nice info... thanks for including your hwids...

you were useing 2k3 as your source ( it says in the other forum ) that is good info to include here too. wink

Looks like JakeLD is already aware of it.
Be sure you subscribed to this topic so you can be aware when it is added.
Hopefully you will be able to test it for us...
so we know we added it correctly.

Jaak sais - help us to help you!

have a great day and thanks for reporting

Re: Problem booting a Dell 2950 SAS 6iR

Thank you!
I will be happy to test this for you, but in the mean time, is there a way to manually add the needed drivers to UBCD4win, I have a problem and I need to image the server.

Re: Problem booting a Dell 2950 SAS 6iR

obtain the F6 driver from the OEM and use it wink
(i will be crazy enough to assume you have a floppy)
if not then use the f6 driver to fill in the folder as outlined at the ubcd4win forum...

link to the OEM location of the f6 driver here... as it is the one we will look at to add it properly in mass storage.

no matter which of these three you do you will still need one missing ingredient the 'F6' driver (or sometimes called the textmode driver)

Re: Problem booting a Dell 2950 SAS 6iR

I thought I had gotten this.  I called dell and downloaded the SAS6iR driver, and the NIC driver.  I placed them in the SCSIAdapters\MyDriver\R194052
SCSIAdapters\MyDriver\BDrvInst
I then built the CD, and it still did not boot.

The system hangs right at the start of the white dos progress bar, is it possible this is not a driver issue?  maybe the wrong driver from dell?

Re: Problem booting a Dell 2950 SAS 6iR

i noticed that you had made quite a few adjustments to your build.

perhaps you should run with jsut  a stock build (generic / vanilla / unmodified) with DriverPacks.
failing that disable DriverPacks mass storage and add

SCSIAdapters\MyDriver\txtsetup.oem

the pebuilder is looking for txtsetup.oem and it is looking for the txtsetup.oem that contains

PCI\VEN_1000&DEV_0058&SUBSYS_1F101028
or
PCI\VEN_1000&DEV_0058&CC_0100

if you link to the driver i can be more specific - i may even add it for you wink

Re: Problem booting a Dell 2950 SAS 6iR

R194052 was enough info for me brb

this driver is included with DriverPack MassStorage 8.05 in folder D\M\D2\

It is a much older version than is now available here
http://ftp.dell.com/sas-raid/R194052.EXE

however d2 was updated by L9 in the latest nightly 811r1

http://driverpacks.sytes.net/driverpack … 2_811r1.7z

Try building with that pack and let us know... both 805 and 811r1 should support your hardware.

try to not change a bunch of settings from their defaults in ubcd4win wink

@debugger
value = Parameters\PnpInterface,5,REG_DWORD,1 is in OEM file
wink

Re: Problem booting a Dell 2950 SAS 6iR

I just burned a new UBCD4Win cd, after running driverpacks Base.  In plugin I made sure the Devicepacks.net - Masstorage is enabled.  I removed all entries that were in SCSIAdapters.
I have burned this, and will test it when I can (the server is running backups, may be a day or 2)
What is txtsetup.oem??

so for a straight build with driverpacks;
Download the driverbase, and driverpacks
run driverbase, all packs are greyed out because it sees the mass storage option
it changes the UBCD4Win, i make no changes.
I run ubcd4win, and burn the cd.

I will test this as soon as I can.

Re: Problem booting a Dell 2950 SAS 6iR

OK, my backups completed, and I booted the system with the new disk as described above, no change sad

Re: Problem booting a Dell 2950 SAS 6iR

txtsetup.oem is what you get when you extract R194052.EXE to the SCSIAdapters\MyDriver\ folder...

if you disable mass storage plugin and extract the R194052.EXE to the SCSIAdapters\MyDriver\

you should get  SCSIAdapters\MyDriver\txtsetup.oem and some other files

pebuilder should add that driver only, if DriverPacks mass storage is disabled in plugins.

try that and see it it works...

