Topic: [SLVD] persistent BSoD since 10.06 to 11.01

I'm creating my own unattended version of win xp pro.
I get a blue screen of death (BSoD) with code 0x0004.
The problems comes out just after the first reboot and the unpacking of 7z driverpacks archive, just before the screen in which it uses to install the "true addons".

1) I've tested all the stages until the driverpacks integration and they all work fine.
2) I'm using VirtualBox for testing. Never tried on hardware.
3) The installation has no problem if it goes on an IDE system instead of SATA. So, The error is linked to the mass storage. I'm using 11.01; same problem with the previous version.
4) I've the same blue screen also with a clean install (no true addons or removal of components; only regular hotfixes).

I've had problems also with 10.06 in http://forum.driverpacks.net/viewtopic.php?id=4650.
I'm wondering if someone could help. I would like to use newer mass driver one of these days.

Re: [SLVD] persistent BSoD since 10.06 to 11.01

OK, If you're certain that dpms 9.01 works for you, then I know what to fix.

Fixed for next release:

Fixed
- I3\ moved .ini HWID (PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2829&CC_0106) from [I8] to fix BSOD (requested here: http://forum.driverpacks.net/viewtopic.php?id=5159)

Personally I think you should test your .iso on your own hardware that's causing the problem first (not just VB).  A BSOD on actual hardware would confirm the problem, and solution.

Please test this dpms.

Re: [SLVD] persistent BSoD since 10.06 to 11.01

I've tested my .iso on real hardware. It does not work but not in the same way as in virtualbox.
It can't even get to "partition selection screen" and, while loading drivers, it says there's an error in setup.c showing a strange path "D:\xpsp\base...".
((need some screenshots?))
Okay. I'm wondering if it is completely my fault, but I've done the unattending/driverpacking process SeveraL time and using two different original XP disks.

I'm a bit dazed.
I am gonna test the beta right now.

Re: [SLVD] persistent BSoD since 10.06 to 11.01

Sounds like your .iso has issues that need fixing BEFORE you introduce DriverPacks.

Re: [SLVD] persistent BSoD since 10.06 to 11.01

I know. But... I had used the same XP installation cd (with further improvements) for years until now. It worked until massstorage 9.01. And still the installation goes fine if not involving sata drivers.
I've tried another original XP disc. Same problem two disks. So, maybe the problem is related to other software used: nLite.
I get the same problems with natural installs (no hotfixes, addons or removal; just service packs).
What shall I fix now? I've tried everything.

Anyway, I've tried the beta v11.03b1
Both on the natural install (no hotfixes, addons or removal; just service packs) and the unattended one, it say it cannot find nvatabus2.sys

Re: [SLVD] persistent BSoD since 10.06 to 11.01

DrLo wrote:

Now that is VERY odd because I can see it in the pack.

Try opening your txtsetup.sif in notepad and (ctrl-h) replacing 'all' of:
nvatabus2.sys
with
NvAtaBus2.sys

I don't think the system is acting case-sensitive, but it's worth a shot.

Re: [SLVD] persistent BSoD since 10.06 to 11.01

So what happens when you use a plain, original, hologramed, vanilla XP (NO nlite!) disc and add DriverPacks?  Mass Storage doesn't care what SP level the XP disc is.

Re: [SLVD] persistent BSoD since 10.06 to 11.01

Hey, guys, FINALLY FIGURED OUT!
Enterily fault of my trust in nLite. I used to make nlite create the bootable .iso from my unattended xp folder.
I had some doubts and I tried to create the .iso myself with mkisofs cmd-line (and an el torito image of the vanilla .iso) -> All Working Fine.

D:\prg\nLite-1.4.9.1>mkisofs -b image1.bin -no-emul-boot -boot-load-seg 1984 -boot-load-size 4 -iso-level 2 -J -l -D -N -joliet-long -relaxed-filenames -o "D:\a.iso" D:\AF\01e

I am wondering: I was the only one having this problem with nLite (latest version)? Anyway, fixed.

Now, how can I ever be forgiven? I've integrated the beta massstorage pack you gave me. So, I can contribute to the feedback. Tell me how.

Re: [SLVD] persistent BSoD since 10.06 to 11.01

DrLo wrote:

100 LASHES! And pledge your everlasting loyalty to the almighty DriverPacks! big_smile
Just kidding...

Seriously though, this is exactly why I gave up on using nlite for anything.  It was a good tool for hand-holding when creating unattended installs, but you really need to learn to walk on your own without nlite.  You'll be much happier.  I stick purely with RVMi and modifying files by hand.  It's the only way to be sure.

So the new beta 11.03b1 dpms works fine on your hardware?  THAT'S what I really need to know.

Re: [SLVD] persistent BSoD since 10.06 to 11.01

Sorry, I've just noticed my previous msg was not sent. Anyway, it worked!
I've only just foundn slow the runonce part of the installation, but I guess it's not driverpacks related. Good job.

Re: [SLVD] persistent BSoD since 10.06 to 11.01

OK, thank you for reporting back.
I'll include these fixes into a new dpms build I'm working on and hopefully I'll have a RC for public testing very soon.

Again, thanks for reporting the problem and confirming the fixes.  Your testing has made DriverPacks better! smile

Re: [SLVD] persistent BSoD since 10.06 to 11.01

I experienced this issue also in VirtualBox.  When testing it on my laptop, however, I never noticed it.  I, too, was also using nLite to generate the autounattended settings and make the ISO.  I will try your alternative way and see if the issue goes away in VirtualBox.

Thanks
