Topic: [WHAT TO DO] DP Printer size

Following this post : http://forum.driverpacks.net/viewtopic. … 3593#p3593
and this one : http://forum.driverpacks.net/viewtopic.php?id=587

I've started a DP Printer. Currently, i've added these Canon drivers :

Canon IP5000 (06/30/2004, 1.80.2.90)
Canon IP5200 (07/04/2005, 1.90.2.90)
Canon IP5200R (06/29/2005, 1.90.2.90)
Canon IP6000D (06/30/2004, 1.80.2.90)

Canon IP6600D (07/04/2005, 1.90.2.90)
Canon IP8500 (07/08/2004, 1.80.3.0)
Canon IP90 (11/17/2004, 1.85.2.20)

Canon S750 (09/18/2002, 1.62.2.1)
Canon S900 (09/18/2002, 1.61.2.0)
Canon S9000 (09/18/2002, 1.61.2.0)

Canon drivers are all multilingual & WHQL. Total size is already 587 Mb uncompressed, and 72 Mb 7-zipped.
I've also started collecting Epson drivers (language dependant), and HP ones (150 Mb uncompressed).
Adding more drivers will result with a DP Printer over 700 Mb uncompressed, and 100 Mb 7-zipped.

Question : how to split it ? (even if Bâshrat the Sneaky prefers AIO DP wink )
- by band (bing ones first) ? Canon / HP / Epson / Others
- by type ? Bubblejet / Laserjet / others ?
- modify inf files to remove all other languages than english (losing WHQL ?) in order to reduce size ?

Re: [WHAT TO DO] DP Printer size

What I noticed in the previous printer packs was that all of the setup.exe's and such were still with the pack.
The only files that are required will be listed under the "[SourceDisksFiles]" heading inside the driver inf file. Also the .CAT file needs to be kept for WHQL reasons, but us usually not listed under the above section.

... I took a quick glance at just one of the models, and the un-needed files took up ~1-3Mb per! So, Def. there is some slimming that needs to be done.

I thought so, too, but when I create a printer "pack" for my HP LaserHet 1000 and included only those deemed relevant files it gave me an error asking for one of the EXEs during installation so I had to manually point it to my SMB directory where I luckily still had the4 extracted files.

So I would be careful about that statement.
Maybe I did make a mistake but I actually did look into the INF to find out the dependancys and IIRC there was no EXE listed...

You can, however, drop a lot of other files, in my case and included PDF manual etc.

EDIT: Forgot to mention:
HP does have a sort of AiO driver pack on their site already.
Unfortunately, it includes only PS5 printers (LaserJet), but not my model sad

Can't seem to find the link ATM though...

I have already deleted *.txt, setup.exe and so on ...
Section "[SourceDisksFiles]" in Canon drivers lists many files, including multilangual files ... so reducing driver size can be done ... Do I loose WHQL if I edit inf file and remove all file reference to non-english files ?

Yes that will void WHQL signing.

I've just tested : yes, WHQL is lost.

So, back to the inital question : how to split DP Printer ?
- by brand (bing ones first) ? Canon / HP / Epson / Others
- by type ? Bubblejet / Laserjet / others ?

Re: [WHAT TO DO] DP Printer size

i would split by brand...

Re: [WHAT TO DO] DP Printer size

Maybe, split them by brand and type...
HP - Inkjet
HP - Laserjet
Canon - Inkjet
etc...

Your choise though, because you are tackeling the project wink

This is what I had suggested when the issue was discussed on the old forums as MSFN.  Fencer started the original HPLJ DP and I added a few more printers into it.  It was so long ago that I honestly don't remember how well (or if at all) I went through the .inf files.  When I looked into adding some of the HP ink printers I found that there were hundreds of different models.  There are some models that share drivers with one another, but it will involve going through the drivers manually to check for that.

If the current HPLJ DP is corrupt in some way, I still have a working copy which I use in my installs.

Re: [WHAT TO DO] DP Printer size

OK. So :
Canon - Inkjet
Canon - Laserjet
Epson - Inkjet
Epson - Laserjet
HP - Inkjet
HP - Laserjet
Others - Inkjet
Others - Laserjet
...
(that's what I initially wanted to do smile wink )

I believe the corruption was limited to just the Epson pack
