Topic: .7z downloads

Can you add the option to download it in a .7z not .torrent? I don't like torrents because they are illegal and full of unscanable viruses.

Re: .7z downloads

Are you willing to pay for the downloads?
Torrents are free, hosted downloads cost money.

Re: .7z downloads

but i get viruses from torrents plus 4shared is free, so you can host files there.

Re: .7z downloads

Illegal warez torrents are full of viruses yes, but there are good torrents also (linux distros, updates, etc.)
Our torrent downloads are 100% clean.

Re: .7z downloads

Our Torrents can be verified by checking the MD5 checksums provided on our website... they are verifiable as our original work.

We had direct downloads at one time they were donated by generous CDN providers. They decided that the ROI on us was not good enough (no conversion). We routinely use about 10~20 Gigabytes a month of bandwith. Users are greedy they want to download the packs for free but are unwilling to donate or to purchase services from our sponsors. the bandwith we use would cost over $1000.00 USD a month. That a lot more money per month than we recieve in donations in a years time.  No "free" service allows that much bandwith for free... check it out for yourself. they all will pull the links when you exceed a predefined data limit, or charge you.

Torrents are the only way we can deliver hundreds of thousands of downloads per month for free. Unless you want to buy our bandwith.

Re: .7z downloads

A torrent download per se is neither illegal nor full of viri.
It depends, as with all things, on the content.
As they are provided by us, they are of course not illegal. Even if, the illegality would not stem from the fact they are torrents. Torrents are just a special form of offering downloads, no more, no less.

As for "unscanable viruses", of course you can scan them. You just have to finish downloading them, first, as you would have to do with .7zs, too (in fact, once the DL is finished, you will end up with a .7z file anyhow, so no difference there...).
Rest assured that downloads presented on our site are of course as clean as possible!

Re: .7z downloads

If you are concerned about the possibility of viruses (like many common-sense-minded people), scan the download link with VirusTotal; use "Submit a URL".

I scanned the WinNT5 MassStorage v11.09 here --> https://www.virustotal.com/url-scan/rep … 1318827737
Click "View Downloaded File Analysis" here --> https://www.virustotal.com/file-scan/re … 1318834947

Clean as an ultrasonically-cleaned whistle.  End of controversy, that is unless someone scans the rest & finds one. big_smile
