Topic: [SLVD] dpms 11.06 for ICH8R(DO) Raid cause 0x0000007B BSOD

Hi DP Team

Struggling with a HW platform to run Windows 2003 Server R2. (always ending in 0x0000007B blue screen)
I boot from a XP-PE USB Stick and the Mass Storage driver works fine at this stage.

Files are added to the HDD in the Target system from a server,
then the system reboot and after showing press F6 to add SCSI and RAID devices the system ending with 0x0000007B blue screen.
(If i Press F6 and add the driver from floppy it still blue screen, using the same floppy/driver as on a clean install from CD)

I Use DPsBASE ver10.06 Mass Storage Ver11.06 (until today i used Mass Storage Ver10.06 that fail the same way)

I built a XP with all the same DP's and everything is OK then. So the problem is only for Server 2003 R2.
I have also done exactly the same before for 2003 Server R2 with other raid systems without the blue screen.

I have the HW to test on if you have any experimental pack version(s) for me try out and report back.

Windows Server 2003 R2 HWid's from clean install from CD and F6 floppy work OK.

Re: [SLVD] dpms 11.06 for ICH8R(DO) Raid cause 0x0000007B BSOD

According to the Intel documentation, the new 10.5 RST drivers do not support Win2k3, but the older 10.1 drivers do.
10.5 RST link here:
10.1 RST link here:

I'll look into it more and post a link to a test pack hopefully soon.

Re: [SLVD] dpms 11.06 for ICH8R(DO) Raid cause 0x0000007B BSOD

Hi mr_smartepants

Thanks for the experimental pack.
I am sorry to say that i get the same result.
XP ok and Windows 2003 server Blue Screen 07B.

Installing from CDROM and using the driver from I8 and I9 manually with F6 works ok.
When choosing "Intel(R) Desktop/Workstation/Server Express Chipset SATA RAID Controller" from TXTSETUP.OEM

Any idea what to do next ?

What the h*ll is that?!?
So which driver are you installing from F6-floppy?

Re: [SLVD] dpms 11.06 for ICH8R(DO) Raid cause 0x0000007B BSOD

I think that driver is for loopback plugs, we used to use "CheckIt" back in the day we had loopbacks for the serial and parallel ports. Checkit would test the output connectors of the serial port to it's input through the loopbacks. We could be certain that the hardware was operating properly. I imagine it's a similar tool used to verify USB ports.

big_smile

the passmark loopbacks prolly verify the ports works and gives a speed test.

Re: [SLVD] dpms 11.06 for ICH8R(DO) Raid cause 0x0000007B BSOD

I'm wondering if it's the Jmicron drivers causing your problems.
I'm also confused on how you're installing the OS.

So you're not using a USB/disc-based install?  You're using a server-based RIS method?
When does the system blue-screen?  At what point?
Does the install complete without adding any drivers?  Does a SAD2-based driver install work post-install?

Re: [SLVD] dpms 11.06 for ICH8R(DO) Raid cause 0x0000007B BSOD

Sorry for late reply, been on vacation.

OverFlow: you are correct the "DP_MoxaSerial_2PassMarkUSBLoopback_wnt5_x86-32_140408.7z" is loopback driver to be used with Passmark Burnin Test. Moxa is a serialboard drivers.

mr_smartepants:
So which driver are you installing from F6-floppy
I success with original server 2003 CD with both I8 and I9 found in DP and placed on a F6-floppy (tested each separately)

mr_smartepants:
1. I'm wondering if it's the Jmicron drivers causing your problems.
Agree this might cause problems, but disabling it in Bios do not help sad
And for Win XP there is no problem, only Server 2003....

2. I'm also confused on how you're installing the OS.
I understand this is not the most common way to do it, but i have done this for years.

3. So you're not using a USB/disc-based install?  You're using a server-based RIS method?
I boot from a USB stick with XP WinPE with implemented networking and SCSI/RAID support. Then connect to a server, where the actual install is run from.

What i am able to do is boot from the USB Stick and have access to the disk without problems.
Then i start the pre-install from a server/network share. The disk is partitioned and formatted OK.
Then the Windows pre-install files are copied to the system OK and system restarts.

