound cards or video cards that require a setup.exe to be run will never install with KTD (since the DriverPacks Finisher is not called, they will therefore not have their setup.exe called and of course will then fail to install properly)

and most of them work to some extent.... However only the Intel drivers are actually needed. Most modern video cards support VESA natively and don't need drivers, except intel.

Re: XP CD doesn't prompt me to repair after integrating MassStorage (3 replies, posted in DriverPack Mass Storage)
I see absolutely no reason to EVER do a repair...
If windows is trashed so badly that you are considering a repair then a reload is the only viable solution. The result of a repair is a complete disaster as far as registry and related windows files are concerned. I'ts kinda like repairing a nail hole in a bald tire. Why bother patching something that is beyond repair, just replace it with a new one and fix it properly.
If you insist that a repair has to be done in certain instances then I would have a separate disc just for that. That way you can have an unattended install disc and a repair disc. If you are talented you could have a multiboot disc with both attended and unattended on it.

Please use the search feature of our forum... This question has been asked and answered many times.
this is the most detailed discussion about it... http://forum.driverpacks.net/viewtopic.php?id=2723
And here is the thread from the "Feature Requests" Forum. http://forum.driverpacks.net/viewtopic.php?id=2733
The repair feature is lost if the [Unattended] section exists in winnt.sif. The unattended section in winnt.sif must exist to prevent the popup of user input dialogs during the install. Winnt.sif is not created if ONLY mass storage textmode is selected... one of the main packs must also be selected (like mass storage) for the Winnt.sif to be created. DriverPacks only supports unattended installations, if you modify your winnt.sif for an attended installation then you do so at your own risk. No issues other than popup user input dialogs have been reported so it should be no problem, it is just not supported by us.
Review: You must make an either or choice, Unattended or Attended (repair is an attended install). If you choose to enable the repair feature then you will give up your (fully) unattended install.

I now know why your output for SAD is not the same as Somebodys....
Somebody told us to use Method 1 (M1) you chose Method 2 (M2). Well perhaps you did not choose it, since it is the default. BUT the solution is the same... You need to choose M1 for SAD .
In order to boot non standard controllers it is neccessary to FIRST (before you even load your VM with windows) Slipstream the mass storage drivers into the source that you will be useing to load your VM with. *See tutorial in my signature for this* (only add mass storage Textmode at this point). Once you have added the mass storage drivers you may then follow Somebodys guide.

yes you can put them together, however the dpinst.exe is the 32 bit version. I assume it will work on x64, not tested though... Let me know.
the packs need to be a subfolder of driverpacks.net\D\ IE C:\DriverPacks.net\D\x86\G_A

the platform 'Disc' is selected and is applied to the source disc (the disc / image you use to install the Virtual machine with)
See the DriverPacks tutorial linked in my signature. however you only need apply the mass storage text mode drivers as you follow the tutorial.
@Somebody
the DriverPacks Finisher is the tool that completes the driverpacks. IE some drivers require that an EXE is run to fully install them (control panels for example). This info is stored in the INFs you copy to the root of the drive. We refer to these driver requirements as "exceptions" the finisher applies all exceptions that are appropriate to the target machine and then removes the driverpacks and related files. "Finishing" the driver installation... as the name implies.

PE is an installation and recovery tool not an OS replacement.
mr_smartepants is correct.
BartPE does not have the capacity to support sound drivers...
Multimedia / Sound support requres more than just the device driver.
Since they won't work, they have been disabled as a selection.
