Topic: LAN drivers for XP network installation

Hi,

I try to make my XP installations over networkboot (PXE), because the booting is much
faster like from CD/DVD...

The XP setup starts fine an then i becam this error:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/247983/en

The networkcard is not supportet form windows, same problem as many mass storage drivers when
not included in the textmode...

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/246184/EN-US/

How can i bind the lan drivers in the textmode automaticly like mass storage?

Regards
Jackson

Re: LAN drivers for XP network installation

Take a look at Autoimage by roguespear. his app works with DriverPacks BASE to create RIS images.

another option is to make sure to add the full set of DriverPacks is copied and installed with your pxe image.

see here for an idea  http://forum.driverpacks.net/viewtopic.php?id=4808

you just need to make sure the OEM folder is copied to $win_nt$.~ls (it should be automagically copied)

Re: LAN drivers for XP network installation

Sounds interesting, but I have no presetup.cmd in my i386 folder on my xp dvd.

Where can i get the file?

Will the presetup.cmd starts automaticly by installation?

Re: LAN drivers for XP network installation

tutorial on how to add driverpack in my signature...

presetup is added when you use DriverPacks BASE to slipstream DriverPacks into your source

Re: LAN drivers for XP network installation

I've read your tut but i don't understand all and have a few questions:

At the past a used the DP's to integrate all drivers without (WLAN, Graphics C and 3party) in my XP-DVD
with method 1 with massstorage text mode ON and KTD OFF. That's works fine for me...

So what i have to change to make the RIS-Install possible?

Change slipstream method from method 1 to method 2?
Method to start the finisher: GUIrunOnce ?
Change KTD from OFF to ?
QSC enable?

Jackson

Re: LAN drivers for XP network installation

method 2 .. M1 has been considered retired for years

finisher .. your choice
KTD off
QSC on

Re: LAN drivers for XP network installation

Hi,

I have make the changes and modefied the presetup.cmd, but installation will not work.

I became the same error like before:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/247983/en

You said: you just need to make sure the OEM folder is copied to $win_nt$.~ls (it should be automagically copied)

but how to make it possible if you have an SATA-Controller that's not supported before the driver in textmode loaded?

Re: LAN drivers for XP network installation

Another question, is there a USB NIC Adapter with bootrom there is recognized in bios and work with standard XP LAN-Drivers?

Re: LAN drivers for XP network installation

if you selected mass storage text mode then it should be supported for text mode... big_smile
In other words RIS is text mode

usb nic support with native windows ... "not"

Re: LAN drivers for XP network installation

I have select mass starage text mode, but the error came befor the drivers are loaded.

When XP runs form network the error cames long before "Press F6 for mass storage..."
