Topic: Going insane with my Alienware/Clevo - Somebody PLEASE HELP ME! Need

I have a Clevo D900T which uses a SATA378 controller used in ATA mode (not RAID).

I've tried so many people's suggestions without prevail and i'm on my 10th attempt at making a slipstreamed disc.

I didn't care if it doesn't self install, I just need it to install everything correctly.  While searching for a solution I came across this driverspacks.net website, downloaded the base and every pack except the VGA ones (As I am happy with the video card driver I have).  Slipstreamed it into an original XP Pro with SP2 integrated with no errors detected

The disc boots up inspects my hardware configuration.  I can see the Promise 378 driver go past the screen, but then after all the textmode drivers are loaded, it tells me that there is no hard drive detected!

Can somebody kindly help me out here?  I may seem a little daft at times, but with the right guidance I am sure I can fix this PC.

I desperately need it for my exam period coming up

Re: Going insane with my Alienware/Clevo - Somebody PLEASE HELP ME! Need

There was a large topic about your WinXP Promise SATA378 (tm) IDE Controller.

If i understand correctly the SATA version of your controller driver was deliberatly left out of the driverpacks because it would conflict with the RAID version of your controller driver (WinXP Promise FastTrak 378 (tm) Controller).

What i can see is they both share the same hardwareid's.

This is the topic if am referring to:

Re: Going insane with my Alienware/Clevo - Somebody PLEASE HELP ME! Need

Well, Promise has been working surprisingly well for a very long time (many, many months), but perhaps it's now time to rethink the whole current implementation.

@qik_shift: would it be possible for you to post the HWID of your Promise SATA378 controller? Check my sig for a tool.

Bâshrat the Sneaky, I have posted the results of the program below.  Pleae let me know if there's something esle I can do.  Although my HD is working off the current installation, the rest of the PC is cactus.  I'm really hoping for a reliable install very soon, as I'm tired of stupid errors occurring all the time.

ruudboek, I'll look into that thread now.  Thank you

Well tried again but using RIAD mode.  Windows installs, but then I get a BSOD once it installs.

Looking at the thread given, alot of it has to do with unattended setup, which I'm not concerned about.  I simply want a basic wondows install with a hard drive controller slipstream that works since I don't have a USB floppy.

Do you already have a suggestion on how we can add this driver without causing a conflict?

We'll have to compare his HWID with the ones currently supported by DP MassStorage and compare the "official" driver for his controller with the ones currently included in DP MassStorage.

Re: Going insane with my Alienware/Clevo - Somebody PLEASE HELP ME! Need

I downloaded both the sata and the raid driver.
I compared them:

- hwids are the same.
- sys and cat files are different.
- looking at the .inf's the sata driver is newer then raid driver

I think we have 2 options:

1. Change the date in both inf files so that the date is the same in both inf files. Then add them both to DP masstorage. The question is, will both drivers be loaded without conflict?

2. We merge both inf files and also modify txtsetup do that both sys files are loaded during textmode.
Is this possible?

This was also with the sil3112/ATI driver, i replaced that driver and that worked.

Re: Going insane with my Alienware/Clevo - Somebody PLEASE HELP ME! Need

I have the Alienware version of the same laptop; D900T w/ the 378 controller.

After struggling mightily to get XP reinstalled without a USB floppy I finally found a solution.

1)  Used an XP SP2 CD
2)  Downloaded MassStorage 7.09.2
3)  Followed the tutorial to integrate the MassStorage 7.09.2 driver *only* into XP SP2 install files
4)  Used Nlite to create ISO
5)  Burned with Deepburner
6)  With the 378 in *ATA mode* went through XP set up
7)  Let it reboot once and BSOD
8)  In BIOS enabled *RAID mode*
9)  Hit CTRL-F and created an array in auto-mode being careful *not* to initialize disk
10) Saved changes, rebooted and voila

hi,
can you test this one?

The answer was 42?
Kind regards, Jaak.

Jaak,

Will do.  I'm going to grab another hard drive to preserve my existing image but I'm more than willing to help out.

I'll post results this weekend.

Thanks!

In case that may not be avilable somehow: You can always use an imager to get a 1:1 image copy of your current disk which you can easily put back one in case something goes wrong.
If you haven't installed too much already, that image might easily fit on a DVD or USB stick.
