Re: [SLVD] Bug HP NC373i & NC373T drivers

That is a perfect post! Well done.

We'll take a look at it... were you able to add it yourself? If so then what driver did you use?

I forgot to mention that the server is a HP Proliant ML350 G5 (Product ID 416894-421).

I didn't try to add drivers myself, but they are available at

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/Te … &idx=2

The bxnd52x.sys file has the same driver name used in Windows Computer Management - NIC properties.

I agree, very reliable and fast (at least for my needs).

Did you see anything wrong in my DPs_BASE.log?

Lan DriverPack 9.09.04 includes both bxnd.inf and bxnd52x.sys files at D\L\B3, but on the bxnd.inf file I can't find nor proper Localizable strings and their HWIDs.
They seem to be included in the downloadable version.

Hope it helps, I'm not very skilled on this.

in UBCD4Win350\plugin\DriverPacks.net\LAN\lan.inf

can you find these lines?

nt5\BXVBD.INF=20,,1
wnt5\BXVBDX.SYS=4,,1

that HWID is actually for a Broadcom NIC... HP had to get it from somewhere wink

And is included in the pack you are using, in folder
DriverPacks\DP_LAN_wnt5_x86-32_90904\D\L\B3\BXVBD.INF

can you verify the md5 sum for that pack is E28C281D8933772E8E3BB9B3C62BF9C5 ?

I suspect that there could also be some missing registry entries that may be required to allow it to work properly.

Sorry for my inexperience:
- where is supposed to be found the DriverPacks\DP_LAN_wnt5_x86-32_90904\D\L\B3\BXVBD.INF file? I simply copied the DP_LAN_wnt5_x86-32_90904.7z pack in my D:\UBCD4Win_3.50\plugin\DriverPacks.net\BASE\DriverPacks folder before BASE configuring and ISO building. Did you mean the \D\L\B3\BXVBD.INF file contained in this .7z pack?

- what is the portion of the HWID string I have to search for in this bxvbd.inf file?
In the DP_LAN_wnt5_x86-32_90904.7z pack version of this file I can find only the generic string

%bcm5708c_desc% = bcm5708c_inst_x86, pci\ven_14e4&dev_164c

while in the downloadable HP version of that file I can find both

%NC373i_desc% = NC373i_inst_x86, pci\ven_14e4&dev_164c&subsys_7038103c

and

%NC373T_desc% = NC373T_inst_x86, pci\ven_14e4&dev_164c&subsys_7037103c

All you need is the generic string...
In device manager go to device properties and select the details tab...
Select "Compatible Ids" from the drop down...
You do see  the generic ID pci\ven_14e4&dev_164c included in the compatable list?
That means the driver does match / is compatable with the device wink

ef wrote:

%NC373T_desc% = NC373T_inst_x86, pci\ven_14e4&dev_164c&subsys_7037103c

That driver is also a match... if you were in windows (which we are not) it would be prefered to the generic match.

I think i need to get one of my buddies from the UBCD4Win team in on this.
I belive we need some registry entries added to your build to make this fly wink

Thanks for the feedback... It makes the plugin(s) better for everyone!!!

PS i was not aware that 2k3 R2 was supported... have you tried a build with just regular 2k3 (or XP)?

Re: [SLVD] Bug HP NC373i & NC373T drivers

For the NC373i the Compatible IDs from Windows Device manager are

B06BDRV\L2ND&PCI_164C14E4&SUBSYS_7038103C
B06BDRV\L2ND&PCI_164C14E4
B06BDRV\L2ND

For the NC373T they are

B06BDRV\L2ND&PCI_164C14E4&SUBSYS_7037103C
B06BDRV\L2ND&PCI_164C14E4
B06BDRV\L2ND

I will also try a regular W2k3 Sp2 build and report to you.

Re: [SLVD] Bug HP NC373i & NC373T drivers

Strange that none of the compatable ids were PCI\VEN_ format...

What about in the Hardware Ids selection?

For my HP NC3163 Fast Ethernet NIC I get

Hardware Ids
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1229&SUBSYS_B1340E11&REV_08
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1229&SUBSYS_B1340E11
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1229&CC_020000
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1229&CC_0200

and

Compatable Ids
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1229&REV_08
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1229
PCI\VEN_8086&CC_020000
PCI\VEN_8086&CC_0200
PCI\VEN_8086
PCI\CC_020000
PCI\CC_0200

but that is on Win2k3 (not r2)

Re: [SLVD] Bug HP NC373i & NC373T drivers

Hi,
Happy New Year.

For the NC373i NIC the Hardware ID from Windows Device manager is

B06BDRV\L2ND&PCI_164C14E4&SUBSYS_7038103C&REV_12

For the NC373T it is

B06BDRV\L2ND&PCI_164C14E4&SUBSYS_7037103C&REV_12

Although most of other servers run R2, this HP one runs a regular (not R2) W2k3 version.
As suggested, I tried also a regular (not R2) W2k3 Sp2 build and the result is the same.

Re: [SLVD] Bug HP NC373i & NC373T drivers

Hi,
is there anything else I could try to fix this?
Do you think that updating bxvbdx.sys and bxvbd.inf files with HP downloaded versions could be OK (I didn't try this)?
It is odd that both NICs' Compatible and HW IDs format (not the usual PCI\VEN_) as reported by Device Manager is different from what is reported by the HWIDs tool.  Does it depend from Broadcom NIC teaming ?

