Topic: [SOLVED] Corrupted downloads

7Zip some files won't extract
Diag Msg # 0 "Can not open file xxx as archive."

I downloaded all the XP and Vista driver packs - twice, once to a WinXP box and again to an Ubtunu box.

Both times I used 7Zip to extract the files.  Both times the same thing happened.

About 1/3 of the files would not extract and gave the error message above.

Has anyone else seem this ?  Is there a work around ?

Thanks,

Re: [SOLVED] Corrupted downloads

which DriverPacks failed, Specificaly. Name/Version...

What was the MD5 hash on your failed file? Does it match the posted one for your download?

What version of 7zip did you use? ... GUI or Command line?

how did you download them (from DriverPacks BASE? or from our home page? or other?)
- perhaps a link to a specific one you are having trouble with
so we can try to duplicate your issue?

Please include GOOD details... "Read BEFORE you post" rule #6 (see my signature for link)

Now I know how my mechanic feels when I call him and say "IDK, it just won't start"

Um we get over a million downloads a week
Yours (this) is the only report of any issue at all...
No there is no workaround - since it is only affecting you... (Alone)
there would have been 10 or more posts in this thread by now if we had a corrupt pack on the server wink
(Since you did not tell us which ones, I am going to assume we are discussing the current main DriverPacks.)

-------

Edit - moved from "FeedBack and support DriverPacks BASE" to "other" since problem is not seemingly related to DriverPacks BASE in any way. sad

Re: [SOLVED] Corrupted downloads

Thanks for the reply.  I agree it must be something on my end . . .  statistically so many successful users - can't be wrong.

I will retry from a different computer (and different Internet connection) paying close attention to the MD5 Hash . . . I must admit I rarely check MD5 b/c I download so much stuff w/o any problem.  But I will retry one of the FAILED packs and check the MD5.

Here are the details:

It happened on both the XP and Vista driver packs.

The XP Drivers were downloaded from here: http://driverpacks.net/driverpacks/latest

The Vista drivers were downloaded from the Forums:  http://forum.driverpacks.net/index.php

They were unZipped using 7Zip (7-Zip 4.65) - GUI

Re: [SOLVED] Corrupted downloads

I was able to verify at least DP_Graphics_A_PhysX_wnt5_x86-32_906.7z
downloads from the  http://driverpacks.net/driverpacks/latest
with a MD5 of 5A9AED435836D0D372C2475B4F6C3BED

and extracts with 7zip 4.32 (GUI) successfully...

perhaps it was just a glitch... waiting for your results from the second machine Internet connection sir...

thanks for the update, now with enough details to try it myself! big_smile

Welcome to DriverPacks
Let me know if I / we can help...

Jeff

PS 7zip can use huge amounts of ram
- how much ram in that first machine.... (swap file size?)
- were you extracting multiple files concurrently?

Re: [SOLVED] Corrupted downloads

Jeff,

That box has 3Gig of RAM.

The files were being extracted one at a time.

I'll have to check on the swap file size.

Re: [SOLVED] Corrupted downloads

with three gig, the swap file should not be a factor wink...

Re: [SOLVED] Corrupted downloads

Ok - I think I'm all set.

Here is what I found - perhaps this will help others.

-------------

I had the same problem downloading using another computer (WinXP) and another Internet connection.

First I downloaded ONE of the Driver Pack Files with which I had had problems.

I extracted fine (note the bad version was much smaller.)

So I launch multiple concurrent downloads - and redownloaded all the driver packs.

Then I had the same problem ! ! !

Ok enough of my soap opera . . . . what I found was if I download each driver pack alone - (ie Wait until that one file download has completed before starting the next driver pack download - THEN it will work.  The driver packs will extract.)

It's the first time I've ever had a problem like this, but wanted to share in case it helps others.

Re: [SOLVED] Corrupted downloads

Simple CDN supplys our downloads...

As far as we know... they just rock! our downloads have peaked out at around 1.5 million a day. We haven't had any new releases in a while so its closer to a million a week now... These guys have the ultimate setup for a Content Delivery Network (CDN) mutliple backbones geographicaly dispersed clustering... etc... It's possable you hooked up with a local server that was having an issue. (local to you) if that is the case your issue should not reappear. And explains why so few people might see it. (Rather than it affecting everyone.) We will leave this thread open and see if anyone else is haveing similar issues.

Again, Welcome and thanks for reporting, it makes you a valued member of our team.

Re: [SOLVED] Corrupted downloads

Hi Jeff,

Thought I had this working . . . . there is only one single file that still won't extract.

Would you mind trying it on your computer ?

It's Vista Audio_x86_907.7z  at http://forum.driverpacks.net/viewtopic.php?id=3341

The reported file size is 77.8MB  - each time I download it (on various machines and OS'es, etc) the file size is approximately 41.6MB.

Re: [SOLVED] Corrupted downloads

Jeff,

. . .  just to clarify, not having this particular driver pack is not that big of a problem for me.  Yes, I am making a disc of all drivers and it would be nice to have this pack too . . .  but I'm not in a bind or anything.

---

My friend in Connecticut also did the download twice, on his openSUSE 11 and MAC systems.

Amazingly it did the same thing !

When the download starts it shows the correct file size ( ~ 77MB) but the the download stops (supposedly successfully - ie no errors) with a file size of ~ 46MB.

His broadband ISP is Cox Cable and mine is Verizon DSL.

I live in a suburb of Wilkes Barre PA.  So I'm not sure if you, I and he are getting this file from the same server or not.

Interesting stuff . . .  let me know if you have any ideas.  I'm willing to tinker and experiment.

Re: [SOLVED] Corrupted downloads

SimpleCDN distributes it's files across multiple servers and selects the closest server to the requesting link.  Odd that traceroute didn't show ANY hops.
It's possible that there's a corrupted file stuck in a proxy cache close to where you are.
