Topic: Please have more readily available descriptions of the driverpacks

Please have more readily available descriptions of the driverpacks contents. Both in the program and on the site. I go here and just see "graphics A, B, C" all of which have ATI drivers, making it difficult to know offhandedly if I need B and C. Thats just one example.

Ty.

Re: Please have more readily available descriptions of the driverpacks

Well, some DriverPacks are getting too big to have a single pack, so we split them up and use A, B, C (and maybe D?).  For Graphics we tried to divide them by category.
A-ctive (actively developed.  ATI/Nvidia gaming cards)
B-usiness (for workstations.  ATI/Nvidia workstation-class cards, all Intel)
C-atch all (everything else.  rarely updated or derelict drivers.

The sound DriverPacks do not follow the above rule.

Re: Please have more readily available descriptions of the driverpacks

Overflow both A and B have "ATi" listed. without knowing the exact video card you have you have look that up and come to the website to search through it every time. That is hardly ideal when the information could be easily added to the packs themselves/the program. It can be confusing when you're building for a machine you don't know everything about and arent sure if it has a buisiness class video card or an IGP.

Mr smartypants thank you, that helped me a ton in understanding each packs role. If even that was added next to the packs I'm sure plenty of people would be helped. They'd say to themselves "It's a dell workstation...it's a workstation class card, B it is then"

Thanks for the help guys.

Re: Please have more readily available descriptions of the driverpacks

So what?
If you are unsure, just use both or all packs.
That is perfectly fine - you do not have to decide for either A, B or C.

After all, you aren't creating an install source for one specific machine, are you?
Usually, the goal is to make it as universal as possible simply because you never know what kind of HW you will come across next.
Space should not be an issue with DVD-R(W)s readily available everywhere.

I guess it would take more time to find out what card is inside and what packs to use than just to dl them all and slipstream everything...

Re: Please have more readily available descriptions of the driverpacks

Agreed
I just use them all
problem solved

PS the info is added to the packs already... It's contained in the drivers INF files.
translation... its easier to add all the packs than to figure out what you need and create a new disk each time
