Topic: Why 7zip?

Well I have not tested yet to see if f6 floppy/sata goes away, but it seems pretty slick.
Could not fit gfxA on the full CD and maybe try dumping some of the many unneeded ones.
But I was wondering why a third party utility is added and used (7zip), when M$ cab utility is already on cd and from what I could find with search recommended for driver only disk.

Re: Why 7zip?

cab compressed the drivers take up 500meg 7zipped they take up 300 meg

most people trim fat from the OS to make the small amount of room needed...

or use a dvd...

Re: Why 7zip?

Not only is it free (which is great already), but also open source, meaning you could even change it to your own personal needs (not sure if this is how the progress bar was implemented or whether that uses an already existing API).

Also, IMO, every system should get 7-Zip installed as the default packer/unpacker utility (this is not done by the DriverPacks, btw).
It simply beats the living cr*p out of WinZip and is better than WinRAR, too (did we mention it's free and OSS? wink).
