Topic: breaking KTD device inf path in registery with multiple DP's

Hi,
In my latest 'normal' build I added a few extra 3rd party driverpacks than usual. (w/ full KTD, method 2, Runonce install)
The build was exactly the same as all the others in every other way, that never have had this problem.
USB keys/mice then asking for drivers on plugging in after windows installed.
To cut a long story short, it turned out the %systemroot%\inf was missing from the DevicePath key in the registry. (Problem reproduced on other pc's with this build)
As far as I know the registry key length here isn't the limiting factor, so assume some other limit has been hit, being as extra 3rd party DP's will have increased the amount of data going to this key?
Any ideas? cheers

which 3rd party DriverPack did you include?

was teh device path blank or just missing the inf entry?

Re: breaking KTD device inf path in registery with multiple DP's

Hi Overflow,
I built it about 4 days ago, so had everything at latest release versions on that day.
Latest base, had (all?) the KTD entries but missing the %systemroot%\inf. The path contents began with a ";" as if something was chopped off.
The rest of the hardware had all installed fine on the laptop bar the sound card (Soundmax H......). (and it has all sorts of stuff) making me think it had happened near the end of everything?
Am afraid is at work so cannot look today at what was actually in the path (was a last minute thing fri afternoon)
I think I had 3/4 of the 3rd party DP's, but again without being at work I cant tell you precisely. I definitely didn't have the canon printer ones, nor the webcam, nor scanner, nor tv, nor broadband - but probably everything else.
Thanks

In that case, when you get back, can you also tell us how long the path was?

Re: breaking KTD device inf path in registery with multiple DP's

path length (i think) is 9019 that does not seem like a "round" number (IE 4096 or 8192)

it may be a finisher related bug... i will look at it now...

thanks for your excellent details, as always.

the misc pack should not have text files in the root, unless it is a test pack.
if it is a release then this should be reported in the 3rd party DriverPack forum in the misc thread as a bug. TIA if so.

brb

Wait a minute that is just garbage... that is not valid at all...
let me see your DPsFnshr.ini & DPsFnshr.log , please
if you type set KTD at a CMD window, does it return %SystemRoot%\DriverPacks ?

Re: breaking KTD device inf path in registery with multiple DP's

Hi chud

that post starts half-way Lan (lan\sis) and ends with wan\z4.
it has NO %KTD%\3\

I think the full list would be "at least" twice as long.
(lan is huge and not all of it is seen here.. and DriverPack Graphics A b c mass chips and Third Party DriverPack are not listed.)

Some body will have to look at Third Party DriverPack.
Last time I looked there were some packs with awful long foldernames.

The answer was 42?
Kind regards, Jaak.

Re: breaking KTD device inf path in registery with multiple DP's

well, Some Body has apparently had a look, and has already fixed those.

Thanks.
However, Jeff has a point.
The supported device list and changelogs should not be in root.

The answer was 42?
Kind regards, Jaak.

Re: breaking KTD device inf path in registery with multiple DP's

checked that is the full KTD path string from the reg, I cut and pasted it into notepad (laptop has gone now so i cant look on it anymore)

this is the finisher.ini, appears to be no .log ?

Re: breaking KTD device inf path in registery with multiple DP's

I will look for things that may result in this - the log would have helped

not many people report on KTD and SoFI (the feature previously known as SAD) is going to be making KTD obsolete in the very near future. If it hasn't already.

perhaps someone has time to try to reproduce this issue for me. I will be glad to fix it if it is reproducible
