Topic: PROB: Dell computers

The driver packs haven't worked for the past two dell computers I've installed. The integration goes fine as well as the actual installation of windows, but most of the drivers are not installed. The two models I've worked on are the Optiplex GX620 and a XPS M1710 Notebook. For the Optiplex, no drivers were installed. For the Notebook,  all of the drivers were installed except for the LAN driver, chipset driver (SM bus) and any other uncommon notebook drivers.

The driver packs I integrated are:
Sound pack B
Graphics Packs A and B
LAN pack
Chipset pack
MassStorage pack

Re: PROB: Dell computers

I deploy the GX520, which is exactly the same as the GX620 minus the trusted platform module. They are both based on the Intel 945G chipset. The intel integrated graphics, even the latest driver, is not *exactly* the same as the OEM supplied by dell. The intel driver will work, but msupdate will tell you that a Dell driver is available. The sound driver will only work with Dell's driver. The LAN will work fine with the latest Broadcom driver. Chipset and mass storage should not be an issue.

I ended up making a custom driver pack for the GX520s so the Dell branded graphics and sound will install.

Re: PROB: Dell computers

I will look into this, but if you can post direct download links, then I will handle it sooner.

Nope nothing installs for me...i get the yellow exclamation marks everywhere. I have ? marks for: SM bus, Ethernet controller, and Audio controller. The display adapter is listed twice and has exclamation marks. Under device status it says: reinstall driver.

The display adapter even had "disabled" itself when i checked device manager. It was still working obviously...there was just an option to enable it for some reason.

I will post download links for all the drivers I had to download hopefully sometime today.

Re: PROB: Dell computers

The O2 Micro and the Ricoh drivers are both in the unofficial DP Misc.  I've been installing quite a few Dell laptops lately and it finds these devices.  Quite a while ago there was some discussion regarding the inclusion of such drivers within DP Chipset.

@Bashrat, I don't know what your thoughts are these days regarding such a move - to include quasi-chipset type drivers with DP Chipset.

Re: PROB: Dell computers

@RogueSpear: They belong in a DriverPack Input, not in a Chipset one. I just need the time to create an automated driver update finder and then any desired DriverPack will be created. Now I'm doing it all manually and that just takes too much time.

@Nautical: The input controllers (keyboard, mice, touchpads), smartcard controllers and card readers are not supported by any of the DriverPacks. The other ones should have been installed though. And perhaps that chipset is only supported in the latest chipset drivers: DriverPack Chipset has just been updated. The other devices may need updated DriverPacks too. You can speed up the development of the DriverPacks by making a donation, by the way wink (you're using the DriverPacks for professional goals anyway).

Re: PROB: Dell computers

I having a problem in driver installation i have buy 96  pcs lot  for my new office but i having a problem to install there some sound and VGA dirver in Vista. Please tell me any driver website if you now please email me.

Re: PROB: Dell computers

Umm, you do realize the DriverPacks are just for XP x86-32 and not for Vista, right?

If the systems (I presume pre-assmebled and all the same model) came with Vista installed, I'd talk to the manufacturer for a solution to this problem.
It's his duty to supply any drivers for the OS and the HW he delivers...

Otherwise, you could switch to XP and use the DriverPacks on those machines, that is, if you have some 96 XP licences left wink
(you can also get a "downgrade" from Vista licences at MS!)