Basic hardware cause hang too.
Half broken cable can hang too.
Strange partitions, non windows default, can cause hang too.

Press F7 at F6 message to disable ACPI.

Re: Problem booting a Dell 2950 SAS 6iR

An old thread, but I am having the same issue with a Dell T310 and SAS6iR controller.

I have a Bart build using MassStorage pack: DP_MassStorage_wnt5_x86-32_907r2.7z

This build works with a Dell T300, that uses the SAS6iR controller.

The same Bart build loads on a T310 without any mass storage error (there is an error relating to NIC drivers) but no disks connected to the SAS controller are visible.

Having looked for drivers on Dell Support. R194052 is the Dell driver for both the T300 and the T310.

So Dell use the same driver for W2K3 for the SAS controller in these two systems, but the DP_MassStorage pack only works with the T300?

Suggestions?

I can post a HWIDs dump tomorrow if that would help

Thanks,
VW

We LOVE IT when a member uses search! big_smile big_smile big_smile

Whic OS did you use xp or 2k3 which service pack of that OS?

Is the DriverPacks version the same version / provider as you downloaded?

Yes HWIDs are ALWAYS helpful for this type of issue, but let's see how far we can get without them. wink

Which OS did you use xp or 2k3 which service pack of that OS?

XP SP2

Is the DriverPacks version the same version / provider as you downloaded?

Sorry, not sure what you're asking here.

Re: Problem booting a Dell 2950 SAS 6iR

If you give me your HWID I will figure out which driver from the DriverPacks was used and compare it to the version contained in R194052

It is possable that the SAS contoller driver in the packs only supports 2k3 server or does not support your HWID. wink

there are about five critical updates / hotfixes that must be installed in 2k3 or it may fail...

SAS controllers are considered server hardware and may not work at all in xp based PE. wink
- they might, but it is MUCH less likely to work than 2k3 wink and even 2k3 must be patched and those patches may not even be available for xp wink

Let's see if we can figure it out together!

PS did you try removing DriverPacks mass storage and adding your driver manually and then rebuilding with PEBuilder?

Re: Problem booting a Dell 2950 SAS 6iR

OK

Tomorrow I will provide the HWID from the T300 which works and from the T310 which does not.

PS did you try removing DriverPacks mass storage and adding your driver manually and then rebuilding with PEBuilder?

No, but I did try adding the driver from R194052, but it doesn't load - probably because it is a W2K3 driver and I am using an XP based build.

Thanks

Re: Problem booting a Dell 2950 SAS 6iR

The R194052 lsi_sas.sys is a storport.sys child device. 2003 provides storport.sys.
The R194052 driver requires 2003 files.

The new T310 hardware requires a new driver.
The SAS 6iR use a LSI controller. Try a LSI SAS driver at XP files.

There is a updated symmpi.sys 1.30.02.00.
DP_MassStorage_wnt5_x86-32_907r2.7z contain older symmpi.sys versions.
As for testing purposes disable the mass storage plugin and add the LSI driver manually.

Re: Problem booting a Dell 2950 SAS 6iR

Unfortunately that driver does not work.

Re: Problem booting a Dell 2950 SAS 6iR

Well, what about R193679.exe?

However DP_MassStorage_wnt5_x86-32_907r2.7z contain this already.

Yes, I had that idea as well. Dell use this driver on the Precision range.

Unfortunately it does not work either.

I am going to perform a Server 2003 install to verify that the drives are visible when the array is not configured as either striped or mirrored. This is the case with the T300 but I want to confirm that this is also the case with the T310

Re: Problem booting a Dell 2950 SAS 6iR

W2K3 install works with R194052. Can see the single disks. So it's not an array configuration issue, it's a driver issue.

At the BIOS level the controller is reported as SAS1068E-IR, which would suggest that the earlier SAS driver that you recommended ought to work, provided Dell don't have a "custom" version of the controller.

This is a PITA.

I think I will try building Bart with W2K3 instead of XP and try to use the R194052 driver instead.
