Re: [REQ] 64bit support - No... Not for NT5 based platforms

Yes please!  I thought you guys were going to stay at 32 bit support and I didn't know what I was going to do.**

Has anyone else had probs installing some of the newer audio drivers?  It's murder!  The ones I've come across you have to install in just the right order, beginning with... you guessed right: MICRO$OFT's crap.

Re: [REQ] 64bit support - No... Not for NT5 based platforms

I am also very interested in support for the XP64 driverpack.
When I built my last PC the only way to get XP installed was through integrating the driverpack as it just didn't want to read any drivers from the floppy...
And now I'm planning to use XP64 for my next PC.

Thanks for all great work!!!

Re: [REQ] 64bit support - No... Not for NT5 based platforms

yeah it would be great x64 support for XP and Vista

Re: [REQ] 64bit support - No... Not for NT5 based platforms

Welcome to the forum dutchtraveller and bajargratis

thanks for your interest and taking the time to 'vote'.

Vista will absolutely have 64bit support.

It is only the XP platform we are discussing whether to support in 64 bit or not...

Re: [REQ] 64bit support - No... Not for NT5 based platforms

Yes I would be game for a x64 driverpack.  Where do I donate at?

Re: [REQ] 64bit support - No... Not for NT5 based platforms

Hi
I would gladly put my iban details up.

@ sp2
support for XP 64bit was and is not coded in DriverPacks BASE

XP64, as much as I personaly like it for speed and stability, has not had a great success in real world roll-outs.
(( fora in the world are going to tell you this or that older program is not working in XP64.  This is the harbinger of success.  ))

I am a hard binger.
I got drunk one day, and while drunk tell a guy what I want in vista.
He showed off.
I say, do you dual boot?
in XP, he showed all but not as slick ( he had to use third party)
in X64?
he got stumped after two questions.
OFF we went, to a vista x64 and XP X64.

XP64 was like a missunderstood mistake edition.
V64 is a powerhouse.

The answer was 42?
Kind regards, Jaak.

Re: [REQ] 64bit support - No... Not for NT5 based platforms

at Sp2

there are XP64 driverpacks.
BUT, there is no DriverPacks BASE 64 yet

The answer was 42?
Kind regards, Jaak.

Re: [REQ] 64bit support - No... Not for NT5 based platforms

incidentaly

the DPINST  (and most probably) the SAD function will use extracted third party x64.

SAD could use X64 because it uses Microsoft DPins
(Jeff knows there are X64 version for DPinst, and I cannot code...

Hyper-V and DPinst: workstation control. remote contolled IPX, blocked ICX.

there are some things you do NOT want in disc based rollout. Idngadau.

The answer was 42?
Kind regards, Jaak.

XP x64 thrashes Vista x64 on a lot of fronts.

In fact XP x64 thrashes all other Microsoft Windows OS's overall.

For example - the FPS in games with XP x64 is far higher than in Vista x64.

I wonder why there are no driverpacks, I can understand why there is no BASE - it would need coding etc but with just driverpacks, DPINST.EXE works, you could at least do it that way post install, that is if there were any packs in existence, there arn't, not that I know of, shame because last time I used DPINST.EXE with my own drivers, every single one installed fine - which is more than I can say for the x86 version of DPINST.EXE on x86.

Look at the purple bar, thats XP x64 wink

http://www.imagebam.com/image/9786675364575

Look at the last test, "PassMark" where XP x64 scores 670 (higher than any other Windows OS tested) thats 6% higher than Vista x64 can muster.

Also theres quite a gulf (of +18% in XP x64's favour) on the "Disk Mark" test.

So until Microsoft DO REALLY bring out a faster OS than XP x64, as opposed to a load of propaganda about how Vista x64 "has to be better" yada yada, I won't be "upgrading" to the slower Vista x64 anytime soon - well actually never, because its slower. Why would I change to a slower operating system? Thats just silly.

Theres nothing in Vista for me, otherwise I would have "upgraded" to it ages ago.

Re: [REQ] 64bit support - No... Not for NT5 based platforms

You are correct the x64 version of dpinst is good and can be used with the packs

there are a few x64 drivers that are in the packs (because they are bundled with the 32 bit versions)
you may be surprized if you try it...

There has been a lot more activity in this thread than i would have guessed
... keep voteing and we will see this added.

Re: [REQ] 64bit support - No... Not for NT5 based platforms

Why not juste masstoragepack for X64 ^^

i don't use x64 system but i think it will be good to make masstorage pack, to make others pack, it will take a lot of time and we have some x32 packs not updated over 6 months...

Re: [REQ] 64bit support - No... Not for NT5 based platforms

you mean we have not release in 6 months, there have been many nightlies...
unfortunately they do not make it easy for us to release stable packs... that is not our fault.

x64 mass storage must be written into the base executable itself.
making it a decent amount of work...
(20~30 non paid and unappreciated hours?)
(I say this in direct reference your lack of respect for the team in berateing them about mass storage, sound and the remaining packs which they have been working very hard to get finaled)

----

edit: perhaps this was a language issue...
We have not 'released' any packs
We have 'updated' them all... dozens of times.

----

Thanks for your input and all of your personal contributions to DriverPacks.
you are a valued member and your feedback is important.
have a great day

Jeff

Re: [REQ] 64bit support - No... Not for NT5 based platforms

One more vote in favor of Windows XP x64 Edition !

This OS is a blast! From the looks of it, support for it is growing too. All my hardware has XP64 drivers included separately, even separate from the Vista x64 which used to not always be the case before.

So, are there XP 64bit driverpacks? I'm busy creating a type of Expert No-nonsense Windows XP64 iso, purely based on speed and usefulness.

Welcome to DriverPacks MeOW,

We are so glad you joined and chimed in.

Not yet... but this thread is the key to getting there!

thanks for posting!

Re: [REQ] 64bit support - No... Not for NT5 based platforms

I would only start making 64-bit drivers if Windows 7 Final cames out and in my option it's a waste of time to make Vista Driver Packs.
And if Windows 7 is +/- same as good as Windows XP then i would also stop making driver packs for Windows XP.

This would be the best option to same the Driver Pack Team a lot of time smile

Re: [REQ] 64bit support - No... Not for NT5 based platforms

We won't have to stop making packs...
They will stop releasing updated drivers, and there just won't be anything to do... wink

Vista DriverPacks exist here in this forum already wink (thanks to Muiz and Shahed - well done guys!)

x64 support is still under consideration but it is definitely not a priority.

Well then, there's great help for those in need on these websites:

http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=279273
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=239303
http://www.start64.com

I found that 99.9% of hardware vendors offer Windows XP 64 bit drivers now. Don't worry too much. Even DirectX 10 works these days: http://www.ryanvm.net/forum/viewtopic.php?p=88406#88406

Good luck!
