Topic: [SLVD] DP_Sound_A Realtek Issue (In work)

I was using the DriverPack Sound A nightly to do a test on a machine and ran into an interesting issue.  Using base 8.12.5, Disk Integration for Windows XP SP3 with only DP_Sound_A_wnt5_x86-32_911b1.7z and DP_Sound_B_wnt5_x86-32_91204.7z loaded the sound didn't work.

I checked device manager and the Realtek High Definition Audio said it was installed fine "This is working properly" under Device status (on the general tab).  I went into control panel under Sounds and Audio Devices and it said at the Top "No Audio Device" and all the buttons were grayed out.

I downloaded the driver from Gateway's site using the link below, and it worked.  It's unsigned, but seems to work just fine.

I can do some testing like I did in this post http://forum.driverpacks.net/viewtopic.php?id=4290 with HWID pruning, and creating a new folder if you'd like, but just thought I'd report the issue.

I just verified that it also happens with the DP_Sound_A_wnt5_x86-32_1001b1.7z nightly pack as well.  Let me know if you'd like me to try anything else.

You've been using the testing builds, but you don't have access to the testing team forums.  As such, you're not aware of our discussion of this very problem.

Added Realtek 244 to the list of broken drivers. sad
I'm testing a theory of including the older (but working) 227 drivers as well as 244 (and newer) but intentionally breaking the digital signing of select 244 .inf files to force selection of the older driver.

I have seen a strange issue with RealTek driver too with assembled machine using Mercury P4VM800M mother board. Unfortunately I couldn't download the drivers from the site due to server issue via http://www.mercury-pc.com/product-detai … uctid=643# but do have drivers on the harddisk. I have setup WindowsXPSP3 with latest drivers i.e  DriverPack Sound A 1003 and DriverPack Sound B 1003 it detected correctly installed perfectly. Then I wanted to setup Windows 2003 SP2 for testing purposes with the same sound drivers (well I changed the VGA drivers to the latest for Windows 2003SP2 but other than that everyting is same) on the same machine in a different partition  a window poped up saying about unsigned Realtek driver and I accidentally pressed a key on the key board (as it was late night) and the driver didn't get installed.

Issue occurred on Windows 2003 SP2

Before installing correct drivers HWID's is as follows

We're currently testing 10.04rc1.  Hopefully we'll get enough reports back to finalize this month.  If not, this will be a 10.05 release.

Just tested the new BASE 10.06 with all current driverpacks (including Sound A and B 10.06)
No drivers for my audio..

I tried installing with the NEC supplied drivers, which gave a non descriptive error
I downloaded the drivers straight from Realtek, they gave me an error number.

Installation with the realtek driver installer now works

But still no dice, Device manager reports the hardware is installed, control panel says no audio device is present

Sorry to be so vocal about this.. I'm new to this slipstreaming stuff
Might have something to do with the (apparently) infamous 888111 audio hotfix, which I can't install on SP3.
I'll try slipstreaming the hotfix with nLite and report back (but don't hesitate to chime in if you have another idea smile)

OK, first things first.  KB888111 is already integrated into SP3 so no need to slipstream it separately.
So after XP install with the current DriverPack Chipset & Sound A packs, what is the driver version that is installed for your Realtek device?
It SHOULD be: 6/16/2009    5.10.0.5874

That device is directly supported in DriverPack Sound A by two versions:
\D\S\R\HDARt.inf
\D\S\R2\HDARt.inf

Please re accomplish the install, and do NOT disable any services or other drivers.

That is indeed what I read, I also came across some posts mentioning this does not really work, unless you hotfix SP2 before installing SP3.
After updating the drivers of microsoft UAA bus driver with the extracted files from KB888111 I was able to install the audio device using the latest HD audio driver from Realtek.

These extracted drivers also work when they are slipstreamed using nLite. DP doesn't install the realtek driver, manual install works

I have been disabling stuff through nLite but this installation image runs fine on most computers I tested it on.

I'm going to try and create a custom driver pack with the realtek drivers (and the graphics drivers) to see what happens there.

slipstreaming the unpacked "comonfiles" folder from the extracted 888111 hotfix via nLite drivers in to my XP SP3 source and then adding a custom driverpack containing the latest HD realtek drivers (as well as those for the video card btw) solved my issue.

I'd be willing to do more testing or provide more info if it can help you guys.

did you try adding your custom pack without slipstreaming the KB888111 files?

I am sure that is not neccessary...

If it is then i belive your xp sp3 source is not slipstreamed correctly...
Do you have an OEM SP3 disc or did you slipstream sp3... How did you slipstream sp3 if you did?

the KB888111 included in SP3 works just fine, all of us are not haveing to do any extra steps to support sound... (tens of thousands of installs and probably more like millons of installs) Realtek is a very popular device wink

I did try to install the drivers first. That did not work until I reinstalled the Microsoft HD audio thingy drivers with the drivers provided in the hotfix.

I slipstreamed sp3 in to an OEM XP pro sp2 source using nLite (and tweaked it a bit, removing software, disabling services and some drivers)
In nLite, in the drivers pane it is noted that you can safely remove the drivers if you will be using another source to install them. Judging from a previous post from mr_smartepants that will probably be the issue.

I'll try this now.

Would you recommend not disabling any drivers using nLite? (I'd like to keep it as lean as possible)

DriverPacks depends on ALL of the included drivers being present... We don't add the included drivers to the packs. (why would we? they are already there smile).

Also when testing don't screw with the files and services.... Prove the sh*t works first wink. KISS method.

Once you know it works then redo it and hack away at will... then if it fails you know where it went wrong big_smile.

I always use RVM Integrater for SP and patches (OnePiece's are quite nice)
I select my XP source and let RVMI make the copy for me.
the only thing i do with nlite is automate my install...
truthfully i do also use it to disable the language bar and put a My computer shortcut on the desktop.
I NEVER remove anything with nLite... it Always leads to issues... Always

remember onec you add the DriverPacks you will not be able to make any changes to your source.
(make a copy of your source prior to adding DriverPacks... add DriverPacks to the copy big_smile)

No dice...

When I try a fresh install with a sp2 with slipstreamed sp3 (nLite - nothing else changed, tweaked or removed) and latest driverpacks,
I get an error while Windows configures ATI AVIVO Codecs
"Error 1904.Module C:\Program Files\Common Files\ATI technologies\Multimedia\atimpenc.dll failed to register. HRESULT -2147220473"

I think I'm going to continue working on the frankenlited custom driverpack image I had.
I'll reasearch this further later on, this image needs to be finished soon (and lets hope there will be no issues due to nLite, it's for a company wide deployment. Fingers crossed).

Any update on this issue? Sound has rarely ever worked for me, I deal with lots of Soundmax/Realtek installs and its always the same thing, installed in device mgr but "No audio device" is reported by windows.

That more than likely does not apply to this thread.  This thread is for the realtek overlap bug (conflict between driver versions).
There will always be duplicated HWIDs between Soundmax/Realtek but we won't know there's a problem unless you report the HWID of the affected machine.
So create a new thread with the info required from this post.

I slipstreamed sp3 in to an OEM XP pro sp2 source using nLite (and tweaked it a bit, removing software, disabling services and some drivers)
In nLite, in the drivers pane it is noted that you can safely remove the drivers if you will be using another source to install them. Judging from a previous post from mr_smartepants that will probably be the issue.
