Topic: Intel ICH10 Problem - Asus P5Q-SE - Latest Driverpack MS 905r2...

Hi. I'm having a problem getting an intel P5Q-SE (intel ich10) to install using the latest driverpacks, including 905r2 for Mass Storage. All i can get is a 0x0000007B error, bsod. Unaccessible boot device i think it is..

Is ich10 supposed to be supported ? I've tried from a clean source, then nlite with only the Bootable Iso, Unattended and options selected.

I've only got 4 options in bios for the sata controller;

1 - Enhanced - IDE
2 - Enhanced - EHCI
3 - Compatible - IDE
4 - Compatible - EHCI

The 4 of them give a BSOD. I've got only a WD drive connected to it in Sata, dvd-rom is PATA. No other devices there other than a video card.

Am i doing something wrong, is ICH10 supposed to be supported ? If anyone has any clue for me, getting out of hair. Thanks !!!!

Are you installing Win 2000?, XP?, Win 2003... What service pack of that OS?
  which version of DriverPacks BASE did you use?
    Did you use nlite, or RVM integrator?
      What is the HWID for your controller?
         Where is your DPs_BASE.log? (which would have answered most of the above questions.)

You provided almost none. the only three useful facts in your entire post could be summed up in four words

'ICH10 stop 7b 905r2'   

Only two of those four words even appear in your title sad
you also did not indicate if you used mass 9.01 which would be nice to know...
since you are not on the testing team 905r2 is technically not supported for you...
   unless someone on the team specifically asks you to test it wink.

Hi there. Sorry for the lack of details, will try to get this straight now.

Os is windows xp with sp3, sp3 is not slipstreamed it's an original image.

I used nlite. I don't know the HWID of the controller, i can't run any os on the box right now !

The dp base version is 9.02.0.1.

LOL, not even Linux?
When you use the older dp, don't forget to move the newer DriverPacks out of the folder or DriverPacks BASE will select the newest one automatically.

Hehe, well i havent tried linux. I meant i couldn't install any XP version i had. So, anything seems bad with what i was using ? smile

Well the only reason I ask is to eliminate a possible hardware failure.  wink
If NOTHING works, chances are something blew on your motherboard.
Otherwise, it's software.

Another attempt, i've tried 9.01 mass storage, directly into an original xp pro sp3 image, selecting text mode and mass storage, with just bootable iso into nlite... Still bsod.

Am i the only one that can't get ICH10 to work with driverpacks, or it works usually ? Thanks.

Follow up... I was able to run SaveHWIDs by running a live XP distro (that one booted right away...)

From searching in DriverPack_MassStorage_wnt5_x86-32.ini in 8.05 and 9.01, it seems that :

PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_3A20&SUBSYS_82D41043&REV_00\3&11583659&0&FA: IDE Controller
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_3A26&SUBSYS_82D41043&REV_00\3&11583659&0&FD: IDE Controller

Those 2 aren't supported or included in either of the 2. Is that a new HWID for the ICH10 ? Thanks..

the driver is included... In [I5] folder D\M\I5\
ichaide.inf

This controller emulates a standard IDE controller and should require no driver at all to load.
the ichaide.inf file is a dummy installer that just assigns a custom name to a standard IDE controller driver.
(please look at the inf)

Can you tell us what happens if you include no driverpacks and or no driverpacks and f6...
What mode is the controller in (AHCI ect...)?

PS if you have removed drivers with nLite or other program then your install will fail... since it uses included window drivers wink

Overflow, yeah i finally figured that it was included in that file.

The controller is in Enhanced - IDE mode.

EDIT : I had one ORIGINAL SP2 cd, i've tried with this one, and it gives the 'No hard disk detected' error, but no BSOD with it.

What does that mean ?

Overflow, hehe ok. I must be stupid; i tried even using the utils on the original CD from asus P5Q-SE mobo, none of them will work from a floppy using the f6 method. Kinda weird if you ask me..

the f6 drivers from the MB included drivers Disc did not work???... i suspect hardware issues now...

please verify connections and related hardware... 
(replace cables, swap power connectors, inspect Capacitors for leakage)
reset BIOS defaults (pull battery if possable).
make sure you have the most current bios release.

Well the drivers on the original cd are included on for Raid and AHCI. There is nothing on there for plain Sata/IDE on the sata ports.

It says, RAID is only for P5Q-SE/R and the other folder is for AHCI.

That's why like you said, being set as 'IDE' in the bios, it should work out of the box with a windows cd... I will try each ports 1 by 1 now to see if i get diff behavior.

I might have to RMA the board. What a headache...

mr_s or I can do it but it takes time away from graphics packs and base code when / if we do wink

the issue is this driver should load teh standard IDE driver from mshdc.in_ based on compatable HWID 'PCI\CC_0101'

Hi cdob. Well, the dvd-rom is connected to the only IDE port on the mobo. Which is the marvell ide controller, as you say. Now, that means a workaround would be using a sata dvd-rom drive ?

So if i understand, the problem is that the driver being loaded for the marvell IDE is the same as the onboard sata, so both being loaded leads on a conflict and BSOD ?

I will try with a sata dvd-rom now to see what it does. Be back in 20 smile
