Topic: [SOLVED] Method 2 Fake Setup ERROR!!! (v7.0.1.2)

Hi all!,
I've created my UnAttended XPCD using method 2 of the driverpacks integrator (default 937). The problem i'm having is when I install XP with driverpacks I get an error at the very beginning of the FAKE SETUP.

This error is:

WINDOWS NO DISK
There is no disk in the drive. Please insert disk into drive

Cancel Try Again Continue

If I click Continue 4 times installation then continues as normal.

I remember having this issue with an old version of the driverpacks (Can't remember what version, I know it was last year (2006) sometime, which was fixed with an updated version of the base pack/DriverPacks)

Does anyone else have the same issue?

Can it be fixed by changing certain entries?

I appreciate all the help on this matter as it is not really an unattended CD if I have to click options during setup.

Thanks in advance

Re: [SOLVED] Method 2 Fake Setup ERROR!!! (v7.0.1.2)

Do you have cardreaders in your  computer?

Re: [SOLVED] Method 2 Fake Setup ERROR!!! (v7.0.1.2)

Hi Muiz3,
Yes. Internal Cardreader.
I haven't had this problem with previous versions of Base Pack/Driverpacks (apart from the 1 mention above (2006))
Version DPs_BASE_6086 - DPs_BASE_612 (No Problems)

Or could this be caused by the new mass-storage pack?

Any Ideas?

Re: [SOLVED] Method 2 Fake Setup ERROR!!! (v7.0.1.2)

tried to disable the cardreader?

Re: [SOLVED] Method 2 Fake Setup ERROR!!! (v7.0.1.2)

Just tried to disable card reader. No way of doing this unless physically removing it.

Why would this be an issue now when all have worked previously without disabling any hardware?

Sorry for being a pain!!!

Re: [SOLVED] Method 2 Fake Setup ERROR!!! (v7.0.1.2)

I have no idea, just trying to help.
I had this problem a while ago, i disabled the cardreader , and it worked.
Unattended and cardreaders isnt a good idea.

Re: [SOLVED] Method 2 Fake Setup ERROR!!! (v7.0.1.2)

Thanks anyway.

I can only assume an entry is either wrong or missing within Packs/Base Pack.

Hopefully this will be fixed in next release.

Thanks for all your help smile smile

No, then you would have gotten a "file X is not found" kind of error.

Chances are very likely that the culprit really is your card reader, as muiz replied. Did you have it connected to your pc during previous installations? As far as I can tell, every single CD/DVD based installation (RIS installations don't suffer from this issue I believe) on a pc with a card reader has failed... Blame the Windows installer, not the DriverPacks.

EDIT:

Ok I didn't read your first post properly. It did succeed after all, and it was not Windows but the fake setup complaining. That sounds like a bad CD... either to scratched or burned too many times (rewritable?).

Hi Bashrat.

All previous builds have worked lovely with cardreader installed. It has only gone like this since using the updated Base pack , MassStorage and Graphics that have recently been released.

I always use a brand new CD/DVD disc, when new versions are released, never trusted a RW for Windows installs.

Re: [SOLVED] Method 2 Fake Setup ERROR!!! (v7.0.1.2)

I'm burning new discs now 1xCD and 1xDVD to see if that is the issue (Just in case)

CD= Windows with driverpacks (No Addons)
DVD= Windows with driverpacks, Addons (RyanVm), and Seperate Application Folder containing all Apps that I install after setup is complete.

Will advise of results once tested.

Re: [SOLVED] Method 2 Fake Setup ERROR!!! (v7.0.1.2)

Back Again.

Just tested new versions of CD and DVD.

Both versions have the same issue described at top post.

Re: [SOLVED] Method 2 Fake Setup ERROR!!! (v7.0.1.2)

Same symptom, only it's happening just running the DPs_BASE.
I'm running Win2KproSP4, HDD's are on an onboard Promise controller, and I have a floppy/card reader combo drive.
When I run the DPs_BASE program, I get the same issue as the first post. It happened when I first ran the program, and then any time I try to browse to a new directory. The program seems to have a hard time finding the HDD's. btw- this also happens with nLite, and RayansVM Integrator. I thought it might be 'cause I'm on 2k, or maybe the Promise controller. Now I hear that it might be an issue with the internal card reader.
I've allready built an UAXP-CD using the current versions and installed to another machine with an onboard Promise controller, but no card reader. Everything went great, no problems.
I'm getting ready to install XP on this machine, so any answers to this issue would be great.

If it ain't broke, you ain't 'FIXED' it enough.

Re: [SOLVED] Method 2 Fake Setup ERROR!!! (v7.0.1.2)

Did you or did you not tried without cardreader???
If not please try that first.

Re: [SOLVED] Method 2 Fake Setup ERROR!!! (v7.0.1.2)

I have tried both ways with and without cardreader.

WITHOUT= Installs with no problems.
WITH= Same issue (as described in 1st post) I do agree with you that it is being caused by cardreader.

I can't get my head around the fact that everything goes ok with previous builds. But as soon as I use Latest versions of Driverpacks & Base I now get this error.

Why would previous builds work ok with NO problems, but using current versions now show this error?

1) Different BIOS settings could have disabled the internal card reader.
2) There is no way I can imagine the installation worked without a problem in the past...

Re: [SOLVED] Method 2 Fake Setup ERROR!!! (v7.0.1.2)

I haven't changed my bios for over a year now.

I have used every driverpack/base released for nearly 2 years. (I always check driverpacks.net on a daily basis)

Previous versions have worked ok

I am sorry if I am causing a nuisance.

Re: [SOLVED] Method 2 Fake Setup ERROR!!! (v7.0.1.2)

trickie69r, well I'm no magician either and I cannot think of any other reason why it would work in the past and now not anymore. I'm sorry.

Nice to hear you've been visiting this site for so long though smile

Re: [SOLVED] Method 2 Fake Setup ERROR!!! (v7.0.1.2)

Clicking 4 times isnt very unattended.
And whats wrong with disabling the cardreader? ( Told you it was the cardreader wink )
Runonce and wpi installs never work with cardreaders  enabled.

Re: [SOLVED] Method 2 Fake Setup ERROR!!! (v7.0.1.2)

Update;
Tried without cardreader and DPs_BASE found my HDD's just fine. Here's the error code that's generated when the cardreader is installed.

Event Type:    Information
Event Source:    Application Popup
Event Category:    None
Event ID:    26
Date:        1/22/2007
Time:        3:59:51 PM
User:        N/A
Computer:    ELBRUTE
Description:
Application popup: DPs_BASE.exe - No Disk : There is no disk in the drive. Please insert a disk into drive \Device\Harddisk3\DR5.

Never seen that type of path before. DPs_BASE was obviously looking at the cardreader. How does DPs_BASE look for the HDD's anyway?

Not a real problem when using DPs_BASE since it'll eventually find my drives. Just have to remember to disconnect the cardreader before installing XP.
If you ever find out why it does this, I would like to know.

btw - Thank's a bunch for all you guys have produced. I'll see if I can float some $$$ your way next payday.

Re: [SOLVED] Method 2 Fake Setup ERROR!!! (v7.0.1.2)

Huh? The DriverPacks BASE doesn't run during setup, so that's impossible.

@ Bâshrat the Sneaky

My problem was happening when I was using the DPs_BASE program.
Seems to happen with nLite and RayansVM also.
Sorry about the confusion.
