Topic: Error message

I received the following error message when attempting to slipstream drivers to a Win XP Pro install: Failed to CAB compress D:\Downloads\DP Base\tmp\setup.exe to C:\working folder. The only reference I found to CAB was in the method window. Tried it both ways & still received same message. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks

Re: Error message

Try "Method 2", it's much better.
Also, post your DPs_BASE.log.  It'll be more helpful.

Thanks for your reply.

After further reading I saw that Method 2 was the better one to use.

My apologies. What forum should I have posted in?

Re: Error message

LOL the one it is currently in wink (he moved it already) Hee hee he...

the source path looks a little wild... it contains a "." and a " - " it may be a nested quote issue with DriverPacks BASE...

could you try useing a plain path like C:\DPsBASE\ and report if the issue still exists, or not?.

Re: Error message

On access scanning / your antivirus program? (false positive)

C:\XPOEM\I386\SETUP.EX_  is read only?
(this attribute should have been removed by DriverPacks BASE --> 2009-08-17 18:13:57 : <PREP> Removed all attributes from \I386.

Re: Error message

I don't understand the first part of the message. Are you asking me if my antivirus program is returning a false positive? I don't see it if it is, I get no alerts or popups.

All folders are read only, "The Read Only attribute on the folder itself will remain no matter what you do. The good news is that it's a meaningless setting. Nobody but the Microsoft programmers know why all folders have Read Only checked and then Windows proceeds to ignore it. However, the files within the folders will change, it's just the folders that always have the Read Only attribute checked.", this from software tips and tricks.com forum.

Re: Error message

I asked specificaly about setup.ex_ ? is it read only (yes / no)

most AV programs will alert you, so that is probably not it... but checking the Log / quarantine is still a good idea just in case.

since DriverPacks BASE has millions of users and you are the only one with this issue we know that it is something quite specific that you alone are doing that several million other users are not... you have provided no info so far that helps isolate what that may be... but together we will continue to try to narrow it down...

I am really convinced that some AV or SpyWare program is interfering... just a guess

Re: Error message

Sorry, no setup.ex_ does not have the attribute.

Nothing in quarantine or logs to suggest the av program is involved.

I realize that this is a cockpit error, I was hoping someone else might have experienced the same or could ferret out the resolution, since I seem to be unable to do so.

Re: Error message

This is not the first time we have had a cab compression issue... A search of our forum will yield many results for this and similar issues. However as i reviewed them i saw no common denominator... you can look too if you like...

Did you try to redownload DriverPacks BASE... perhaps it is a simple corupt download?

Re: Error message

I re-downloaded  the program, loaded everything new & still same problem.

Re: Error message

It is strange... it cabs all the mass storage drivers NP. It is just setup.exe that is at issue. I can think of no logical reason for this.

hmmm...

Re: Error message

Since everything seems to be Ok until "setup.exe" comes in to the equation, I think I'll try to acquire a new copy of XP & see if it will work. I'll post the results.
