Topic: OPEN: Windows keep restarting

Hello,

Installation from WinXP Pro SP2 (Dutch) unattended works good.
When I try to integrate drivers with Bashrat driverpacks (all packs), I will be presented with a blue screen and the computer restarts. Safe mode is working.

After puzzling around, I integrated my own RAID drivers into the original WinXP Pro SP2 (Dutch) unattended, and that's is working.

I tried to integrate bashrat driverpacks again (without mass storage/raid drivers), installing (unattended) looks to be ok. But when the computer restarts to load WinXP the loading screen appears for a some seconds an then the computer restarts again.

Is there something I'm doing wrong ?? Somebody got any ideas?

Best regards,

NL President

Yes, post the contents of your BSs!

The whole point of a BS (as opposed to automatic system restart) is to tell you what went wrong or caused an error.
Thefore, it outputs a specific error message that helps you trace the problem back to the faulty component/driver/software.

It's ususally a smart idea to post the BS message here if you want to receive any help wink

Re: OPEN: Windows keep restarting

BS (Blue Screen) is not shown (or to short, I don't see a blink) Windows is just restarting the computer.

The raid drivers from the driverpacks looks not compattible with my raid controller (onboard, Promise Fasttrak133 'lite'). With my own raid drivers supplied with the mainboard (MSI 6380 Ultra ARU) are working correctly.

Anyway can you give me a hint how to freeze (at least try) the screen when a BS appears, because when it was shown to me it was for a very very short time, just enough to see that it's blue can not even read the first word.

Thanks

Re: OPEN: Windows keep restarting

If you can boot in safe mode, you can check the BS in the log (You're dutch so: My Computer: Right Click => Beheren (manage in English?), then you'll get the log from windows)

Or you could turn off the automatic restart

I have the same RAID controller and it seems to work fine with the DP mass storage.

Though, I'm not sure whether I still had the manually added drivers from the manufacturer's HP included when I installed, or not.
I do remember that the driver version appeared to be newer in Windows.

In any case, that might do the trick, if you want to keep the DP MS included.
Just manually (or use nLite) add those specific drivers to your CD and then apply all the DriverPacks.

Please post yur HWIDs, check my sig for a tool!

Re: OPEN: Windows keep restarting

Here are the HWIDS, this done from a installation of windows without drivers installed at all (except original raid drivers).

Hopefully this will give you some information about what might be going wrong.

Thanks again so far I'm going to make a original Windows XP with the MEULC updates (dutch) and look how that will go.

Thanks for the support,

NL President

Re: OPEN: Windows keep restarting

I think it has something todo with installation Method.

Method 1 Installation going well, restart everything working. Only Drivers for soundcard and videocard not installed. Settings from Unattended.sif not correctly applied (Automatic Updats, Screen resolution etc etc).

Method 2 Installation looks to be going allright, only when starting windows (1st time) a blue screen. Computer restarts automaticly, again blue screen and so on.
Starting in Safe mode with Network possible. Looking into the Log files (thanks Maybeme) it looks like something with Newdev.dll

Please let me know what log file you need (setupapi.txt ??)?

This part is coming from the last part of Setupapi.txt (in c:\windows), Oh h*ll Yeah it's in Dutch (have fun wink)

Re: OPEN: Windows keep restarting

About newdev you could read here http://forum.driverpacks.net/viewtopic.php?id=157
I think KB883667 is depending on language. DP has integrated WindowsXP-KB883667-x86-enu.exe and you need something like WindowsXP-KB883667-x86-nld.exe smile

Re: OPEN: Windows keep restarting

On a second thought, could I please see your winnt.sif file, NL President? (Remove your serial and use code tags please.)

Re: OPEN: Windows keep restarting

Sure will see what I can do, didn't have much time for this project. But alway looking for a solution. When I'm at home (hopefully tonight) I will have a look and post the file.

Last week was pretty busy keeping some turbines up and running and had not much time to eat and sleep.

Tonight the story will continue hopefully also unattended,......

OK, no problem smile

Just don't forget to eat and sleep at all! wink

Re: OPEN: Windows keep restarting

I knew it.

Remove these entries and it will work:

[NetAdapters]
    Adapter1=params.Adapter1

[params.Adapter1]
    INFID=*

[NetClients]
    MS_MSClient=params.MS_MSClient

[NetServices]
    MS_SERVER=params.MS_SERVER

    DHCP=No
    IPAddress=192.168.123.2
    SubnetMask=255.255.255.0
    DefaultGateway=192.168.123.254
    DNSServerSearchOrder=192.168.123.254
    WINS=No
    NetBIOSOptions=0

This only results in a restarting system if the NIC for which these options are set is NOT available. Or at least that's what has been concluded from the same problem in the past.

Re: OPEN: Windows keep restarting

So the problem is that the network card is not available?? Strange, these settings I'm using from the beginning with an unattended cd with the original windows xp pro sp2.

A small update from my side:

I took the original Win XP Pro SP 2 cd, integrated (in winnt.sif) the drivers that i found for my hardware (agp card, lan, sound, scanner, printer and so on), everything is working like it should be.
After that I integrated the hotfixes from MEULC and also working normally.

So if I try to understand the problem is it right that the drivers for the network card are not available at the time that the IP settings and other network parameters are applied ??

So if I remove the settings you mentioned above, how can I set my IP settings for the card??

Thanks for the assistance so far,

Thijs Slotboom

Re: OPEN: Windows keep restarting

Well... a user of my DriverPacks found that that was the cause. That was more than a year ago I think. Because this problem only occurs very rarely, I guessed that that must be it. And you have those settings specified in your winnt.sif as well, so...

AFAIK it doesn't happen when the DRIVER is not available, but when the DEVICE is not available.

You could set up your IP settings AFTER setup completes. Would that be a problem?
