Wow, I didn't know, that there are modem pack and the other.
All, I know are CPU, chipset, graphic, sound, lan, wlan and mass storage.

Will try to use 3rd party driver(bluetooth, modem, smartcard).

Well, I have a P5Q board, but never had the chance to test Bâshrat the Sneaky drivers on it. I have been following this thread for a while, but unfortunately those days (months!) I haven't got the time to test such things. :(

I'd test this for you next summer guys, but by then you'll probably have it out as "stable."

What about me reinstalling Windows with RC sound drivers, testing the motherboard chipset's audio drivers? Thing is, I also have a standalone Creative sound card installed. Usually, before installing Windows, I disable the audio support from the motherboard (in the BIOS) so that in the first place the corresponding drivers won't get installed, and in the second place so that there won't be any conflict with two audio devices installed at the same time.

What do you think, if I let the audio support from the motherboard on and reinstall Windows, wouldn't there be audio conflicts? Or potential slowdowns of my system at startup, since both drivers will get loaded?  Or could those slowdowns be remedied by disabling the unwanted device (i.e. the motherboard audio support) from the device manager afterwards?

Sorry for neglecting this thread.
We added some updated drivers to these DriverPacks so in effect, went back to nightly status.  We are close to public release though.  Just a few nagging bugs to work out.

Well, it's kinda pointless at the moment.  Major changed the folder structure for both sound DriverPacks and the .ini files don't match now.  He's working on fixing them now.

But did you need someone testing the HD audio for the P5Q or have I just hallucinated that? I cannot find this any mention of this anymore...

You should be fine enabling both audio functions.  I never disable my onboard audio and I have a second Asus Xonar PCIexpress card and both install fine side-by-side.  The onboard sound will become the default after install, but that's easily changed after loading the desktop.

Alright. Thanks for the info. I'll wait for Major to finish what he's doing, then I'll test those out.

EDIT: is it just me or the files are bigger than they were last time? (doesn't seem to fit on my CD.)

LOL, yes.  DriverPack Sound A almost doubled in size because of the Creative installers.

most of the high end creative cards (and others too) require that their Setup.exe is run after the basic driver is installed.

If the setup is not run the card will not function or will function in a diminished capacity.

therefore the Full installer must be included in the pack...
These are huge since it is not simply the driver files, but all the control panels and related applications as well.

There is no way around this... It has always been so...
The size of these installers continues to grow with age only making it worse.

? I've personally went a long time without feeling the need for those. Not too convinced the average user really needs those? I would rather include the "extra," often (in my case, always!) unneeded stuff in third-party driverpacks. What do you think?

I suppose it's possible.  Similar to how we split the Graphics Languages off.  It depends on how the .inf structures are built.  If those extra folders are dependencies, then no way.

We probably can not commit sufficient time for that from one of our very few yet fine volunteers wink
It is hard enough to find time just to keep them updated without getting crazy with it

Perhaps you could test it for us... do you have one of the affected cards to test with?

Look at the sound packs INI and try moving a section of it and the split file structure to a 3rd party DriverPack


We would be a lot more likely to move in that direction if we had proof of concept big_smile!

My feeling is creatives drivers will not be very forgiving to being split up... Please prove me wrong wink.

Hmmm. Unfortunately, being a student in a non-computing field would require me to study the internal processes of driverpacks installation before getting things done. My energy being committed in major part to my field of study, I cannot afford such deviations in energy spending, and that, in spite of my interests in the project.

We would basically need somebody else to produce the split. If that ever happens, then I will of course be able to help testing.

With the mainstream being to use a DVD or better installation media, and with broadband speeds being better than ever, the demand for keeping the DriverPacks sizes down is not as great as it was. Five years ago we were very concerned about fitting them onto a 700MB CD. That is just not an issue anymore wink.

We really do like creative thinking like yours though! It makes DriverPacks better for everyone!