Re: [SLVD] Bug HP NC373i & NC373T drivers

Good thinking two options...

1) replace the driver in the lan pack and use base to create plugin and rebuild...

2) If all the names are the same you could try to cheat and replace the two files in the plugin and build...

It is better for us if you update the pack and use DriverPacks BASE to create a new plugin then build, because it will tell us if adding that driver fixes it for everyone, We like it when we can provide a particular fix to our entire audience... Besides then when we release our next pack it will be included for you. We call that helping us to help you - and we like that a lot!

Jeff

PS please report if you built with R2 or just plain old 2k3 wink

OK Jeff, I will use BASE to create the plugin. Just to be sure, is it correct if first I replace in the latest nightly (9.12.130) lan pack only bxvbdx.sys and bxvbd.inf files in the \D\L\B3 folder, update the .7z file, configure BASE to create the plugin and rebuild?

Glad to be helpful, testing it's the minimum I can do.

Re: [SLVD] Bug HP NC373i & NC373T drivers

I would replace all the files in the \D\L\B3 folder but for this test you really only need those two wink...

Best thing to do is to just update all the files in B3...  effectively updating the driver.
This has the advantage of you being able to use the pack for normal slipstreaming wink.

Ok, I will try replacing all files (I tested replacing only those two using regular w2k3, but it doesn't work, same "Unable to install network adapters" message).

Re: [SLVD] Bug HP NC373i & NC373T drivers

Bad news: even replacing all files I have the same error.
On the UBCD4WIN System event log I have 2 errors (event ID 4 - Source nvgts5 and nvgts6 - No description).
NICs are showed in the UBCD4WIN device manager as System devices with an exclamation mark (The specified device isn't properly configured (code 1).
I don't think so, but do you need HW/compatible IDs as reported by the UBCD4WIN device manager?

Edoardo

Edoardo

Re: [SLVD] Bug HP NC373i & NC373T drivers

yes the hwids reported in device manager in UBCD4Win must appear in the INF we used. (or a compatable ID)

Re: [SLVD] Bug HP NC373i & NC373T drivers

From the UBCD4Win Device Manager

- HW IDs for the HP NC373T NIC are:

PCI\VEN_14E4&DEV_164C&SUBSYS_7037103C&REV_12
PCI\VEN_14E4&DEV_164C&SUBSYS_7037103C
PCI\VEN_14E4&DEV_164C&CC_020000
PCI\VEN_14E4&DEV_164C&CC_0200

- Compatible IDs for the HP NC373T NIC are:

PCI\VEN_14E4&DEV_164C&REV_12
PCI\VEN_14E4&DEV_164C
PCI\VEN_14E4&CC_020000
PCI\VEN_14E4&CC_0200
PCI\VEN_14E4
PCI\CC_020000
PCI\CC_0200

- HW IDs for the HP NC373i NIC are:

PCI\VEN_14E4&DEV_164C&SUBSYS_7038103C&REV_12
PCI\VEN_14E4&DEV_164C&SUBSYS_7038103C
PCI\VEN_14E4&DEV_164C&CC_020000
PCI\VEN_14E4&DEV_164C&CC_0200

- Compatible IDs for the HP NC373i NIC are:

PCI\VEN_14E4&DEV_164C&REV_12
PCI\VEN_14E4&DEV_164C
PCI\VEN_14E4&CC_020000
PCI\VEN_14E4&CC_0200
PCI\VEN_14E4
PCI\CC_020000
PCI\CC_0200

Is it of any relevance that the UBCD4Win Device manager reports IDs in PCI\VEN format, while Windows one reports them in B06BDRV\L2ND format?

Re: [SLVD] Bug HP NC373i & NC373T drivers

Now that is what i expected to see in windows...

PCI\VEN_14E4&DEV_164C&SUBSYS_7038103C is a valid HWID and exists in bxvbd.inf for platform HPQ.ntx86. That means it is for NT5 all versions of 32 bit OSs IE Win2k XP and 2K3. (64 bit versions are specifically excluded.) install requires bxvbdx.sys and bxvbd.inf and it seems as though WdfCoInstaller01007.dll is also required.

try adding the folowing lines to [SourceDisksFiles] in the LAN.inf if they are not already

wnt5\WdfCoInstaller01007.dll=2,,1
wnt5\bxvbd.inf=20,,1
wnt5\bxvbdx.sys=4,,1

and adding the WdfCoInstaller01007.dll to the wnt5 folder if it is not...
and make sure that the bxvbdx.sys and bxvbd.inf files are in the wnt5 folder too wink
Obviously all from the Download you pointed to for me

Just guessing here I have asked two of the UBCD4Win guys to drop by...
I'm sure they will know exactly what to do, but perhaps they want me to figure it out on my own this time wink lol

Highlander999 is working on an update to BartPE that will fix most of the issues with sound video and oddball devices that require advanced PnP support. Most of the issues are related to missing registry entries. It is WAY over my head or I would try and explain it to you so your issue can be solved to wink.
