Topic: [HELP REQ] Toshiba Satellite M205-S4804

Hi, just new here. smile I recently got a semi-old Toshiba Satellite M205-S4804 laptop from my aunt, It has very bad installation problems. So I want to format it but the laptop itself has very limited options that I can tweak, THE DVD-RAM that came with it has limited reading capabilities. It doesn't read CDs if its a backup of a software, usually its easy to format but the laptop don't read the xp on boot so I went to try that Install XP from USB - WinSetupFromUsb. ^ ^ It went well and was able to on USB until I got on the "select the drive or partition etc. you want to format" but the drives don't show only the boot USB flash drive. I asked about it and I was told that

"your hard disk is not shown because you don't have the appropriate SATA drivers. Quickest way is to integrate Bâshrat the Sneaky mass storage drivers pack in your XP source, or simply disable AHCI(SATA) in your BIOS.".

I tried that disable part on BIOS but there's no option of any kind about the drives at all. D: So I searched about that driverpacks then landed here. I also searched the toshiba site but most of their drivers are all for vista. ;/ BTW, this laptop don't have floppy drives as well. sad

I would just like to ask few questions:
- Anyone here with the same laptop, problem and tried installing XP Professional on it? Any links? smile

- Is it because of my dvd-ram is semi defective that It can't read or I just need a driver on it?

- Just in case I need to update what driver should I look for? Don't know if its chipset or under here.

- Is this the right thread to ask about this? ^ ^

Things I got while searching about this.
RVM Integrator
I have a copy of Microsoft XP Professional with SP3. Not sure if its integrated or slipstreamed. or is the same? hehe

*sorry for bad english, not my main language. ^ ^

Re: [HELP REQ] Toshiba Satellite M205-S4804

I am unfamiliar with that method...

However the answer seems obvious to me... They want you to add the DriverPacks to your source.

Tutorial in my signature... please read it, and apply it to your source... test and report...

It looks as though you just did not use a DriverPacks slipstreamed source to start with...
I think if you do add DriverPacks to your source then your problems are solved!

This is as good a place to ask as any... since it is not a supported method of using DriverPacks smile tongue wink lol

Welcome to DriverPacks,
We will be glad to help you with anything within the scope of what we support.
(IE slipstreaming the drivers into your source)

Re: [HELP REQ] Toshiba Satellite M205-S4804

Thanks. smile

and yes that HWIDs is for the current laptop setting Im using that I can't format. ^ ^ I just tried to show it so maybe you can check which part is the problem and needs an update. smile Btw, is there a way to use HWID to my current project that i haven't applied?

I have very limited sources atm, and I'm in the middle of nowhere, here in my grandparents. I only have a spare of 2 cdrs, 1 flash drive and usb slots and internet. ^ ^

Re: [HELP REQ] Toshiba Satellite M205-S4804

A HWID is unique to each / any PnP devices firmware (in theory).
The OS uses the hwid reported by a device to match a driver for it (drivers 101).

it includes VENdor and DEVice info
- from your HWIDS
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2448&SUBSYS_00000000&REV_F3\3&B1BFB68&0&F0 : Intel(R) 82801 PCI Bridge - 2448

VENdor  8086 = Intel
DEVice  2448 =  82801 PCI Bridge

device reports PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2448 to the OS (Win XP for example).
XP then finds that an 'Intel 82801 PCI Bridge' driver also contains that HWID too, and then uses it for that device.

- it is helpful if a driver is not found or if a wrong driver is applied or for simply identifying a particular device.

Since you have added no drivers yet... it is not (yet) relevant info

But it was nice to see that you made an effort to provide good details, I like that!
