My Question... What is it?
Bâshrat the Sneaky said it sounds like a custom chip or something...
If i know what it is... I can possibly re-write a driver to force compatibility. Anyone have any incite?

Re: [SOLVED] Dell Dimension 8100 "Unsupported Device"

Hm... answered my own question....
Apparently it is a "Metolious Vendor-Defined Sensor" ....and what that is I dont know.
I found the driver by searching DriverGuide, but I had to tell XP to use the specific driver.

Could this be added to the Chipset pack? or should it be a 3rd Party Pack?

Re: [SOLVED] Dell Dimension 8100 "Unsupported Device"

It would be added to Driverpack Chipset.

Found n interesting link. It appears now that it is a special button to contact Dell's e-Support through the touch of a buton on the Dimension 8100. I never heard of such a thing...

Adding support for it is pretty useless since there's no support for these machines anymore anyway (they date back to 2001, afaik Dell's maximum support is 3 years?). And even if there's support, I doubt many people would use it. I think more people would prefer to have it DISABLED. So if you agree with me, then I'll add this as an exception to the DPsFnshr.ini so that this device will simply be removed from the system (and hence you will no longer see the not-yet-installed device in Device Manager).

Re: [SOLVED] Dell Dimension 8100 "Unsupported Device"

I can't say for certain as I've never used that particular model, but I think some vendors are making the chassis intrusion hardware into an actual device.  I've mainly seen this with rack mount servers where it hooks into SNMP for notification purposes.

Sounds fine to me smile
I just hate the little Yellow things in the device manager wink
