Re: [SLVD] Blue screen with MassStorage 11.07

inaccessible boot device?  intel trusted platform?  AHCI?  two bays for SSD/HDD's?  RAID?  hmm.... BIOS update could have updated RAID/AHCI BIOS (& vid BIOS)  fresh install? no backup needed? not a critical-infrastructure device?

mind you these next web links are for the North American support, so your own country's support page may differ (the hardware may differ too, be double-sure & be forewarned)

firmware update for SSD's? http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloa … D=DS013805

curious; a quote from lenovo's intel matrix storage manager page:http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloa … D=DS000795

A Blue Screen error will come up on the Windows preload when these models boot with "Compatible" mode instead of "AHCI" that is modified from the BIOS Setup/ Config/Serial SATA menu. This is caused by an absence of a compatible driver on the Windows preload. Stay "AHCI" mode when you boot Windows preload.

further, it explains how to install xp:

NOTE: If you select AHCI for Serial ATA (SATA) in the BIOS Setup Utility before installing Intel Matrix Storage Manager Driver, your computer will not respond; it will only display a blue screen.

    Power off the computer.
    Power on the computer.
Press the F1 key to enter the BIOS Setup Utility when the ThinkPad logo is seen on the screen. The BIOS Setup Utility menu will be displayed. If a password prompt appears, type the correct password.
    Select Config.
    Select Serial ATA (SATA).
    Select Compatibility.
Press the F10 key to save the new setup, and then select Yes.
    Restart the computer.
Install Windows XP and Service Pack 2.
Download Intel Matrix Storage Manager Driver from the Web site and extract the driver to C:\DRIVERS\WIN\IMSM.
    Go to C:\DRIVERS\WIN\IMSM\PREPARE, and double-click install.cmd.
Power off and on the computer.
Press the F1 key to enter the BIOS Setup Utility when the ThinkPad logo is seen on the screen. The BIOS Setup Utility menu will be displayed. If a password prompt appears, type the correct password.
    Select Config.
    Select Serial ATA (SATA).
    Select AHCI.
Press the F10 key to save the new setup, and then select Yes. The computer will reboot and Windows XP will start.
The "Welcome to the Found New Hardware Wizard" appears. Click No, not this time, and then click Next.
Select Install from a list or specific location (Advanced), and then click Next.
Select Search for the best driver in these locations. Then select Include this location in the search:, specify the path, C:\DRIVERS\WIN\IMSM, and click Next. The "Completing the Found New Hardware Wizard" appears.
    Click Finish.
When the "System Settings Change" window appears, click Yes. The computer restarts.

DP MassStorage 11.07

Well that confirms the new RST drivers are working! smile
Otherwise you'd get a BSOD during first boot, not after install.
I found this happened to me on my wife's new Lenovo notebook because I had too many Third Party DriverPacks integrated.
Once the install completed (T-36 to T-34 happened in a few seconds), I got a BSOD because the AHCI driver never got installed.

Remove all but the most essential Third Party DriverPacks (1 or 2 max) and try again.  The webcam and monitor Third Party DriverPacks are terrible for filepath length.  I'm fixing webcam now but it's still really bad.
SAD2 for Third Party DriverPacks is the future!

Re: [SLVD] Blue screen with MassStorage 11.07

OK I have tried MassStorage 11.04 and the same results as 11.07

also tried MassStorage 11.01 and the same again but the last disc I made on 25 April 2011 with the latest driverpacks at the time worked but the ATI Graphics did not work but separate issue I hope new DP Graphics works though

So problem must be in another DP

Why does this seem to happen at the worst time ?

Re: [SLVD] Blue screen with MassStorage 11.07

It worked without 3rd party driverpacks except ATI Runtimes so the problem is with the 3rd party driver packs not MassStorage

Re: [SLVD] Blue screen with MassStorage 11.07

Yep, as I suspected.  As a general rule you should only include the Third Party DriverPacks that are "required" by the main DriverPacks (ie. Graphics Languages, Runtimes & PhysX) and MAYBE one other.
All others should be installed using SAD or SAD2 post install.  SAD2 is not limited by the file/folder path length bug, so ALL DriverPacks can be installed via SAD2 (only a few graphics/sound drivers have problems with the utility).
Long gone are the days we could just include every pack on the disc and call it good.
Marking as "Solved".

Re: [SLVD] Blue screen with MassStorage 11.07

I made a disc 25 April 2011 with current driverpacks at the time and it works

but with same driverpacks updated on 02 August 2011 now the path issue comes up

Maybe some path shortening also the monitor pack needs an update and broken hauppage hvr-900 driver in TV pack

The driver packs that were updated since 25 April 2011 are

Re: [SLVD] Blue screen with MassStorage 11.07

Yes, the WebCam Third Party DriverPack needs aggressive folder shortening.  I just don't have the time.
If you eliminate the WebCam pack from that lineup, I'll bet that your install will work fine.

As a reminder, the Third Party DriverPacks are "community-built" packs.  So people like you can update them and repost them for others.
The DriverPacks Team will periodically "finalize" them and upload to the main distribution server every 6-12 months.
It's not up to the Main Team to update all the Third Party DriverPacks.  I only update the few that I use (HID, Misc, WebCam) and only when I have spare time (rarely).
