Topic: Prompt for manual installation of driver

I don't know if this is a bug or it is normal but i am receiving a prompt to install manually a driver during the installation of windows xp from USB drive.

I am using DriverPacks Base to integrate the mass storage driver pack in my Windows xp source files because otherwise the setup doesn't recognize my internal drives.
I then create a installation USB using the program WinSetupFromUSB and then i try to install windows xp SP3 on laptop Toshiba Satellite. When it reach the stage for start installing devices i receive this message:

"The file 'iaStor.sys' on Intel Matrix Storage Manager Driver is needed"

and i have to manually search for the driver on the usb drive.

It is not a big problem but isn't suppose the setup to install this driver automatically?

Re: Prompt for manual installation of driver

Did you modify your source after DriverPacks were installed?
Can you check to see if iaStor.sy_ is present in %source%\i386\iaStor.sy_

Read BEFORE you post.  HWID tool   DriverPacks Tutorial   DONATE!

Re: Prompt for manual installation of driver

No, i didn't modify the source after the driver packs install.

The driver iaStor.sy_ is present in %source%\i386\iaStor.sy_ directory. There are also these drivers:

IASTOR7.SY_
IASTOR6.SY_
IASTOR3.SY_
IASTOR2.SY_

As you look in the log file am i doing everything correctly when integrating the driver packs?

Re: Prompt for manual installation of driver

Which hardware do you use? Which Toshiba Satellite do you use?

And post the HardwareID list.

Which XP files do you use? Vanilla one or modified?
Are any third party drivers integrated already?

Re: Prompt for manual installation of driver

This is my hardware id list:

My laptop is Toshiba Satellite A205. My source is Windows XP Pro SP3. I have not modify it but it is not original. I have not integrated third party drivers.

I'm wondering if that utility is modifying the source files at all.  I'm at a loss to explain why you're getting that error.

Re: Prompt for manual installation of driver

What other utility can you recommend me? I found this program here:

http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/120444- … -with-gui/

The explanation of the author is that it is related to the newest mass storage driver pack. Also he said this:

Text mode uses iastor7.sys, during PNP detection in GUI mode iastor.inf is read and it references iastor.sys, not iastor7.sys

Re: Prompt for manual installation of driver

Yes, which is why we include both .sys files in each folder. If their utility is removing files or consolidating the folders, they broke it.

Re: Prompt for manual installation of driver

Ok, i will look for some other program to create the installation usb.

Re: Prompt for manual installation of driver

Your posts from MSFN:

It doesn't prompt to the right directory. It shows this path:

C:\\windows\oem\

if i remember correctly.

But when i click OK it doesn't install the driver because i guess the driver is not there. And i have to browse for the driver on the usb drive.

The double-slash is the problem.  Somewhere in their utility they've added an extra slash.  The path should be C:\windows\oem\

Oh BTW, don't use nlite for drivers.  We don't support that.

Re: Prompt for manual installation of driver

I just reinstalled windows because i wasn't sure if there was an extra slash. This is the right path that it shows:

C:\Windows\OemDir

but iaStor driver is not in this directory and this is the reason i guess that it can't install it automatically.

Something else happened during the installation. After formatting the drive, copying the files and restarting a message for Checking file system on U (my usb drive) appeared

and then:

Chkdsk is verifying indexes:

correcting error in index $I30 for file 41...

I don't know if this is related with the iaStor driver.

That's because all the drivers are extracted to C:\D\.
Specifically, C:\D\M\I7\

Re: Prompt for manual installation of driver

Ok, then i just have to browse for the right path when i see the prompt for the iaStor driver during the installation. I thought i am doing something wrong when integrating driver packs or creating the installation usb with WinSetupFromUSB. I guess this is a issue with the WinSetupFromUSB program.

Re: Prompt for manual installation of driver

I couldn't reproduce the problem...

Integrated latest mass storage DP using latest DP Base in unmodified MSDN XP Pro SP3, left default Base options- second method, KTD disabled and Text mode checked. Tested on Dell laptop with Intel ICH7M in AHCI mode.

Used latest WinSetupFromUSB to put everything on a USB disk. Program modifies only, in regards to Bâshrat the Sneaky driver packs, presetup.cmd and path to OEM folder in it to reflect directory structure changes, e.g. \OEM -->\WINSETUP\XPpSP3\OEM

Thought presetup.cmd design might have changed and I missed that, but that's not the case. Since the first version I make sure the program is aware of sources with Bâshrat the Sneaky driver packs integrated.

Text mode used iastor7, GUI mode found iastor in C:\D\M\I7 and installed it automatically, no prompts or anything wrong.

Please ignore the quoted statement above about DP, this issue reminded of a similar one with DPMS, which makes use of Bâshrat the Sneaky mass storage DP and DriverPack_MassStorage_wnt5_x86-32.ini:
http://code.google.com/p/grubutils/issues/detail?id=21

Anyway, if xp_user is interested we can troubleshoot it further, and thanks again for all your work.

Re: Prompt for manual installation of driver

Well I finally got my two 2tb drives in yesterday.  Seagate ST2000DM001.
I used them to build a RAID-1 mirror array, and installed my build of XP Pro with full DriverPacks and the install proceeded without issue.  My Intel RAID controller uses IASTOR7 also.
No problems with these particular drives on that controller.

...just closing that loop...
