Topic: Recovery Console and MassStorage Pack

Hi,

yesterday I wanted to use my Recovery Console (installed on my HD), but because of my SATA HD's I can't boot into it. So my question is: How can I enable the textmode drivers also for the Recovery Console on my HD? Thanks a lot ...

Re: Recovery Console and MassStorage Pack

Re: Recovery Console and MassStorage Pack

I'm sure that it is similar to the recovery console or the general texmode support on the installation disc ... Has anyone an idea?

Re: Recovery Console and MassStorage Pack

How did you installed recovery console?
Did installation CD contain MassStorage Driverpacks?

Re: Recovery Console and MassStorage Pack

you might be able to figure out how to launch the recovery partition from a BartPE disk...

or if you use the UBCD4Win cd you may be able to repair the boot tracks and boot.ini

or you may find lilo and have to fix that.

Re: Recovery Console and MassStorage Pack

You can install the recovery console to HD with the command "...\I386\winnt32.exe" /CMDCONS /UNATTENDED.
@OverFlow: I don't understand your answers. I don't want to use the recovery console from CD and I have no problems with boot.ini or the boot records. My problem is that the recovery console on the HD has the "F6 problem". And so I want to know how I can "modify" the installed recovery console for MassStorge support like in textmode.

Re: Recovery Console and MassStorage Pack

i guess i am misunderstanding i belived you were trying to run the recovery procedure

you said "but because of my SATA HD's I can't boot into it"

I naturally assumed your boot tracks were bad???

it now seems to me you are trying to create a recovery partition of your own?
is that correct?

Re: Recovery Console and MassStorage Pack

Creating a Recovery Console CD with sata is indeed possible. You need to use WinBuilder and the nativeEx_BSOR project: http://www.boot-land.net/forums/?showtopic=3720

To get sata drivers into the project, you need to add my DriverPacks-Build_MassStorageDrivers script: http://galapo.boot-land.net/scripts/dri … ers.script

Outputted ISO has Recovery Console with DriverPacks mass storage drivers integrated.

Galapo.

Yes, that's it.
And if you use proper source files, then there are AHCI drivers at Recocery Console too.
Use a installation CD with integrated MassStorage Driverpacks.

Which "F6 problem" do you have? Insert a proper floppy and press F6.

One massstorage solution does edit txtsetup.sif and add driver files. So does driverpacks and Bart.

Which hardware do you use?

@Galapo
OfflineSysprep and fix_hdc could be enhanced: add required drivers only from a offline system.

Hi cdob,

Not quite sure what you mean: did you intend "from an offline system" or "to an offline system"?

Thanks,
Galapo.

Re: Recovery Console and MassStorage Pack

@Galapo
Yes, actual idea was "to an offline system". Thanks for correcting.
Boot regular windows or PE: add driver and settings to \cmdcons.

Hmmm, never thought of doing that. But then, I never really actually use recovery console (I make frequent backups).

Wish I had more time...

Me too.

@McStarfighter
A half manual way, rough idea, not tested:

Create a new driverpack massstorage installation CD.

Backup \cmdcons\txtsetup.sif.
Copy driverpack massstorage txtsetup.sif to \cmdcons\txtsetup.sif.

Open device manager. Remember massstorage controller HardwareID.
Edit \cmdcons\txtsetup.sif:
compare HardwareID at [HardwareIdsDatabase] section
remember used drivers
goto [SCSI.LOAD] section, remove all, but keep required drivers.

Compare [BusExtenders.Load] section too.

Copy new massstorage controller driver to \cmdcons\.

Good luck.

Re: Recovery Console and MassStorage Pack

Thanks cdob...

If cdob says it will work i would take that bet...

I will give it a try next week and report my experiences to the community ...
