Topic: [Solved] DP Base 8.05 works / 8.12.x "no files to extract" error

Original Title: DP Base 8.12.1 and 8.12.2

I integrated the updated driver packs following nlite session. I used DP Base 8.12.2 to integrate drivepacks and then burned my windows xp pro setup to an .ISO file using NERO then tested it using VMWare and it worked fine. I then burned the ISO to a DVD and I when I attempt to do an install to a clean hard drive I get the error, "there is nothing to extract" each and everytime. Evidently this DP Base needs fixed or I am doing something wrong. I Integrated the packs using method two, RunOnceEx.

Followup: DP Base 8.05 worked just fine. This further indicates that something is definitely wrong with DP Base 8.12.2

that is not very nice...  and is also wrong... i think it is more likely PEBKAC

if hundreds of people have been using it for months with no reported issues at all it must be specific to something you did

I can't change the truth as I know it. Hundreds of people couldn't have been using 8.12.2 for months as it was released 12/18/2008. I will run a few more tests.

As I said I would run a few more tests. I created an install disk using a Retail version of Windows XP Professional with SP3.  I integrated all of the 10 driverpacks using 8.12.2 DP Base and absolutely nothing else. No MS updates, no addon packs, no modded files, not nothing just driverpacks. I tested it in VMWare after I burnt it on a DVD, worked fine there. I then rebooted my machine and attempted to install it to my D: drive, as my HD has been partitioned; C:\ and D:\ drives. DP Base 8.12.2 DID NOT work there! I keep getting the error "there is nothing to extract". I noticed in VMWare it uses a virtual C:\ drive as default and therefore copies the packs to C:\ before extracting. My point is that it does not do it to any other drive such as D:\ drive. I truly think there is a problem with DPBase 8.12.2 Please don't tell me that people have been using this DPBase for months with no reported issues.

Base extracts to %SystemDrive%  not to  'C:'
- Yes it works on ANY drive letter
If you are installing to a second partition then you need to make sure you have enough space on %systemdrive%
(SystemDrive may or may not be the destination drive letter...)
Can you at least tell us how far into the install you are when this message appears?
Your details are incomplete and unclear regarding the specifics of the error...
(thanks for including your log that answers TONs of questions for us)

furthermore "there is nothing to extract" is not a DriverPacks BASE or 7zip error...
I suggest you try it without DriverPacks to the second partition.
I believe you will find it is related to a svcpack you have added with nLite or other program.
In which case i am looking forward to your apology for your attitude.


and no... this version was released well over a month ago to the testing team...
hundreds of people were testing it for a month before it was even a RC version.
- you are just not on the testing team nor are you able to see that forum.

We get 32,000 downloads a day... so we had 100 people using it about 5 minutes after i announced it.
- you're right, 100 users is way off...
There is probably more like 250,000  (Two hundred and Fifty thousand) users since it has been a week... wink

When an issue is only reported by one person out of hundreds of thousands...
And the testing team had been trying to break it for many weeks before the release...
And the error message does not exist in our code... nor in our extractors code (7zip)...
What would you say?

I have test it in VirtualBox i made a C:\ and D:\ partition and installed Windows XP on D:\ partition no problems.
You could also have a Boot virus that mix the Driver letters up. Test it on a Virtual Machine and install Windows XP on a  D:\ partition.

I don't believe I have a boot virus and I did test it on a virtual machine from a DVD and it does not work. However when I test it on a virtual machine from an ISO file it works.


As for the service pack it is SP3 which was integrated by Microsoft.

I tested this again on drive C:\ from a DVD and still get "NO FILES TO EXTRACT"

There is sufficient space on the system drive. As I quoted to the 'newbie' , tested it on C:\ drive in which case I get the same damn old error "NO FILES TO EXTRACT". FYI I just installed VISTA Ultimate on the same exact C:\ drive. Successfully I might add. As far as I get into the install is up to the driver pack extraction process which occurs after XP finishes copying setup files and reboots to begin install. As the DVD I used for testing only driverpacks integrated with DPBase 8.12.2 I did not integrate anything with nLite or RVM integrator. No modded files no themes no nothing except DRIVER PACKS! I will test this on an entirely different machine.

Ok now i have used my CD-ROM Drive (no ISO file) in VirtualBox and no problems if i install Winodws XP on a D:\ partition.

I just got through testing it on an entirely different PC and it worked. When I'm wrong, I say I'm wrong.
Here is the type of PC I am having trouble installing it on:

Processor:      AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 6400+ 3200 MHz
L2 cache:       1024MB
Memory:        3072 MB (15% used)
Mainboard:     ASUSTek Computer INC. M2N-E
Video card:     NVIDIA GeForce 8500 GT
Hard Drive:     Western Digital  SATA II 500 gig
Any ideas and/or suggestions will be most appreciated. Thanks

Try to delete all partition.
Hard to say what the problem is if it is the PC itself.

