Topic: Drivers do not work still?!

I am using Nlite created the cd with the SP3 and specs that i wanted
I want to use driverpacks with it i have tried to install it in many ways
- Before using Nlite
- After doing the nlite before making the iso
I then use virtualbox to open up the iso and do an installation every time i have not been able to get the drivers up and running
I have used pretty close to every setting in driverpacks but stuck with the same nlite settings and no extra drivers in there and only the SP3 with no added hotfixes

Thanks so much in advance for the help.

Re: Drivers do not work still?!

Hello! Glad to help but... you gave almost no useful details to go on.

well you don't need any drivers in a virtual machine... so of course none are installed.
that sounds like its working perfect. no drivers needed none installed ???

if you need help then we need the minimum details

the info needed is outlined in "read before you post" in my signature.

Re: Drivers do not work still?!

My apologies... well in the virtualbox there seems to be drivers that come up as unknown and i did read that you didnt need drivers in the virtual machine which makes sense so i then burned it to a dvd had no problem booting it up and installing xp i guess if you could just run through the process with details that would be great or just correct what i did wrong when i ran through the process... i'll use my most recent try

Used a filesync program to sync xp into a folder on C
Opened xp folder with nlite
Checked all tasks...... do i need to uncheck drivers?
Integrated SP3
Used no hotfixes for now
No differences in components
Changed unattended a bit
No option changes
No tweaks
Did the process with no errors
Then went to driverpacks 7.05.2 which i have every driver 7zip file for
Opened up xp folder
Selected all driverpacks
Have used both slipstream methods (different try's)
I like the RunOnceEx finisher so i'm using that
Then normal settings for the rest
and everything is up-to-date

hopefully this helps i just noticed maybe its because i had the driver option checked and put that in there?

thanks again in advance for the help i tried to include everything i could find from your Read Before You Post

Re: Drivers do not work still?!

Oh and when i did install it on an xp laptop the drivers did not show up forgot to mention that

thanks,
Chetta

Re: Drivers do not work still?!

Hi
how long did your DriverPacks slipstream take?
I read you also tried method 1? how long did that take?

The answer was 42?
Kind regards, Jaak.

What drivers exactly didn't install?

Also, you don't need the Drivers option in nLite if you are going to use the driver packs. When you slip the drivers in with DP Base, make sure you don't  have the finisher method set to custom, otherwise you will have to manually start the finisher, I normally use GUIRunOnce and that makes an entry in WINNT.SIF at the very bottom that launches the finisher. Also, if you are using Method 2, you should see the drivers extracting before the Windows GUI mode setup begins.

This is from the last try i had
i know the time on the driver install was less than 10 min. but do not recall the exact time (i believe that was for both methods)
and i thought i mentioned it was DriverPacks BASE 7.05.2... maybe i forgot wnt5_x86-32_disc?

I installed all the drivers listed above... guess the log does help lol
also i did notice when i ran VirtualBox in method 2 of the driver install it did show 10 drivers being unpacked but of course no drivers are needed in VirtualBox

Sorry about confusion thanks again for help

Re: Drivers do not work still?!

according to your log you never hit the <<slipstream>> button

you checked for updates and closed it.

you must hit slipstream after you make your selections.

Re: Drivers do not work still?!

which is why I asked what I asked.. I suspected he had not slipstreamed DriverPacks.

The answer was 42?

Re: Drivers do not work still?!

i checked for updates then hit slipstream i'm positive on that maybe on the previous time i was looking through the driverpacks and just checking for an option i couldve missed should i recreate the cd then send you the log if it happens again? or any other ideas?

Re: Drivers do not work still?!

well luckily disregard this message... in Nlite you need to uncheck the drivers option and it will work
unfortunately it did not have all the drivers on the packs but i'm sure with updates and looking up how to make my own packs i will get through that

thanks again for help

As I said above wink
Anyways... make sure you are Integrating the Driver Packs with DPBase AFTER Nlite!
Also, if there any main system devices that are not found on the current packs please let us know, otherwise if it is a non-critical component (ex: modem, webcam, etc.) check out the 3rd Party Driver Packs Thread on this Forum for those driver packs.

...and BTW, Welcome to driverpacks!

Re: Drivers do not work still?!

Why all DriverPack Graphics not supporting somewhere such popular videocard S3 Virge DX, and all S3 Virge family?
Is it possible to add their supporting to DriverPack Graphics?

Re: Drivers do not work still?!

The short answer is no this is not possable.

Details...
well those cards were popular - 13 years ago when they were released in 1995...

they should be supported natively by windows 95 / 98.

from the S3 support page...

ViRGE (325) Drivers
ViRGE Graphics Drivers (DeviceID 5631)
Part Numbers
86C325 ViRGE (5631)

END OF SUPPORT ANNOUNCEMENT
S3 Graphics will no longer provide drivers for new operating systems or any other support for these devices.
The drivers provided below are the latest versions and will not be updated.
http://www.s3graphics.com/en/resources/ … rchive.jsp

windows ME and NT4 were the last OS supported by the manufaturer,
thier most recent driver is dated may of 1999...

It is now ten years past the time for you to get a new video card wink

Since drivers are not available from an OEM source it is unlikely they will ever be included.
They have a very limited amount of ram, and The ViRGE was also unpopular for its lack of OpenGL support,
they really are not any good for use with modern NT OS's

so not possable and not desirable either.

Re: Drivers do not work still?!

judging from the age of these devices..I would have thought that these would have been in the drivers cab that came with XP (could be wrong)... by chance, you didn't choose to remove drivers with nLite did you?

Re: Drivers do not work still?!

Hi,
when you dive into nLite and look at driver removal, you see it will offer you the option to remove S3 driver.
So, you better NOT do that.
DriverPack Graphics B also has S3 drivers and I figure that together it is is the most complete set for NT you can find.

The answer was 42?
Kind regards, Jaak.

Re: Drivers do not work still?!

and you could buy a ten pack of better graphics cards on ebay for $5
