Topic: Your machine is already using the best device driver.....

Is there a way to set this to always default as "no" so that it never pops up and asks?

I install driver packs post installation off of  a usb drive.

Re: Your machine is already using the best device driver.....

Thanks for the response, but I'm not sure what  you mean.

What I am trying to do is get rid of the message that says "your machine already has the best driver for this device, would you like to replace it?"

I install drivers via usb on quite a few machines, and would really like to have this just default to answer "no" and keep installing drivers.

thanks!

Re: Your machine is already using the best device driver.....

Are you executing the DP_Install_Tool.cmd file or just the DPinst.exe?
I honestly don't understand what the problem is.  You're not explaining what it is you are doing very well.

Please Read Read before you post http://forum.driverpacks.net/viewtopic.php?pid=4#p4

especialy #5 - Can we reproduce your issue based on your description?

what steps would i take to get the exact same error you got.
Do i need a certain kind of hardware to see it? IF so use the HWIDs tool in my signature to provide the HWID.

In Example - I used BASE 8.12.4 with Graphics A 8.12.1 to create a SAD disc selecting M1 and Nvidia control panel OLD. When I attempt to run Dpinst.exe  on a machine with an nvidia 440mx it tells me the driver is FUBAR and then there is a loud popping noise as my monitor bursts into flames. the flames are red and yellow with an occasional hint of blue. I was able to repeat this result with a second monitor. replaceing the videocard also burnt a third monitor but the flames were more of the Blue variety and resulted in a much thinner puddle of goop.

Here is my DriverPacks DPs_BASE.log

Re: Your machine is already using the best device driver.....

I am running DPINST.exe on a variety of machines, and it is not really an error, I would just like to be able to get rid of the message that asks if I would like to keep the existing driver.

What I want is for DPINST.exe to ALWAYS keep the existing driver, and not ask me every time.

Would this be found in DPInst.xml?

<?xml version="1.0" ?>
  <dpinst>
    <search>
      <subDirectory>*</subDirectory>
    </search>
   <scanHardware/>
   <legacyMode/>
   <promptIfDriverIsNotBetter/>
  </dpinst>

What has worked for me so far is to delete <promptIfDriverIsNotBetter/>, DPINST.exe no longer askes me if I want to keep the existing drivers, but now I'm not sure if it is overwriting the drivers anyways, or leaving the one that is already there.

Glad you don't want to know what tonal value the flames are!  big_smile

DPINST.exe 2.0.1.0
No specific machine.
OS: XP, and Vista

Re: Your machine is already using the best device driver.....

so you are runnig dpinst.exe directly and not the DP_Inst_Tool?

Are you even useing DriverPacks... if so are you useing the SAD feature, or are you useing the files from a slipstreamed disc?
if you are useing DriverPacks BASE, then please tell us what version. so we may look at the proper version of DP_Inst_Tool

if you need help then we need details wink
