Topic: [SLVD] Acer Aspire 5515 Laptop - AMD AHCI. Need Help pls.

Trying to install XP on it, but nothing seems to work on this.
Always a BSOD.
The machine basic info:
AMD Athlon 2650e processor
AMD RS690MC/SB600 Chipset
ATI Radeon Xpress 1200 Graphics.
I'm more interested on get the sata working to begin with.
Well, I've tried the floppy method using diff versions of AHCI as well latest driverspack and nlite. No luck.
The computer still has Vista running and I've managed to find the original ahcix86s.cat,ahcix86s.INF and ahcix86s.sys on a special folder containing all drivers.
Analysing them I've found the reason why all the others AMD AHCI drivers wont work: my device id is not in none of them, but the original one.
I've tried to edit driverspack and removing "AMD 3" from it and putting mine, but my knowledge is limited and I'm missing something.
Any chance you guys include my config in your next update?
I can provide those files I've mentioned earlier, if they can help. They seem to be a customized version of ahci, and even the files have a different name from the default w/ the "s".
Also I have the registry keys containing the SATA parameters.

We Add drivers when they are repoerted as missing by a user who provides the links to them.

We can not find drivers for you...

because we do not have the hardware to test to see if they work...
If you find the driver please provide a link to the OEM site.
(not rapid share or other third party host)
Then update your Title to [REQ] and we will then see if it can be added.

except for the HWID and you could have put that on a single line wink

Please pay particular attention to "Read BEFORE you post" number 4

ALWAYS include in your post
- DPs_BASE.log (from the same directory as DPs_BASE.exe)

that will provide most of the missing info i pointed out above
(and is why it must ALWAYS be included)

Back to the source (AMD/ATI websiste) I've managed to obtain the newest RAID drivers package for Windows XP.
The .exe file contains a couple of the AHCI drivers inside it, namely v2.500.1540.47 and v3.1.1540.81 (each one in 64 and x86 versions)among other ones.
I've found funny the fact that inside the archive there are multiple files w/ the same name, but in diff versions and all in the root folder.
Carefully I've managed to separate and organize each each file. After matching all I've built the two complete sets, each one w/ 32 and 64 bits drivers.
My hardware id was only present on version 3.1.1540.81 and I've decide to use it and built a floppy to use the F6 method.
Worked perfectly and finally I was able to reach the point when Windows XP setup recognized my harddisk. No errors messages, no BSOD.
Well, I believe I'm the first one to achieve this. Everybody installed XP using IDE emulation on the Bios. They said was impossible to find the right driver for this AMD Sata chipset w/ Windows XP.
My success is the proof that is possible to install XP using AHCI mode/F6 method.
I hope my efforts will help other users of the Aspire 5515 to downgrade from Vista to XP.

Note: Yesterday morning I downloaded and used the version 9.1.
Now, the version avaliable for download is 9.2 and the .exe contains inside the exact same drivers, but they are properly organized in individual folders):

$HWNDPARENT\RAID7xx\ > contains the drivers version 3.1.1540.81 -> the one I used, w/ the matching hardware id for my Acer.
$HWNDPARENT\RAID\ > contains the drivers version 2.500.1540.47

Also, the package contains 2 other sets of drivers from AMD/ATI, namely:
SATARaid, "Silicon Image SiI 3x12 SATARaid Driver Installation Disk",
SRAID64a, "Silicon Image SiI 3x12 SATARaid Driver Installation Disk", (64-bit Extended)

I hope this info has some value and maybe those drivers can be included on the next driverspack mass storage update.

Zeca61's pointer to the driver isn't working any more, but I found another one by googling the driver version.

I have a client's Aspire 5517 that has the same problem. Vista shows the driver name as ahcix86s.sys but using the ahcix86.sys from the 3.1.1540.81 driver set works fine.

In my case, the HWID was a little different : PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_4391&SUBSYS_028D1025&REV_00\3&2411E6FE&0&88
but it works like a champ if I F6 my UBCD and use that driver with this HWID added to the txtsetup.oem file.

I'm using Driver base 8.12.5, with Mass storage 9.01. It would be Super if I could get this new HWID added for this driver. I'm assuming from the previous entry, that you HAVE the drivers, so I haven't included them with this post. Let me know if you need them.

I would have posted the DPBASE.log but I can't see that there is anything you really need in there. Assuming you arelady have this in beta, only the HWID needs to be added to the list. FWIW, the ahcix86.sys driver doesn't appear in my list in 9.01, so hopefully it's there with a later release.

I have an Acer Aspire 5516 (I'm assuming it's some kinda relative to the 5515 and 5517 models) and I fixed my AHCI problems by using the latest UNRELEASED Mass Storage pack (DP_MassStorage_wnt5_x86-32_909r6.7z) as this seems to have the driver needed to boot this puppy when the BIOS is set to AHCI mode.

This laptop is an AMD TF-20 64-bit CPU with 2GB RAM, purchased at Best Buy on sale for a measly $279 plus tax. It is NOT a great performer, has no webcam, but it DOES have onboard ATI video which seems better than that Intel poopoo that came on my other Acer (6930).

Details aside, I sweated for a LONG time trying to locate a driver, so THANK YOU to the DriverPacks Crew for having my back covered. Now YOU know where to get what you need!

Thanks. As you can see, the one HWID I posted for the 5517 isn't found in your list and it's the one that's killing any chance of booting with these newer units. I have an HP with a KSOD situation that's doing the same thing and I suspect it has the same controller.

raid devices and compatable hwid info is not included... can we see the ouput of the current HWIDs tool>?

Acer Aspire 5310-2721 does not have SATA Driver. Am using latest version of all driverpacks up to RIGHT NOW wink

There you select Notebook, then Aspire, then model 5310. The Sata drivers are just below in the list.

That's not a valid driver download link.  We only use drivers from the vendor source.

The addition of AM0 to the 10.09 Mass Storage pack causes my hard drive to no longer be detected by setup when BIOS is set to AHCI Mode. This is on a Gigabyte MA78GM-US2H motherboard with matching HWID for that driver.  Previous pack 10.06, or commenting out AM0 (or skip if wxp) in 10.09 both work fine.  I checked the Gigabyte driver download page for this motherboard, and the driver (in AM0) is not offered for XP, although it does show up in the list for use with Windows 7, so maybe it does not belong in XP pack?

Since I was reinstalling anyway, I "updated" to this driver in a working XP installation to see if it would even install, got the "not signed" warning, went ahead away, and upon restart just got the ol' no boot/reboot loop.  I tried replacing files within AM0 with copies of 1.2.0.125 that I found while researching, but all resulted in the "amdxata.sys is corrupt" message, or similar, when attempting setup.

I am using Base 10.06 and this relates to Mass storage pack 10.09 for XP - HWID info below

Yes, we know.  I fixed this exact same problem in the latest dpms test pack.

The update in your test packs (AM9) in the other thread solve my problem as well.
Drive is detected during setup (ahcix869,) and driver ahcix86.sys version 3.2.1548.37 shows installed in Device Manager.
