Topic: [IMP] Backup of log files [APPROVED]

I know this isn't exactly a super critical feature, but backing up the log files does make things easier (in case you forget to rename the log before you open up BASE). What do you think?

Seems like a good Idea.

Anyone have any ideas or input for this feature...

Re: [IMP] Backup of log files [APPROVED]

I will second that.

You might ask the folks at RyanVM how they did it.

When you run the latest it creates a log file in this format: yyyy-mm-dd_HH.MM.SS in the folder from which it's running. Then when you run RyanVM again it moves that log file to a subdirectory: _Log History and creates a new log file for the present iteration of the RyanVM Integrator.

Therfore, all log files are available with the date and time created as part of their name.

Re: [IMP] Backup of log files [APPROVED]

um... or i could just look...
Since i am on the development team there too
I already have the the source for integrator
Siginet is a very good friend of ours.

so it would seem silly to ask for what we already have wink
and even sillier for you to explain how it works to me...
or for you to expain it to any of the other people here who have used it religiously for years.
we are not new to this stuff yet you always talk to us as if we were.
and after having been doing this for forty years myself...
I have developed at least a basic working knowledge.
and all of our team members are seasoned veterans.
This is not noobyville

a simple "i like this idea too. maybe useing dates in the filename, like RVM?"
is polite and well recieved and contains just as much info. plus it is respectful.
IE telling me I should ask to get help to backup a log file is not giving me much credit. (if any at all) wink

Ooo~ a "second"! Looking forward to seeing this feature implemented, OverFlow~ smile

Re: [IMP] Backup of log files [APPROVED]

Too funny wink tongue !

yeah, i dont see this request having a down side and the advantages are obvious.

regarding difficulty, this is not.  but...
1) minimal time for my coding, error trapping, basic testing on all supported platforms
2) and medium level for the testing team
   i give this a medium to high difficulty rateing for feedback because;
it requires manually checking the folders and file names and contents to verify it worked.
normaly this takes weeks  - for a medium-high difficulty task maybe longer...
3) minimal time for RC release and final debug

I am sure this should be a feature - and i think timestamping the filenames is a great idea too... wink
I will credit both of you - excellent feedback on both the idea and suggestion.