I just ran another test using a 20gig EID WD hard drive connected to the PC I am having trouble using the DPBase 8.12.2 on and I'll be damned if it didn't work. Do you suppose it does not like my WD SATA hard drives? Why would it work on an EID and not a SATA hard drive?  This was tested using an install disk using a Retail version of Windows XP Professional with SP3.  I integrated all of the 10 driverpacks using 8.12.2 DP Base and absolutely nothing else. No MS updates, no addon packs, no modded files, not nothing just driverpacks. Did not use RVM integrator or nLite or anything, just DP Base 8.12.2. So any ideas?

Note: One thing I never mentioned is the fact that I have two hard drives in my PC. The main one is a WD SATA II 500 gig with 3 partitions C, D, & E. The second one, the slave , is a WD SATA I 500 GIG, just one partition, F.

Is the ODD sata or ide?

do you have any card readers installed?

It might be a good time to show us the HWIDS, at least from the mass controlers if not all.

I will also admit it if there is a flaw in the program or packs big_smile.
I will also add code to save someone else from your issue, if it is possable

My hard drives are Serial ATA. I tested it on an EID hard drive in two different machines and it worked in both. It just does not work on my Serial ATA hard drives. P.S. They are all Western Digital hard rives. Here is the HWIDS:

I find it strange that DP Base 8.05 works just fine and 8.12.2 doesn't. Makes one take a hard long look at both hardware and software doesn't it?

That scores a hit from PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_037F&CC_0101 in dpms \NVTM\NVATABUSTM.inf but NOT NVRAIDTM.inf
Were you trying those SATA drives in RAID, AHCI, or IDE (compatibility) mode?

RAID has been disabled in my CMOS
When my machine boots up it says searching for IDE drives.....
So it must be

I believe I have provided all of the information I possibly can looking for a solution to my problem.... In the  mean time I will continue usiing DP Base v8.05 as it is a solid version for my needs whereas DP Base v8.12.2 is not. I'll keep checking my post for more info. Thanks.

I never got the answer to the questions,
- "Is your ODD SATA or IDE" (ODD, Optical Disk Drive - Yours is a DVD I believe in this case...)
- nor "do you have any card readers installed" - although the hwids do tell the tale on this one... wink tongue
- You have YET to tell us how far into the install you get.
   We don't even know which stage you are failing at...
   Textmode, WinPE, Gui.
   Or how far into that portion of setup the error occurs.
   Or if the window has a title.

You most certainly did not provide all of the information you possibly can.
You didn't even post all the requested info...
we can not continue without you providing the info we specifically request...
IE the ball is Still in your court, not ours.

i have a thought.... put the SATA 1 HDD and SATA 2 HDD on different controllers and let me know...

are you certain that that "there is nothing to extract" is the EXACT wording of the message and no other clues are offered.

The exact error is "no files to extract".  The window title is un7zip. When I boot up I hit any key to install from CD it then does XP's thing, I choose the drive and then it inspects the drive configuration and commences to copy files needed for setup. When it finishes that it then reboots and starts with the default Windows Xp boot screen, then goes to the Driverpack extraction process and then that is when I get the error "no files to extract", window title un7zip.  It does not extract anything as it cannot find anything.  I tried changing controllers and same thing. Yes it is DVD. I had a thought, is it possible for me to allow you to access my PC remotely via internet? If possible you may be able to gather some needed info.

I have been contemplating my problem by looking at what worked and what didn't work. What worked was installation on a WD 20 GIG EIDE drive. What didn't work was installation on a two part partitioned (C:\ & D:\) WD 500 GIG SATA I drive. Both installations was done on the same PC in question. Why would DP Base 8.12.2 XP setup installation work on an EIDE drive and not a SATA I drive on the same PC? The question is; "To be or not to be." Another question is; "Hardware or software issue?" Can't imagine that being a hardware or PC configuration problem, however I can imagine it being a software configuration problem, simply because DP Base 8.05 works with no problem and DP Base 8.12.2 does not work. I if understand DP setup, the driverpacks are integrated to a folder called OEM in the CDSETUP folder, therefore when it is burnt to a CD or DVD the OEM folder containing the Driverpacks is located in the CD/DVD root. Why would DP Base 8.12.2 see the files in the OEM folder within an ISO setup using VMWare and not on DVD?  The next question is what is written differently in DPBase 8.12.2 than 8.05? Might be worth a look.

ha ha ha did you look at the changelog... wink it is several pages...
thousands of lines of were changed in the code. (needle in a haystack)

I still don't know if your DVD is a SATA device...

here is what intrigues me now that we know it is un7zip complaining.

un7zip is in the same location as the packs... it can find the program but not the packs... hmmm...
let's take a look at presetup.cmd if there is a problem that is DriverPacks related it would have to be in that file.
presetup.cmd is the file that runs during WinPE (the portion of setup you are having trouble with)
and it calls un7zip during WinPE and is the only part of DriverPacks that is active during WinPE phase of the install

if i knw which interface your ODD used it would help me to help you...
IE it is probably IDE or SATA but could be SCSI or USB. just tell me already... hmm
can you describe the the wire that connects your DVD drive to the MB since you don't seem to know what interface it utilizes.
