There is no slipstream version of SP1

Not true.
You can download the SP1-integrated ISO from MSDN or TechNet accounts for OEM users (not retail).
Unfortunately, I don't have either. sad

You can also make your own integrated ISO using the tute over at winbeta.org.  Helmi did it (I think)

Helmi did say that he did it, and he said it was torture compared to other OS's...

Re: Vista driverpacks and slipstreamer

That is NOT a slipstreamable SP1 !! but a complete DVD with SP1 integrated, and only english.

What you mean is Vista SP1 Reverse Integration :

Works fine, i did this myself, but you have to sysprep.

First post updated !!

Isn't Vista supposed to be a true multi-language OS?
In that case, you'd only have to add your own language's pack (which you can get at MS) and add it to the source (with vLite, for instance).

I do think, though, that language packs are only for Business Edition with VLK and Ultimate.
Plus, MS pulled the packs for the time being, because they are supposed to not be SP1-compatible... (or so I've read).

Re: Vista driverpacks and slipstreamer

So Vista is still a huge mess... typical for MS OS release.

i remember when they released 2000
and they did so with Sixty Four THOUSAND [64,000] KNOWN bugs
(plus the ones reported after release)

It is amazing Linux or someone like Sun/Solaris has not simply crushed them.

at some point their enemies will band together and make it happen. It's just a matter of them achieving critical mass.
Mac, Novel, Netscape, Citrix and a slew of others who have been victimized over the years.
if MS can't buy them they create a substitute and include it for free.
A slow and painful death for the competition and no viable recourse, at the very least it's heartless, at most it's evil.
I believe lack of third party software support for alternate Os's has been a stumbling block.
more and more software providers are now writing their apps for Linux / Mac (OS 10 is Linux based, and was written on an i386 PC)
I also believe that novel has jumped on the Linux bandwagon too.

They have a total lack of respect for, their users, the software providers that depend on them, and their competition.
I am a firm believer in what goes around comes around... it will happen in our lifetime.

Unfortunately there is no viable substitute to offer my clients, at least not today...
PS i still think Vista is destined to end up next to ME in the history books and I sincerely hope that 2009 brings happiness to all.

Vista SP1 runs very good, this is absolutely not a new ME

Re: Vista driverpacks and slipstreamer

can i assume you have at least 2 gig of ram?
i have low latency (cas2) ddr 400 and it's still expensive.
so i have to buy a new machine and get at least two gig of ram? it's a pig.

but fear not, I am a man of my word. Vista support is in the works.

Yep , you need better hardware for Vista.

And now someone who kan make the driverpack better.

Re: Vista driverpacks and slipstreamer

I didn't know of the info in this thread was still current

Re: Vista driverpacks and slipstreamer

The Tool works fine smile

Re: Vista driverpacks and slipstreamer

Hi
for SP1 you need WAIK 1.1.

it is more advanced than waik 1.0
This should contain a powershell "compliant" tool which can export the unattended.xml for you.
(and you will need an xml for each OS, not just ultimate... You can actually also configure the unattended.xml so it looks for the images and files on a deployment server.)

@ OverFlow; There is a bit of good news.
Vista drivers should work for server 2008, and the WAIK 1.1 can handle 2008 just fine.
The server manager tool in 2008 and powershell/waik tools work seamlessly together.
I will soon start toying with things like this and the presentations I saw at techdays will be of help.

The answer was 42?
Kind regards, Jaak.

Re: Vista driverpacks and slipstreamer

Muiz i don't think we are communicating well.

I thought the idea was for me to add the required code to base ?

I had not planned to add the tool to the base code...
so that means i will have to start from scratch with no documetation.

so i guess you are not in a hurry for this and your not intending to help?

Re: Vista driverpacks and slipstreamer

Hi,

A driverpacks for Vista (>NT6) would be welcome.

There are a few discussions on boot land regarding the lack of drivers and need for a good method to include them on WinPE 2.x boot disks.

http://www.boot-land.net/forums/index.p … topic=4150

We can also help with testing and providing feedback regarding how it works under VistaPE/WinPE

smile

Re: Vista driverpacks and slipstreamer

well everyone has been after me to get on this - and i am ready, willing and ATM have the time.
i was hoping someone would toss me a bone... i guess a "messy" pack is kind of a bone.

perhaps reinventing the wheel has the advantage of possibly not heading down the wrong road to start with.

Re: Vista driverpacks and slipstreamer

These are good news!

So what should the first step be to start working on this? smile

Re: Vista driverpacks and slipstreamer

i have gone to MS and gotten the WAIK and documentations
step 1 - i will be reading them tonight.

step 1.1  polishing some rough edges on base rc3 so i have clean code to start on vista.
(if xp sp3 goes live i will offer rc3 on the news page for a few days or a week
and if it fairs as well as its predicessors publish it officialy)

step 2 if jaak is correct it will take me a month of evenings to code.
too bad i need to make adjustments for the different versions of vista or it would be quicker.

step 3 and possably the stopper. we need testers...
XP users outnumber vista users at least a 1000:1
We have about ten testers for XP
applying what we know i will have .01 (or less) people to test vista packs.
it will be tough to maintain our quality control when our vista testing team is a severed left foot. wink big_smile tongue

Re: Vista driverpacks and slipstreamer

Count with me as beta tester for Vista experiences and I know a few more good people who are available to do heavy testings and report back their experiences.

The Vista Install DVD already comes with a very significant repository of drivers and they are separate in two components.

- The drivers that are included inside Windows PE 2.x

- The drivers inside the windows folder meant to be used by the installed windows.

WinPE 2.x will surely need support for LAN/WIFI and Mass Storage drivers as newer hardware will likely require drivers not included by default on the DVD files.

Re: Vista driverpacks and slipstreamer

well i was thinking of you more as a severed right hand wink ... but i accept.

Re: Vista driverpacks and slipstreamer

I'd be happy to become just another beta tester but if you need additional hands to work on this goal then it would be honor to be your right hand! smile
