Topic: Intel SATA Driver Needed

Hi, I've built a UBCD4Win CD and have found that a driver update is needed to support Intel SATA controllers.  I've had to download and add a specific driver for both my desktop and laptop machines.  Is it possible to have this included in the next release of driverpacks, net?

Intel Rapid Storage 5 Series 6 Port SATA AHCI Controller.

Win XP Driver Version 9.6.0.1014

Applicable to Dell Vostro Notebook - 3400, 3300, 3500, 3700 (and desktops)

Dell driver: R271949

Re: Intel SATA Driver Needed

Try current DriverPacks first.

Backup folder plugin\DriverPacks.net, delete folder plugin\DriverPacks.net

Follow section "All versions of BartPE"

Re: Intel SATA Driver Needed

Thanks for the help.  I have driver packs base installed.  I'm told everything is up to date when I run it.   I downloaded the mass storage pack and tried to slip stream it.  It is recognized in the base app and also show's up to date.  When I slip stream it does not create a mass storage folder in plugin\DriverPacks.Net.  The plugin\driverpacks.net only has the BASE folder in it.  Any ideas?

Also, is there a way I can get all the latest driver packs in one download?

That version is in the current release, but it has been removed in the current testing builds because RST 10.1 and 10.5 replace it completely.

Re: Intel SATA Driver Needed

Yes,I followed the instructions.  BASE is installed, works and see the mass storage pack.  Slip stream deletes the old folder if there and I agree.  In all cases it does not create a new folder.  Here's the log:

Re: Intel SATA Driver Needed

OK, good news.  The new MassStorage pack worked.  UBCD had V9.  I no longer need the Dell SATA drivers.  Thanks.

No, if you want the pack selected, you pick "yes".  The reason dpms is set to "no" by default is because in PE the drivers aren't getting installed.  Only the txtmode is used.  The network module uses the LAN.inf and WLAN.inf to start the network once booted into PE.  dpms doesn't work like that, nor is it needed.

Re: Intel SATA Driver Needed

you don't have to modify anything manually... You simply did not select mass storage text mode from the GUI...

PLEASE LOOK AT / REFERENCE FIGURE 2 IN THE TUTORIAL big_smile

Since you did not select "mass storage text mode" you effectively told DriverPacks BASE to remove mass storage, and it did. GIGO (garbage in garbage out)

PS  YOU ALSO FAILED THE VERY FIRST LINE OF THE INSTRUCTIONS

"Extract / install the DriverPacks Base program to a folder that IS NOT in your plugin folder - IE C:\DPsBase\"

from your log:
2011-05-23 07:37:00 : <CLNP> Create a DPs_Base.log backup @ C:\Dev\UBCD4Win\UBCD4Win\plugin\DriverPacks.net\BASE...

Clearly IN the plugin folder, contrary to the tutorial.

PSS Alternately you could have configured (added) Mass storage from PeBuilder plugins page as described in the lower part of the tutorial. The part that follows the line:

" Run UBCD4WINBUILDER.EXE or PEBuilder.exe and open the "plugins" page. "

AKA How to properly run BASE as a plugin ~ that is to say when you want to run BASE from within in the plugin folder structure

NOTE: It's better to do a "clean install" by installing DriverPacks BASE in a a folder that   IS NOT   in UBCD4Win and allowing BASE to completely remove the plugin and create a new one big_smile.

There is no Base included in UBCD4Win currently. Back then there was a update in advance and old Base was not included.
Hence you have to download current Base first.

Re: Intel SATA Driver Needed

cdob, I did install it outside the plugiun folder.  I posted a working log file not the original.  The base install of the app failed with the error dialog "there are not yet any slipstream modules available for the selected platform".   Once I got it to run it created a BASE folder in the plugin folder and I used that install to try and unpack.  That's how it ended up in the log as you pointed out.  Its not that I installed it there.

When I ran DriverPack config from the plugin folder it deleted all the driver pack folders and didn't recreate them so I stopped using that.  As it turns out a proper configuration would have worked but until I had that I didn't trust the plugin config route.

The mass storage driver pack is in the Driver Packs folder and it shows up as "up to date" on the pack select screen.  Without manually modifying the ini file there wasn't any text mode option to select.   Believe me, I wanted to select text mode but couldn't.

So you can clearly see that I followed your instructions and tried to make this work as planed.  The mistake I made was to not to browse for the PE  install location.  I missed the "On the location page (see fig1) Select BartPE and "Browse" to your Plugin folder. " step and that caused all kinds of havoc.

I hope this clears things up.
