Topic: SAD disk made with DP_MassStorage_wnt5_x86-32_909r6???

I'm hoping this isn't as dumb a question as I think but I have a Vostro 1520 laptop that I ran a SAD disk to try and update the Intel Matrix Storage drivers but it doesn't update.... will a SAD disk update mass storage drivers?

PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2929&SUBSYS_02BC1028&REV_03\3&11583659&0&FA

        PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2929&CC_010601

    Compatible ID's:

The only dumb question is the one that is never asked...

Yes SAD should update PnP mass storage drivers...
I can imagine there may be some file in use issues happening though...
I wonder if SAD works from safe mode?

I re-ran the SAD in safe mode and yes it does run but no it did not update the drivers... it is still using the 8.6.0.1007 driver...

Re: SAD disk made with DP_MassStorage_wnt5_x86-32_909r6???

your %SystemRoot%\setupapi.log will contain the why...

search it for PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2929...

Since you did not tell us which version of DriverPack MassStorage, I have assumed the latest available
DP_MassStorage_wnt5_x86-32_909r6

Both
/I4/iaAHCI.inf   08/07/2009, 8.9.2.1002 and
/I5/ibexahci.inf 06/04/2009, 7.0.0.1013
contain that driver and both are signed...

What pack version(s) did you use? (Hint: include DPs_BASE.log)

Notice the driver in I5 IS Rejected verses the installed one...

According to that I5 is NOT a better driver for your hardware...

It selected the BEST MATCH for your PC big_smile.

The 'best match' is not always the the 'newest'... OR... Newer is not always better wink.

Testing the theory...

Install the I5 driver manually.
Reboot.
Run SAD.
Reboot.
See if the driver is reverted.
Report.

We blew the system out and started a fresh install but since it has Mass Storage problems we still may be able to work this one out. The new install has errors so here are the logs etc:
http://www.mediafire.com/?sharekey=80f1 … e37b913e74

I will now try to install I5 manually and the the SAD to see what happens and report back.

EDIT:
I extracted the I5 folder and then used Device Manager to update the driver but it doesn't find a driver so now I'm stumped! I just tried the same method for the I4 folder and it didn't work either... what am I doing wrong?

EDIT2:
I just ran the SAD on this system and it did not update either the Mass Storage driver or the IDT HDA Codec... I have included the updated logs etc below:

Re: SAD disk made with DP_MassStorage_wnt5_x86-32_909r6???

Not making any progress here can you point me in a direction?

I tried the whole thing from scratch and yes of course it shows a device Manager error
I deleted the I5 folder and just kept I4 and that showed the same device Manager error
I tried creating a pack entry with the Dell driver and that fails completely and just keeps rebooting
SAD doesn't seem to make any changes for the installs at all

Yes I can supply logs etc but this has me spinning my wheels...

I did... in the other thread... I think the device you are haveing trouble with is not the intel device...
