Topic: How to add drivers from retail XP CD to MicroXP CD?

Hello from Maine,

I injected MicroXP 0.6b with Bashrat's driverpacks

I installed that MicroXP 0.6b onto an old P2

It did not have the driver for "ATI rage pro turbo AGP"

I could not find that driver, for XP, anywhere

I suspect this is because that driver is already integrated in retail XP

To verify this I installed Windows XP home with driverpacks onto that P2 and the driver was present...

I need to know the location of the drivers on the retail XP CD so I can place them onto the MicroXP CD

Thank you :)
Craig

P.S Bashrat is a hero for making these driverpacks! For years I had to hunt down drivers, it sucked! Now I don't have to :)

Thank you Bashrat!!!

Welcome to DriverPacks.net

use the search feature of explorer (advanced) to search the i386 folder for *.inf files that contain your HWID.
also search DRVINDEX.INF and layout.inf for rage

Re: How to add drivers from retail XP CD to MicroXP CD?

Thank you for the reply,

So I just copy *.inf, from the retail XP CD, to the same folder on the MicroXP CD? And that's it? Or will I need more files?

There were 16 .inf files on the retail CD in the i386 folder, and 12 .inf files on the MicroXP CD in it's i386 folder.

Thank you,
Craig

Re: How to add drivers from retail XP CD to MicroXP CD?

Hey I think I found the problem! There is a file called "driver.cab" on retail CD that is 73.1 MB but that file on MicroXP is only 11.7 MB.

I will copy the drvindex.inf and driver.cab file from retail CD to MicroXP CD, then save it, inject it with driverpacks, and see how it goes. Thanks for the tips smile

Cheers,
Craig

Re: How to add drivers from retail XP CD to MicroXP CD?

Hi,
a couple days ago I was looking at a fresh install of XP, and see the driver folder in there with a 70 plus MB driver cabinet.

I assume MiniXP is something like an Nlited install CD, heavily pruned of all sorts of things, including native drivers.
DriverPacks does not remove native drivers.
For Mass Storage, we have a list of drivers, and if we need one to be replaced, we write that is has to be in the INI.
(for Mass storage, and other drivers, we use INI files to handle "exceptions".)

The answer was 42?
Kind regards, Jaak.

Re: How to add drivers from retail XP CD to MicroXP CD?

Thank you for the info

I know that driverpacks does not include, nor remove, native drivers.

It's true, the MicroXP is sans native drivers - but that is insane because you can't download those drivers! No one hosts drivers that are native to XP.

I really can't understand why the author would release MicroXP without native drivers, unless it is very common knowledge to get those drivers...

Have fun smile
Craig

Re: How to add drivers from retail XP CD to MicroXP CD?

OK, I tried repeatedly to add the retail driver.cab into microXP, it was not going to work.

Finally I tried to add the driver.cab from TinyXP and it did work. So to answer my original question :

How to take the native drivers from TinyXP and put them into MicroXP

1. Extract MicroXP
2. Extract TinyXP
3. Copy, from TinyXP, drvindex.inf and driver.cab to MicroXP (overwriting)
4. Inject Bashrat's driverpacks into (now modified) MicroXP directory
5. open original MicroXP ISO
6. replace ISO's files with the (now modified) MicroXP files
7. Save new "MicroXP_v0.6b with driverpacks and TinyXP drivers" ISO

I used winRAR and MagicISO for the above tasks

TinyXP's driver.cab is small, 19MB, but bigger than MicroXP's... I don't recall having any "native driver" trouble with TinyXP except in "VirtualPC"...

Thank you all for the tips smile

Cheers,
Craig

check this out it is a detailed explanation of how to integrate drivers to XP

We do replace outdated drivers in the I386 folder Jaak has informed you well read the mass storage INF file (in the pack)