4. When does the system blue-screen?  At what point?
After the system has reboot as described above in 3. the (Blue) Windows Setup starts
After showing press F6 to add SCSI and RAID devices the system ending with 0x0000007B blue screen.
(Also same thing if i now press F6 and try to add a driver that works from 2003 Server CD install with F6-Floppy as working like described above)

5. Does the install complete without adding any drivers?
If not adding any drivers i also get blue screen

6. Does a SAD2-based driver install work post-install?
Have not been able to check yet.

Re: [SLVD] dpms 11.06 for ICH8R(DO) Raid cause 0x0000007B BSOD

That sounds like a convoluted install to me.  You might be better off with an image-based install by using Offline-sysprep.
So, just to eliminate your method from the equation, can you try a traditional disc-based install?  Just use a standard 2003 disc, copy to a folder on the desktop, integrate dpms via DriverPacks BASE using the defaults (check dpms and txtmode), then build the .iso and burn to cdrw or dvd-rw and try that.  I just want to ensure that dpms works on your hardware and not being fouled by your install method.

Re: [SLVD] dpms 11.06 for ICH8R(DO) Raid cause 0x0000007B BSOD

Did as you said and tested with the disc based install (checked DriverPack MassStorage and txtmode).
Well the install starts, and i can see that different disk controller files are loaded to the system
Setup is loading files (...)

Then i end up with this screen.

Windows Server 2003, Standard Edition Setup
---------------------------------------------------
Setup did not find any hard disk drives installed in your computer.
Make sure any hard disk drives are power on and properly connected
to your computer, and that any disk-related hardware configuration is
correct. This may involve running a manufacturer-supplied diagnostic
or setup program.
Setup cannot continue. To quit Setup, press F3.

I think this is the same as i ended up with in pt. 5 in my last post. (not a blue screen as i wrote)

So i also did a F6-Floppy test with the disc based install (with Mass Storage 11.06)
When choosing "Intel(R) Desktop/Workstation/Server Express Chipset SATA RAID Controller" from TXTSETUP.OEM
I ended up with the same message as above.
Setup did not find any hard disk drives installed in your computer.

Created another DVD with Mass Storage 11.07 when i found that it was available.
Booted and a lot more drivers was loaded. Nice, keep up the good work smile
Unfortunately I ended up with the same message as above.
Setup did not find any hard disk drives installed in your computer.

Re: [SLVD] dpms 11.06 for ICH8R(DO) Raid cause 0x0000007B BSOD

OK, well now we're making progress.  Having no drives detected is much better than a BSOD.  The BSOD must be caused by something you're doing to the install process, not DriverPacks.
Hopefully I'll get some time to work out a solution (next week) if someone else doesn't beat me to it.

Re: [SLVD] dpms 11.06 for ICH8R(DO) Raid cause 0x0000007B BSOD

OK, I need to know what controller your drives are connected to.
When windows setup DOES see the drives, the controller is named in brackets; [jraid] is Jmicron controller, [iastor*] is Intel controller.
What does yours say?

From the jmicron release notes:

// [Notice]
// JMB36X driver got logo of Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7 since R1.17.49WHQL.

I'm interpreting that as the Jmicron drivers don't work in a server environment.  Can someone prove me wrong?

Re: [SLVD] dpms 11.06 for ICH8R(DO) Raid cause 0x0000007B BSOD

just as a side note...

if you are doing RIS based setup perhaps consider AutoImage by RogueSpear.. it is no longer updated or supported by him but is quite solid and works beautifully with DriverPacks... the forum is still on line and the downloads are still available. Also it is something we are familiar with big_smile.

Re: [SLVD] dpms 11.06 for ICH8R(DO) Raid cause 0x0000007B BSOD

I was able to locate an old DP_MassStorage version: DP_MassStorage_wnt5_x86-32_805.7z
With this i was able to install the system without problems at all.

Now I'm able to install either Intel Matrix 7.6.0.1011 or Intel Rapid Storage Technology 10.6.0.1002 if i want.

Thanks a lot for all support.
Finally it's solved for me smile
