Topic: problem with iastor.sys

Hi.
Sorry for my bad englsh.

I searched this forum for "iastor.sys" and it says "Your search returned no hits."...

A friend of mine bought 2 Acer Aspire 5735z laptops.
I have set SATA in Bios on AHCI.
I installed XP SP3 with DP_MassStorage_wnt5_x86-32_901.7z integrated.

But sometimes when is working on them my friend gets this message:

http://img523.imageshack.us/img523/946/problemecalc2.th.jpg

I don't think it's a problem with Sata controller but with the driver.

What can I do...?
Thank you for any help.

Re: problem with iastor.sys

well first off try Googleing irql_not_less_or_equal iastor.sys

Second it may be that the reference driver will not work on that particuar laptop, try the one from the OEM (Acer).

It could also be something besides the iastor driver... something that is crashing that driver...

Apparently lots of dell owners are having that issue too... first time it has been reported here...

That's impossible.  I did the exact same search here and got 2 pages of returns.  You might have misspelled "iastor.sys".

Re: problem with iastor.sys

To OverFlow: I did check Google first but I didn't find anything usefull. And in OEM is the one from Vista not XP. Vista works fine but XP not.
In driverpacks it's the latest driver (8.6.0.1007 from 09/12/2008). All I could find are old drivers: 8.2.0.1001 from 05/07/2008 on acer.com and 8.5.0.1032 from 07/20/2008 on http://komku.blogspot.com/2008/12/acer- … p-and.html

To mr_smartepants: I don't think so. I tried 3 times + another 2 right now. You say that I misspelled "iastor.sys" 5 times...?
I'm using Opera browser but I tried also with Mozilla Firefox - same result.

Re: problem with iastor.sys

It doesn't matter - probably its' temporary...
Regarding the problem with the driver: I still don't know what to do - maybe to try an older one... big_smile

Re: problem with iastor.sys

Many times the recovery / reinstall Disc will have XP drivers on it along with the Vista ones smile

Please verify it is not a conflict with antivirus or firewall software
One of the Google hits indicated possible conflict with a Logitech mouse and some USB keyboards. (Docking station?)
IE try and eliminate possible irritations to the Mass storage driver.
Hint: check device manager for the IRQ List "view Devices by Connection" smile
Who is Sharing the Interrupt with the Mass Controller?
is the machine in APIC mode?

since it seems to be an interrupt conflict the thing that is stomping on the Mass Storage's IRQ is probably as much to blame
as the mass driver.

- its a conflict in the interaction of TWO (or more) hardware devices that are not sharing the same IRQ nicely wink

  - That is why there are so few posts on this,
It is The Unique combo of hardware and settings...
Your specific model of PC, and your specific combo of drivers & other installed software.
and possibly some bad luck when the machine enumerated the IRQs.
      - it may be that forcing the machine to re-enumerate may eliminate the problem too.

Updating the other device(s) that share(s) the IRQ with your Mass Storage driver may also fix your issue
try the actual chipset OEMs Intel Nvidia blah blaa blah... we may be out of date wink

If you post the fix here and it is driver related (probably a driver... but perhaps not Iastor)
we may be able to implement it in a future DriverPacks release wink
(you would of course get full credit wink)

PS (tech / training time is billable wink tongue )
your homework is to report back LOL

Re: problem with iastor.sys

Ok, thank you...

Re: problem with iastor.sys

I've got something going on in this regaurd...

We've got all of our Dell Latitude E6400's BSOD'ing on this driver from the 9.01 MassStorage driver pack, referencing the IASTOR.SYS in the minidumps...

Unable to load image iaStor.sys, Win32 error 0n2
*** WARNING: Unable to verify timestamp for iaStor.sys
*** ERROR: Module load completed but symbols could not be loaded for iaStor.sys

We installed this driver manually and it seems to have fixed the problem.
http://support.dell.com/support/downloa … eid=301466

Will an update be integrated into the MassStorage driverpack, or do I need to find a way to integreate this driver into an OEM that won't conflict with the 9.01 MassStorage pack?

Thanks guys...

P.S. - I'm using these in a sysprep process, not an automated build.
