Topic: [BUG] 3Ware Escalade 750x driver - No Windows Text mode setup

I am experiencing issues with the latest (test) DriverPack Mass Storage version 9.07r3 (nightly build).
I always have used nightly builds before in my other systems, with NO issue at all.

But here I have an issue:
1. I have a Windows Disk that runs via the $OEM$ procedure (so in WINNT.SIF there is the option OemInstall=Yes), because I am running .NET Install at that point after reboot of 1st part of Windows Setup., amongst other things as well...
A.k.a. the RUNONCEEX method...
Plus sopme added Post SP3 hotfixes and other AddOns and parts removed that I never use in XP (via nLite)

2. I use DP Base v9.02.01 also from nightly branch

3. When slipstreaming all DriverPacks I want (3rd Party and Sound A, Graphics A, LAN, CPU, Chipset and Mass Storage) all is fine as it seems at first sight, so I thought....:(
BTW all latest Nightly builds...

4. Then when burning the WinXP 32-bit source when finished (after slipstreaming DPacks) When I insert this to the CD-RW drive omy other PC which has the 3Ware Escalade 7506-8 controller inside (running a 5-Disk 2.0TB, RAID 5 array) the PC boots from the CD just fine, but upon Windows setup (text mode) it cannot find any suitable controllers....
This frustrates me a lot, as I just want to be installing to that array and then go on with the rest of windows setup


However with XP source CD with SP3 integrated, i.e. Vanilla SP3 (no nLite done etc...) I can bind in the driver just fine with F6 method, but that is what I do not wish to, because I use RUNONCEEX setup routines, which forces me to use WINNT.SIF.
Manually integrating drivers I need I could do, but that defeats the whole nice feature and purpose of the driverpacks, for which I am very fond of...

Can any one guide my into the right direction?
I am personally thinking it has to do with the DriverPack.ini file for Mass Storage Pack (the 3C part (which reflects the 3Ware Escalade 7xxx/8xxx series))...
I think the skipIfos can be the issue, I think, but I am unfamiliar what it should be etc...
I even tried downloading the lastest driver from 3Ware site which is version 04/08/2008,1.15.00.052

Or do I need to try somethin in TXTSETUP.SIF with this line:

3wDrv100.sys=1,,,,,,4_,4,1,,,1,4

Or do I need to use a different orde of activities with my install XP source?
This is the order I work in currently:
1. Use RVM Integrator to integrate Post-SP3 update Pack
2. Use nLite to integrate other AddOns and remove components & tweaks etc..
3. make manual modifications to WINNT.SIF, etc...
4. DPacks slipstream
5. Burn to CD

Should it be otherwise, perhaps integrate DPacks first hen do the rest?

I've tried this now, and that does not seem to work either... sad
I am at a loss now, why would vanilla SP3 source with floppy F6 method work fine and via DP Mass Storage, it would not...?!?

I am not convinced, but may the nVidia related HWIDs conflict perhaps, maybe disabling them temporarily in BIOS could help and install of off the controller only?
Edit: Tried this, did not seem to solve it...
Found something that might help, boot sequence in my BIOS was Bootable Add-In Cards then the 3Ware Storage Controller (SCSI-0), reversed that, testing now...
No did not seem to have triggered it


What if to include this bit of code?

I will try to make some partitions on the array first, see if that helps (but that was already before, until I decided to start from real scratch again).


I am going to use now the DP Mass Storage as I can find it on the nightly branch, unmodified.
I had it modified to my liking (updated nVidia IDE drivers and also the 3Ware driver updated); now going to use the DP Mass Storage nightly 9.07r3 UNMODIFIED...
Except for that what you've suggested ofcourse

Will now also give it a try on SP3 Vanilla source with just the driverpacks integrated now...

I personally have an idea, could it be some values in WINNT.SIF not being correct?
I am currently investigating if Method 1 of slipstreaming will help a bit, but I doubt it...

I am now cornered as it seems, as I am using the $OEM$ distribution method, which needs the OemPreinstall=Yes setting in WINNT.SIF
But that implies also that F6 method of integrating drivers at text mode setup will be disabled...

There must be a way to solve this is it not?

