Topic: Failed sound driver install Gateway E-4610D

Win XP SP3 VOL
DP Base 8.12.5
Everything but graphics was installed from the CD, the graphics drivers were installed with a stand alone drivers install on a network share.
I verified the MD5 signatures of my driver packs.
Sound A 10.03
Sound B 10.03

Looks like the install was attempted but failed. Incidentally the video doesn't seem to install correctly either.

Re: Failed sound driver install Gateway E-4610D

did you try a reboot and a second pass with SAD?

IE chipset may need to be installed before video... and a reboot may be required after installing chipset.

If i remember correctly you are doing sysprep... this could be the result of not having chipset drivers available to minisetup

Re: Failed sound driver install Gateway E-4610D

I'm not using sysprep. I'm using ryanvm integrator for the addons and n-lite for automated setup. All of the drivers drivers except graphics were installed during the setup (or minisetup as you call it.) When the computer boots up it launches my program that does a bunch of sh*t like installing programs and the last thing it does is launch the video SAD installer on the network share. It reboots after that. There was no reboot before it is launched though. I guess on monday I'll try doing a reboot before I launch the video SAD installer. I suppose I could try it with a vanilla CD as well.

Re: Failed sound driver install Gateway E-4610D

Minisetup is specific to SysPrep. wink

In a normal windows install 'setup' (not minisetup) is run during the Preinstallation Envirionment (PE) phase of setup.
The 1st stage is Textmode,
The 2nd stage - after the first reboot -  is PE (this is where Setup runs),
The 3rd stage - after the second reboot - is the GUI phase of setup.

If you are doing a normal Disc install then all the main packs should be used with DriverPacks BASE to slipstream them, then you will have no problems wink. Since you are doing a normal slipstream a DPs_BASE.log is very helpful. (Help us to help you, Please provide your log wink). It will answer questions like which version of BASE, M1 or M2, which version of the OS and what service pack etc (plus it saves you from having to type it in you post wink).

Please be sure that DriverPacks BASE is the very last step in your process.

if you are using M2 make sure that all the packs are extracted during PE stage of setup (un7zip will pop up and run for several minutes).

So are you saying that I shouldn't be installing the drivers in two steps? I don't really see any other way since the driverpacks alone are the size of a CD. Most of the computers I'm installing this on don't have a DVD drive.

Re: Failed sound driver install Gateway E-4610D

it is preferable to do it all in one step windows setup is better than dpinst. IDK why...

i use an external dvd usb when a pc does not have a dvd or if i am in my office i use RIS... wink

Re: Failed sound driver install Gateway E-4610D

I'm working with old dell GX50s that don't have any kind of USB boot option. RIS isn't an option here unfortunately.

I just tried a reboot before installing the video drivers. That didn't work.

I'm now trying with a vanilla XP CD with everything but the sound and video drivers installed during xp setup. I'm then going to reboot and try running a driver packs installer that has the video and audio drivers.

Re: Failed sound driver install Gateway E-4610D

carry an extra dvd with you and hang it off the machine smile -
It's always a good idea to crack the case when your there to see if the CPU fan or PSU is caked with dust anyway

Re: Failed sound driver install Gateway E-4610D

Yeah that's a good idea I suppose. I guess I should just make a DVD for these gateway computers since they have DVD drives.

The vanilla XP CD didn't work either. I'm about to create a DVD so that will rule out anything I did for sure smile

Just in case here's the setupapi.log from this time:

Re: Failed sound driver install Gateway E-4610D

I didn't have any blank DVDs in the office so I put it on a 2 gig USB drive. I included all of the driverpacks except mass storage. The video seemed to install OK this time, however the sound driver still failed to install correctly. I still find it a bit odd that the video driver won't install from a stand alone driver install though.

Thanks for your help on this! smile

Re: Failed sound driver install Gateway E-4610D

I see anomolies with dpinst.exe from time to time
(dpinst.exe a redistributable file provided by Microsoft is the engine for SAD)
No good reason for them, but they do exist ;P

Re: Failed sound driver install Gateway E-4610D

Well I guess I'll stop using SAD then. If this sound problem ends up getting fixed is there any way I could get access to the beta sound driver pack? I would really appreciate it smile

Thanks for your help on this. This is some great software you provide for free! smile

Re: Failed sound driver install Gateway E-4610D

I'm trying to upload DriverPack Sound B 1004r2 which contains a new IDT audio driver.  But our nightly ftp server is not accepting any logins at the moment.  Muiz sent an email to the server admin to give it a kick!
We're shooting for a 10.05 release for both sound DriverPacks.

Great thanks! Any luck with that FTP server?

Re: Failed sound driver install Gateway E-4610D

Nope.  Still offline for uploads.

Re: Failed sound driver install Gateway E-4610D

I will personally give your FTP server admin a ZJ

Re: Failed sound driver install Gateway E-4610D

I see your news announcement about the server being down is gone. If you ever get it uploaded please let me know smile

Re: Failed sound driver install Gateway E-4610D

Still doesn't work. In the device manager it says this device cannot start (code 10). The driver from windows update and the gateway website both work fine.

Sound A & B 10.06

Re: Failed sound driver install Gateway E-4610D

Any chance of this getting fixed or am I SOL? It installs the IDT sound driver (I think from sound pack B... I'm not even using sound A right now) when it needs to install a sigmatel driver. It wouldn't be a problem but it installs a buggy control panel as well that can't be removed from the control panel.

This would also probably fix the problem with the gateway laptop I've been having.

Re: Failed sound driver install Gateway E-4610D

I'll see what I can do.  Your HWID is supported by DriverPack Sound B \I10\ but it's missing files listed in the .inf so that would probably explain why it's not working properly.
I've restored the missing files, but I doubt that will fix your issue since they're x64 files.
In the meantime...
Does the driver here work?
And can you also test this driver too?
And one more here please.

Re: Failed sound driver install Gateway E-4610D

OK, for some reason they're not allowing deep-linking.
Page is here: http://forums.laptopvideo2go.com/topic/ … t-drivers/
Link is first in list.
The two you tested are old.  The one linked above is newer than all, so it's important to know if it works.