But the TXTSETUP.OEM method is done away with when using the DP Mass Storage instead, and will also disable F6 method during setup text mode, as described above...
I want to go to a situation that does away with floppy F6 method and as such I don't need the TXTSETUP.OEM method, but if I need to I will have to rethink the whole thing...
I am just so used to using DP Packs now for almost 1+ year now, so reverting back is like old "stone age"...

And what does this line do? What happens if it gets deleted as you suggested?


I am going to test the F6 method now with vanilla SP3 ISO burned to CD-RW now. As you know that is just testing, cos that is NOT how I want to install my Windows
Will let you know what happens...

EDIT:
I can confirm that with SP3 Vanilla ISO it works fine with the F6 method with latest drivers on floppy (driver version 04/08/2008,1.15.00.052).
This line is still in there,on purpose, because I wanted just to test if all goes well.

I am close to using nLite integrating the drivers I need and use the driverpacks next to it, without the Mass Storage one, which is actually the whole main reason I use DriverPacks in general though...
So is there something else I can try?
Did you perhaps look at the WINNT.SIF parts of [Data] and [Unattended] in particular?
Because I feel that I need to change anything there, or is it just fine (although it had worked just like that for my other PC's which I installed)?

I can delete this line from TXTSETUP.OEM on the floppy, but how would that translate to the DriverPack_MassStorage_wnt5_x86-32.ini file?

Or how should I find this in the accompanying oemsetup.inf file as downloaded from http://3ware.com/download/Escalade7000S … in_x86.zip

certain drivers must be initialized first before other dirvers...

that line affects the load order... with DriverPacks that particular line is not addressed...

cdob is trying to establish if a known issue with DriverPacks is related to your issue...
By deleteing that line you are in effect loading the driver the same way that the DriverPacks does...

If cdob is right then we must edit the hive to address your issue wink

Let's not delve into that mire unless we need too... By reporting your result to the simple test we will know if we need to go there... If we do then a more in depth explanation will be provided. If not then don't sweat it since it is an uncommon issue.

Actually in the meantime, what I did was to delete this line on TXTSETUP.OEM on the floppy.
And I also commented out the line below in the accompanying .INF file..

Edit 2: However the install of Windows in Text Mode continues, I seem to fail to create a partition in there, cannot format to NTFS. Does this relate to the line being removed from TXTSETUP:OEM when using F6 method?
Edit 3: That was due to my memory timings being to strict, have set it to Auto now

Yes, this answers the question: does 3wDrv100.sys require PnpInterface? No, PnpInterface is not required. 
There is no need to add PnpInterface to setupreg.hiv, migrate.inf or hivesys.inf.

There has to be another reason. Next suspect is a driver conflict.
Different 3Ware driver may interfere.
Load order maybe importand: first loaded 3wareDrv.SYS may initialize the controller, later loaded 3wDrv100.sys dosn't connect to hardware anymore.

Edit mass storage ini, delete other 3Ware drivers, keep 3wDrv100.sys section [3C].

That was it indeed, a driver conflict somehow, at least with unmodified Mass Storage Pack...
When removing the other 3Ware references in DriverPack Mass Storage directory structure and as well in the mass storage ini file and then slipstream & burn = SUCCESS


Thank you all for this help so far, I am going to do some final testing now here, just for pleasure and out of interest.
I will then use this manual modified Driver Pack now, perhaps changing load order of the 3Ware drivers in there for additional testing, and this is with the latest set of drivers 04/08/2008,1.15.00.052 taken from Direct DL @ 3Ware Homepage

Just to be clear you were able to get it to work with all the drivers in the pack. you jsut changed the load order in the DriverPack MassStorage INI file?

Since you are using all the nightlies anyway you should be able to access and read the changelogs, and be aware of the issues we are trying to address with them... That way you won't be flying blind wink big_smile.

Yes actually that is all I did to reverse the order in the ini file of DP Mass Storage, how easy actually and so much work done in couple of days for s little a thing wink


Additional thing I did was update some nVidia drivers with the latest beta ones (NV123 drivers, testing actually) and ofcourse updated this 3Ware 7xxx/8xxx driver...

This is imple my method of tracking of what I am doing and to help you where I am going so that you can understand where I am going and give additional help / guidance...
I'll do my best to test, although I do not often visit this forum, although having the changelogs is very needed and handy in such sort of things haha wink
I am always glad to help where I can, even ask my colleagues at work they will confirm big_smile
